BTW, Gil is battling dementia if he truly believes this is the 2nd most talented roster in the league. That is laughable.
I don’t think it is laughable at all. Our problem is coaching, not player talent. Hopefully, Moore will be a huge upgrade at OC and take advantage of our talent on Offense.

This is the second reporter to name the Cowboys and Eagles as the top two teams in the league - Jay Glazer did also. He has one going 13-3 and the other 12-4.

This is going to be a wild year.

Love the zone.. story says Dallas is number 2 mostly everyone seems to agree.. when free agency starts everyone is bashing the staff for not going on a free agent signing spree

I respect Gil Brandt as one of the game's best talent evaluators, but dude suffers from severe homerism from time to time.

I'd say we are between 4-7 in terms of talent.

No question the roster is strong.

The problem is at head coach. He is the limiting factor.

One thing I do not see during the games broadcasts.
Garrett on the sidelines talking to the assistants, going off the sidelines to talk to player groups.

That core includes several who are considered among the best at their respective positions, like quarterback Carson Wentz

I don't recall anyone claiming Putz is a Top 5 QB , even when healthy , which he never seems to be...................

I wouls take the Browns over us. I think we're closer to middle of the pack were far from elite at the QB position which is by far the most important.

You would be wrong. Dak has beaten or outperformed in NFL contests several HOF QB's:

Rodgers
Roethlisberger
Brees
Wilson
Eli(?)

And several others QB's with higher draft status or receive more passer plaudits, or say- "media" love than himself.

Wentz
Cousins
Flacco
Smith
etc.

As for the rest of the roster- this team is as deep and talented as any in the NFL. So QB being elite or not still, the slack you perceive is picked up elsewhere clearly.

And we are indeed improved moving into 2019 kickoff.

Top 3 from the article, Let's Go!!!

3) Chicago Bears
Don't let the drama at kicker distract you. When your biggest problem is at that position, you know you've got a solid team on your hands. GM Ryan Pace has shown he's not afraid to make bold moves, orchestrating trades to land QB Mitchell Trubisky in the 2017 NFL Draftand pass rusher Khalil Mack last September. Not too long ago, it felt like Chicago's roster was littered with first-round busts. Now, it feels like it's bursting with first-round starters, like Trubisky, cornerback Kyle Fuller, right guard Kyle Long and linebackers Leonard Floyd and Roquan Smith, peppered with mid-round steals like running back Tarik Cohen and safety Eddie Jackson. The state of the Bears' talent base also shows how far Pace has come since the first phase of his tenure in Chicago, when he was working with then-head coach John Fox. That era was marked with forgettable acquisitions like Pernell McPhee, Antrel Rolle and Eddie Royal. Since Pace's first year, the Bears have fared much better, adding players like defensive tackle Akiem Hicks, right tackle Bobby Massie and cornerback Prince Amukamara. Either Pace has learned well, or new coach Matt Nagy has the players playing the way Pace visualized.

2) Dallas Cowboys
The Cowboys' personnel department -- fronted by Stephen Jones and Will McClay -- should take a bow for building the foundation of a strong roster through the draft, headlined by running back Ezekiel Elliott, left tackle Tyron Smith, right guard Zack Martin, quarterback Dak Prescott, defensive end DeMarcus Lawrence, linebackers Leighton Vander Esch and Jaylon Smith and cornerback Byron Jones, among others. They've also made crucial additions in the past eight months, trading for players like receiver Amari Cooper in October and defensive end Robert Quinn in March and signing players like receiver Randall Cobb and safety George Iloka. Now, the question is, how will Dallas sort out the extensions due to Elliott, Prescott and Cooper? The Cowboys already solved one part of the puzzle by inking Lawrence to a new deal in April, and I can see them working something out with Prescott before camp.

1) Philadelphia Eagles
What puts the Eagles in the top spot isn't just the roster assembled by GM Howie Roseman -- it's the fact that so much core talent is locked into contracts through at least 2021. That core includes several who are considered among the best at their respective positions, like quarterback Carson Wentz (signed through 2024), defensive tackle Fletcher Cox (2022), tight end Zach Ertz (2021) and center Jason Kelce(2021). The Eagles are also at the point where the NFL draft can be used to build for the future rather than being relied upon as a source of players who can provide an immediate impact. For example, Philly was able to snag offensive tackle prospect Andre Dillard, who can essentially redshirt for a year while being groomed to replace Jason Peters next season, in this year's draft.

With the exception of the Bears who might possibly have the best defense in this group, the rest all have some of the top QB’s in the league. Well, except one other team. If we had any of those other QB’s we’d be a favorite for the Super Bowl.

That's because that would be looked at as "In game adjustments". Listen, just try harder, focus and beat the man in front of you!

Dak > Wentz, so no way Eagles should be #1. Not sure if we are #2, but no way are we below the Eagles.

If anything at least tied. Can't deny the Eagles do have some talent, but are they really that much more talented than Dallas.
NO, they are not.

But who cares, it is just another persons opinion and means nothing. We will see on the field.
Now coaching, yeah, they are better than Dallas as many say, who knows, but yet we still beat them on the field.

I think Trubisky will improve. Will he become a top QB, he may need a few years, but he will improve, as we all think or hope Dak will.

But yes their D will be tough and better.

Philly didn't do anything to improve their secondary which Dak and Coop torched last season. As talented as that front seven supposed to be. Dallas has never lost to this team as long as Zeke is in the lineup.
yup... as much as i wanna celebrate gil and dal being #2, philly isn't a top 5 roster so it kinda discredits things for me.
wayyy too top heavy in philly and the contracts are largely bad. zero depth anywhere really.
issues they faced last year that led to falling to 9 wins are even more pronounced now that they lack a back up QB behind an injury prone starter.
drafting has been just short of awful largely because they've given up draft capital for the now.
cap situation is arguably worst in the league.

I’d honestly put our coaching at 20

Only reason I don’t drop it between 25-29 is because Garrett can motivate better than anyone not named belichek

Dude hasn’t lost the team yet
defensively this is a top 10 staff, maybe even top 5.
offensively 25 or so is fair until kellen proves something.
jason is top 10 as a ceo head coach, just drops if he has to call plays or design offense.

Trubisky has more upside than Dak IMO.

Take away Daks intangible assets and we’re left with an average to below average passer at best. And that’s with a stud supporting cast.

Yeah, that Lombardi says otherwise.

Hell, if the past counts, the 5 Lombardi's the Cowboys have trump that.

I know - that's not exactly apples to apples given that that the Cowboys Lombardi's are so far in the past, but a 2 year old Lombardi doesn't exactly mean a team is better than the team that beat them one year ago. It's a new season each year, and you can't rest on your Lombardi's - as Cowboy fans know better than most.

I love Gil Brandt, but he fails to consider the fact that the Eagles lost their two best pass rushers in Michael Bennett and Chris Long. The dropoff is substantial.

Agree Trubisky has more upside. But disagree on Dak being average to below average passer. With his completion %, lads, TD to INT ratio, that is above average. Not to mention 32-16. You say it is a stud supporting cast, but he does have to direct the offense on the field. Don't take that away from him.

I am still not a huge Dak fan, though I see the good in him as a leader and a winner, but I don't hate the guy either. I will see how he improves this year, if he improves. Which is why I really hope they wait a year for that contract extension. But if it happens this year, so be it. I will root for him because he is our QB, just as I did not like Quincy or Chad or any of those guys at QB, but I rooted for them.

Im a critic of Dak much like other aspects on the Cowboys. I call out the issues that concern me. I’m just not sold he’s a prolific passer which provides us a weapon. Instead we must overcome him. All you need is to look at him without Cooper and or Elliott to see what we have.
