The debate over who was responsible for bringing him here, JJ or JJ is ridiculous!!! The Florida scout at the time was responsible. He convinced both not to listen to that to small crap. Convinced he had the heart and desire of work horse. Don't know who that scout was but I would shake his hand today.

E was game ready from draft day, 31 teams poor judgement our benefit

Nobody dominated his position like Larry Allen did. He is probably the only Cowboy that I can think of that is the best to ever play his position. Of course, OL will not be considered, so I say Roger, but I have no argument against Emmitt.

the greatest player in cowboys history is roger Staubach he along with landry and brandt made the cowboys what they are today
It's certainly not just ONE position that makes a team. Sure those QB's were great back in the day. But how great would they of been playing by themselves?! The Cowboys had/have great players in ALL positions. It's impossible to pick just one player and say he was the greatest.

Agree. Allen ruled at that position.

When I heard Strahan (I think it was him) say that Giants players would feign injury or illness not to play against Larry Allen.
When John Randle said Larry Allen was the only person he knew not to trash talk as not to get him riled up.
That's all you need to know about Larry Allen.

P.S. Emmitt wouldn't have been here had it not been for the supplemental draft pick of Steve Walsh and the Bengals rejecting the Cowboys trade offer and taking James Francis (Baylor linebacker) for themselves.

Jimmy also wanted to draft LB Lamar Lathon, but the Oilers drafted him before he could work a trade there too, or maybe he came of the board, as Jimmy was hoping he would drop.

I remember reading that Jimmy said since Francis and Lathon was gone, he said, oh well we need a RB, so let's get Emmitt. So traded up with the Steelers to draft him. Or else the Giants may have. Who took Rodney Hampton right after Emmitt was taken.

I think the Falcons wanted Emmitt too because they took Steve Broussard right after the Packers took Darrell Thompson, so, obviously, there was a run on running backs. Emmitt wouldn't have lasted to the 21st pick.

its easy to say Emmitt because he was the NFL all time leading rusher and not to take nything away from him he was great but I think you can exchange the name Emmitt and throw in others becuse Emmitt ran behind the greatest line in NFL history IMO.

Ill say Lilly or Allen.

Does it matter who brought Emmitt to Dallas? No doubt multiple people had significant input. Just be happy he came to Dallas and helped the team win 3 SBs.

A little off topic for this thread.
Dallas is the only team with 2 RB's in the all time top 10, Emmitt and Tony D.
I don't even think a team has 2 RB's in the top 20. Maybe you can consider Dickerson and Faulk and Jackson with the Rams having 3 in the top 20 at 9, 12, 18. But Dickerson and Faulk careers both were mostly split with the Colts and the Rams.

Zeke is at #201 and with 1500 yards, will move to #106. But there are 5 active players ahead of him.
Gurley, Newton, by 800 yards, Chris Ivory, but is he on a team this year?, Bell and Doug Martin.
Zeke needs 1755 yards to crack the top 100 with this 5 in front of him.

exactly, & by his position you mean wherever he lined up, right? During his career he lined up at every position other than center at least for some duration.
In my opinion the most dominant player in league history or at the very least in the debate of the small group who could claim such a title. You just run outta words trying to describe how impressive this man was.

22 is my favorite Cowboy too. But to be fair only 16 teams passed on him. I think my top 5 faves would be Smith, Staubach, Manster, Too Tall and the most underrated guy IMO #79 Big E.
He would have been a Hall of Famer if not for the accident. :(
