Rico keeps improving every year. No need to get rid of him just now. He's a 6'6", 280 pound and athletical TE who is improving with his blocking, route running and pass catching and is still under contract this year very cheap. Might as well see if he keeps improving in training camp and preseason. If he shows progress, might as well keep him on the roster and use him. If he doesn't improve, cut him.
Improving every year? Where?

since he'll be suspended, he gives us an additional week or two to decide what to do about our te situation. still looks like a long shot to even make the team.

The greatest TE on earth never to play a game for the Cowboys.

We don't need players like that. We got rid of the last one, Mr Nameless

bye bye Rico. All the best Suave!
Gathers is better than Witten right now. Please prove me wrong.

Everyone acts like we took this huge gamble on Rico. He was a 6th round pick, the 217th pick overall. Very low success rates with 6th round picks.

I'm personally a fan of looking outside the normal avenues of talent identification to try to find a player, especially when there is minimal risk associated with it.

This franchise took an injured FCS safety in the 4th round and many here here applauded the move, despite him being injured his entire NFL "career" and never contributing a thing to the Cowboys. Many still defend the selection to this day. But taking an Uber-athletic 6'6" 280-pound Gathers was stupid?

Gathers being suspended the 1st game buys the team time no?

He will be on the suspended list for Week 1 and the team won't have to account for him on the 53 until Week 2, long after the mad dash of cut day transactions. If the Cowboys are content with the roster, specifically at the TE position, they can just move on. A 6th round pick who didn't make it to his 3rd year on his original team. Happens all the time.

He gets better every year? He can't beat out Dalton Schultz for playing time. Time to cut bait.

Dalton was drafted higher and played TE in high school and college. Even then, Rico has size and potential to keep improving. This training camp and preseason will tell a lot.

This will be his 4th off-season. We had no one at TE last year, and he only got 3 receptions and couldn't get on the field.

Rico was a project from the beginning. We all want every player we draft to work out but that will never happen. Will Clay is right most of the time on players other than QBs (which he admits he didn't see Dak being as good as he is) so Ill take most of the time and we can bring in a QB guru when Dak retires to help McClay out.

We give McClay far too much credit. It's the scouts that do the grunt work. They pass on to our director of college scouting, Lional Vital who organizes in a spread sheet and passes on to his boss McClay. Truly a team effort by the entire scouting staff and McClay is not a scout. He is a great evaluator of talent at the team and other teams level. Has made some great decisions on players to bring in as FA for depth and fresh legs keep practices fresh
