I remember those days. I was watching him on the sideline warming up against the Cards, thinking to myself, never thought I would see the day when Cunningham was starting for the Cowboys.
I know that's the last person I ever thought would be a cowboy starting quarterback. An eagle reject. Actually he was pretty good with the Eagles

Prescott is never going to sit out. And it doesn't hurt them to pay him now it doesn't hurt them to pay him later. So why do you want to put it off. You must not trust in him like I do and that's the bottom line that's the truth

It actually can hurt them if they give him a big contract now.

What happens if they pay him $34MM a year staring this year and he goes out and plays like an average QB or the version we saw in 2017?

Suddenly your franchise is staring at the possibility of having an average QB making an elite QB contract. That's not wise. Note, I am not saying that would happen, just saying it could be a possibility and by waiting on signing him and seeing him play under Moore for a year, you can limit the downside risk (granted it could cost you more, which I am OK with).

But the Cowboys don't have to let that happen because they have options now. They have the leverage. They could try to sign him for a deal they like now and if Dak wants more, tell him to play out 2019 under his rookie deal and then they'll talk in 2020. And if that goes nowhere, they can simply tag him.

Yeah, he had some talent the NFL had never really seen, at the time.

Average Quarterback I guess you haven't been paying attention the team was in turmoil in 2017. And he bounced back take us to the playoffs someone's not trusting in Prescott. Glad you're not the guy making the final decision on him. Because the kid is an absolute winner. Yep I'm paying him. I like him better than Wentz equal to Jared Goff. They're both learning to read defenses and I think Prescott has a step up on him. When the helmet microphone turned off after 15 seconds when the play clock starts Jared Goff was horrible didn't know what to do

Look, you have sound intelligent reasoning. The only difference is I trust in the quarterback it seems more than you do. Be good be safe I'm out

The only problem I have with using that logic is that you then have to apply it to every team. Dak had the better team around him in 2016 than Wentz did, so do we then upgrade his QB rating?

I'm a numbers guy, so I go by the numbers as they are not as they ideally could be because what-ifs can be made to work favorably for any player. The actual numbers as far as QBR and QB rating go are better for Wentz in 2017 and 2018. That's simply why I believe Dak shouldn't get a higher contract.

If I'm looking at it as a negotiator, I would say Wentz got $32 million per year because his rating has been better than 100 the past two years and is on the rise. Dak, you had a great rookie year, but your overall QB rating has been average the past two years, not cracking 100. I think the other arguments Dak has in his favor are why he'll end up getting about the same amount as Wentz.

This is a peer comparison, and Dak compares well with Wentz, which is why I don't believe he'll be paid less. I don't believe he'll be paid more because of those statistical areas that favor Wentz. This should be a very simple concept to see because of the numbers that are there, but some are apparently blinded to it. Or maybe I'm just not explaining it well.

(Not saying that's you ... just basing it on some of the responses earlier in this thread.)

I was specifically talking about Dak in that post. Nothing to do with Wentz.

Well I can appreciate your view, but there are always detractors against the current starting quarterback, I remember years ago some fans wanting the Cowboys to stick with Morton instead of Staubach, for various reasons - he's too green, he runs too much, it's a veteran team and we need to stick with the more seasoned quarterback, etc. Some fans aren't satisfied with anything less than the top player at a position. (Not saying that's you)

But I don't agree that we're not going to learn anything new about Dak, I was never a fan of Wade Wilson or Scott Linehan, in my opinion neither was good enough at their position. Don't really know about Moore and Kitna, just think trying something new is way past due.

Though I do think this is the year Dak has to show improvement, barring tons of offensive player injuries/missed games, if he stays the same, then it's time to look at plan B...

I understand. But if the Cowboys pay him now, there is no plan B.

LMAO. It has FINALLY been done. A Dak-all thread. Even the mods have gotten sick with all the Dak threads, most of them just contract speculation.

You’re obviously wrong, this is not a “Dak-all” it’s an ‘all-Dak’ thread :muttley:

I'm not here to debate whether or not he deserves the $, I think he should be paid very well, but I also think QB's need to wise up if they want to win rings. Teams can't afford to pay them such large portions of their budgets and still contend for very long.

Considering the igglets over paid Carson and did it a year earlier than necessary, indicates to me that they did so deliberately to hamper our negotiations with Dak. They know we were trying to get a fair, but team friendly deal done so that we could continue to sign good FA's and push for a ring. If Dak gets that kind of $, most of that stops and we will lose some of our good players as well.

Why would anybody put in the effort to "figure" anything you post? That requires some amount of time and how could that possibly be worth the effort? I just think you are reading too much into the value of your posts there guy. IDK.
You do know, they make a pill for that chip you carry around on your smallish shoulder? And glasses should help improve what little command you have of reading written language, just sayn :)

Are you having a tiff? It seems like you're having a tiff.
Well, that is what happens Corso, when you lay around all day in your depends and haven't been changed, tend to get a little smirkie, pissy and yes throw tiff's or as I call them tantrums, you know like a 2 year old.:muttley:
