Pretty sure that’s not correct.
Enmitt played for Florida. He spear headed the UF turn around that the 'Ole Ball coach took advantage of in the 1990s. Emmitt saved UF from bottoming out when they went on probation.

I was doing a search last night on Google and stumbled into this extremely rare postgame photo of Emmitt Smith and Barry Sanders together. The only pics you typically find of them together are from them at Pro Bowl practices in the early 90's and one in-game pic, and now mostly post retirement pics.

This is the very first photo I have ever seen of them together on the field in their team's uniform. I just thought this was too good not to share.

Thanks brother Thomas! Two big thumbs up

Ok two more memories just popped into my head. But I'll start from the beginning.

I walked in on an argument between two bosses. One asked me if Thurman, Emmitt, and Barry went to OSU together. I said no. The other boss was already reading the article on computer. According to the article they did.

A year or two later I rewatched the Cowboys and Bill's first Superbowl. I recorded it on VHS when I was a kid then transferred it to DVD. I had an hours worth of pre-game before the game. So one commentator said we have the best two backs in the game. The other said Barry might have something to say about that. That conversation lead to the OSU story with as l three attending.

After that Superbowl Thurman signed a new deal that summer. Emmitt ended up holding out. First game of the season Thurman had #22 written on his socks. (This is one of the new memories) commentator of that game said it was in support of Emmitt his old OSU teammate.

I also just remembered that a player can walk away from a letter of intent if he pays for the second school himself. So if a player signs with school A but decided to go to school B then that player has to pay for school B out of his own pocket.

Not asking anyone to trust my memory but I trust my memory. So dont bite my head off.

Just saying. That's what I remember.

There is no mention of visiting OSU in Emmitt's book, The Emmitt Zone.

According to his book, he visited Nebraska, Clemson, Alabama, Florida State, Auburn and Florida.
He strongly considered Nebraska but decided it was too cold and too far from home.
In the end, it came down to Auburn or Florida. He went to Florida to please his mom.

Referenced from "The Emmitt Zone", pages 68-71 in chapter 6 titled "College Days".

I would rather have mike alstott leading earl campbell through the hole than face Barry Sanders

Atleast I know where mike and earl are and can get a hand on them

Barry on the other hand would juke you out of your underpants and the last thing I need the world to see is my underpants on the field
Yeah, but with Alstott and Campbell hitting you, you might be carried off the field on a cart. At least with Sanders you can walk off the field totally embarrassed under your own power.

Emmitt Smith is the Rodney Dangerfield "get no respect" greatest RB of All Time. They talk about Barry, Jim Brown, Walter Payton, and Eric Dickerson. But Emmitt Smith was the complete RB to run, block, and catch his way to the All Time Leading Rusher in NFL History. Putting that record in a stratosphere that it would take a great running back, with a great GMs and Owners to allow him to play long enough to break it.

When you combine his high school (was all time leading rusher in FL), college, and pro rushing yards it makes the outstanding unreal. He was the focal player on offense at the RB position for 22 years with 1 season below 900 yards, and ran for over 1K 17 years. People also forget that Emmitt Smith had 7 consecutive seasons of +40 catches and +/-250 yards.

That is Emmitt Smith, catch 22, son of a father that play semi pro football in his 40's. "He gets no respect."

I found this from an article I read about Emmitt and Barry....

"Smith was an incredibly productive running back. In 1990 Smith gained 937 yards and was named Offensive Rookie of the Year. In 1991 Smith led the NFL in rushing, gaining 1,563 yards, and was named to the All-Pro team. Repeat the accolades for 1992: Smith gained 1,713 yards (to lead the league again), had 18 touchdowns, averaged 4.6 yards per carry, and made All-Pro.

What a record of accomplishment! Yet, during those years none–I repeat, none–of the Cowboys’ O-linemen was named All-Pro. That’s three consecutive years of outstanding rushing–4,213 yards cumulatively–without Smith running behind even one All-Pro offensive lineman!"

Don Huston

Still taking Jerry Rice.

That's where I am at.

I concede that Jim Brown could have been the greatest player in NFL history, but I am not willing to go there for someone I wasnt' alive to see.

Let me add something to your post. Not only were there no All-Pro linemen from the Cowboys in those years, but none of the linemen even made it to the Pro Bowl. Emmitt actually won his first rushing title WITHOUT a single Pro Bowl lineman .

Quit ...on the Lions. The Lions did nothing to help Barry.

the only piece they were missing was a competent QB play and HC. They had good players, not a stud OL, THey had 3 very good WR, they had good DL and decent LB and secondary

That might have been 1991 season playoff game, the last one the Lions won.

Yep. The problem for them is, outside of Dallas no one really thinks Emmitt was better than Barry.

I'm not even close to Dallas and Emmitt was better than Barry. Just my opinion. Even Emmitt says Barry was better than himself.

You get a hand on Earl, he might pull your arm off as he runs over you.

God knows i love Emmitt and he deserves to be called the greatest because he owns the record but i think Barry Sanders and even Jim Brown for that matter were greater or better (choose the word you like more) than Emmitt. But no matter how you rate them they are and should be the top 3 on anybody's list. Jim Brown retired after 9 seasons at age 29 with 12312 yards and at the top of his game coming off a season with 1544 yards, he never missed a game and keep this in mind his 1st 4 seasons they only played 12 games a year and his last 5 seasons they played 14 games a season. All 3 of these guys were great, durable backs, the biggest difference is one quit after 9 seasons at age 29 and the other left after 10 seasons at age 30 ( both at the top of their games when they quit) and Emmitt kept playing until he was 35-36 (at a very high level) but facts are facts

Jim Brown averaged 125 yards per game (rushing and receiving combined)
Barry Sanders averaged 119 yards per game (rushing and receiving combined)
Emmitt Smith averaged 108 yards oer game (rushing and recieving combined in his 1st 10 years) if i included his last 5 years his numbers drop and i wanted a comparison that was the same to Sanders and Brown.

All 3 were great backs but the numbers say Brown and Sanders were a little better
