Hit a receiver in stride from 5 to 60 yards more than 20% of the time. Throw a receiver open. Read a defense pre snap. Lose the happy feet in the pocket. Correct the horrible mechanics. Stop ducking, tucking and running every time he gets a little pressure. Learn to feel pressure. Learn to get thru his progressions quicker. First receiver covered, dump off covered...he tucks, escapes the pocket and a lot of the time rolls right into the pressure.

I’ll give him...he’s a great leader, says all the right things, tougher than a lightered knot and seems to play better late in games.

He’s a mediocre QB. He’ll never put a team on his back and carry them anywhere. Can we win with him? Yes if all pieces around him are perfect.

All this being said, this team won’t sniff another SB until there’s a complete turnover in the front office and coaching staff starting at the top in both. It doesn’t matter who the QB is! We’ll have up and down seasons but SB’s are done!

Nothing will ever change the Debbie downers and haters.
If Dak is part of a winning SB team, he will have gone along for the ride. He will never be the QB Romo was. If he wins one SB, we would have won 2-3 with a real QB. That’s the nature of those on this board. Many would rather have a stats guy who never wins anything and can’t lead the team.

Us "Dak haters" pointed out his footwork problems, trouble fitting the ball into tight windows, inaccurate deep ball, etc. All of this was there his rookie year - having 15 minutes behind the line covers a lot of flaws.

And we will see this year, Dak has been struggling with his footwork since college - you think he's finally just going to get it during his fourth year in the pros?

I think the Mods should look at the title of threads like this. To call people who are critical of giving Dak a 30m extension "haters" is wrong.

Firstly, I dont agree with giving an extension now for a similar reasons to those outlined by matt above.

Secondly, regardless of the above, the coaching situation for 2020 needs to be sorted before we extend ANY starting QB (Garrett and co are out of contract before Dak hits FA). 2020 coach will have their own preferences.

Having these opinions does not mean I hate Dak. On the contrary, I think he is someone who works hard and has taken his talent further than most - what's not to admire about this? I dont hate any NFL players. I respect them all as pros.

I know a lot of people follow individual players. Im not one of them. For me its all about supporting the Cowboys. Its the team that has my loyalty.

If I were to answer the OPs question, then Dak would need to fix the faults mentioned by matt and be compatible with the 2020 coaching staff. I dont have any targets in terms of winning games or playoffs. Regardless of record, if he permanently fixes his problems he deserves an extension. Im not optimistic that its possible, but who knows.

The problem with your statement that Dak only leads us to FG attempts is so far from the truth is laughable. Much like everything you write about Dak.

You realize that only 3 QBs in the history of the NFL have thrown for at least 22 passing TDs every year in their first 3 years of their career and Dak is one of them.

I am curious...how many QBs have 48 starys their first 3 years? And how many of those weren't on lousy teams?

I had to take the offseason off of this place because I'm a pragmatist: I go with what works.

Dak Prescott as the Dallas Cowboys quarterback works.

And the numbers prove it.

Numbers are facts, to me at least. Most stats can tell you something in the context of the team... Dak has the stats of a winner. He wins. He's proven that.

So, I get tired of arguing with people who think Dak's a loser — for whatever reason.

That facts are, almost every single statistic you point at proves he's not.

So, what would Dake have to do in 2019 for all of the Dak-hating, fact-denying quarterback know-it-alls to eat crow on Dak being a legit quarterback for the Dallas Cowboys?

I was Romo's first fan. I loved watching him play. But I'm happy to be moving forward with Dak.

What would he have to do to make you happy?
Dak doesn't have a win/loss record.

LOL. I just saw this post, although I posted my response earlier than reading this...as I mentioned its inevitable for Dak Lovers/Dak Fanatics...they will mention Romo and they will Mention contract and money...neither of which has anything to do with his play..... too funny
His play is why he’s getting the contract, crap-for-brains.

“DURRR NO CORRELATION!”

Well who are the other 2??????? just curious.
I have been watching some 1990 and 91 cowboy games, and aikman was not only same as dak and maybe worse, but he could not finish either season!
He was like wentz get hurt and out for the season. or large part of end.
It was in 92 in his 4th year? that he became a great qb , and with addition of hailey and few others the team jelled.
Also coaching was not all that great in 90 or 91, and most of the SB players were already there.
People forget all that and just rave on the team that won the SB's , and even then give way too much credit to the triplet's.
The other 2 are Peyton Manning and Andrew Luck.

Aikman was terrible his first few years

I’d say put the team on his back and win a couple of games. He has the clutch gene and pulls games out in the 4th but normally because he hadn’t played well to begin with. Sure I will be corrected but I can’t think of a game when the defense laid an egg and Dak just won a shoot out.

I think this is a fair, reasonable answer.

But I think in some ways, he's already done that a few times.

What valid criticism? I have yet to read a post with meaningful fact-based criticism. You pick the category. Wins. Comeback wins. Completion percentage. Yards per completion. Rushing touchdowns. TD to INT ratio. It goes on and on.

Even the sacks he has taken (holds the ball too long) is a phantom argument - he takes less sacks and less fumble/sacks than Wentz, for example.

I would love to see someone criticize Dak with a fact-based argument.

You said it all right here.

Well done.

I think last year, we would be considered balanced, but Dak still had a good amount of passing attempts. We were not "balanced" in the 90s, we were a running team with an RB that would run the ball nearly 400 times with other RBs dividing out - one year, an RB behind Smith had something like 60-70 carries, Johnson had around 40.

With Zeke, you'll have him rushing 300-320 times with about 30-40 more carries coming from the backup and that's about it. The 90s was a run first, run heavy offense. Zeke is simply an overworked RB on the field for both running, catching, and blocking.

And I just showed you the numbers.

That was the 90s when it was a run to pass league.

Now it's a pass to run league.

fact haters? sorry man thats just childish>
here are some facts - Romo 9 years a starter got us 2 bye's and 2 playoff wins
Dak 3 years a starter 1 bye, 1 playoff win, and thats with a better running game and better defense
We will see what happens. Most people you perceive as "haters" are just people who want to see more consistent good play and better results
You want to anoint him already? Thats your right, but dont pretend you have facts on your side when more objective people dont

The facts are there.

The only thing holding him back is slowly improving, too, after over a decade of on-the-job training.

Romo wasn't able to win in spite of Garrett.

Things are falling into place for Dak, and his game will improve even more.

I don't know. I am hit or miss when it comes to talent for most positions. But I usually hit on quarterbacks and running backs. Over the years.

Dak has one thing most people missed about Romo, too. And that is he has what it takes between the ears. In addition to world-class athleticism, which only gets you so far in this league, or any football league really.
