This might quiet the talk for a year or two: Our friends at College Football Talk reported that an open records request by the Tulsa World discovered that Riley has a $4.6 million buyout if he leaves OU for any job, including the NFL, after the 2019 season. The buyout drops by $1 million every year thereafter until March 16, 2022, when OU will waive the buyout.

He’ll be in Dallas next year replacing Garrett barring a miracle season

Jerry, got your checkbook open? Check made out? Just need to sign it, and do not let your son snatch it from your hand before you can hand it over.

What position on Kris Richard's staff does he take?

But I thought this place said we were going to win a Super Bowl this year? Why would Riley come here when we have the future super bowl champ in Garrett leading us?

Pushing out CBs because he doesn't like their size and not able to adjust vs the Rams, do you really want him as the next coach?

Who cares? Another Chip Kelly experiment, perfect.

You never know, but I seriously doubt LR will leave Oklahoma without a Nat Champ win.

Also, in a bidding war, it’s unlikely Jerry Jones would outbid OU for his services.

He pushed Byron Jones out to a Pro Bowl. And our CBs are not the reason Dallas gave up 170 rushing yards to Rams in the first half of that game.

Richard is guy with leadership in every fiber of his body, IMO he becomes HC and Garrett takes a front office position at some point, no matter what record we have.

The Rams were 13-3 for a reason and had a week to rest and plan. It’s not like they were a 9-7 team that had played the week before.

Buyouts are common in college coach contracts and do not prevent any of them from taking other opportunities.

They should do that in the NFL instead of forced draft picks.

As far as Riley being a good NFL candidate, jury hasn't even gone to the jury room on him. I am not even sure he'd make a good NFL OC.

Brilliant offensive mind, his defenses have been such garbage I don't know he even values it that much.

Chip Kelly failed mainly because Lurie pushed Roseman aside and give Kelly control over personnel.
What about Saban? The Lincoln Riley obsession with some of these folks is ridiculous. He inherited a great program and therefore has had a constant flow of great players, especially QB. He also coaches in the weakest defensive conference in college football. Speaking of defenses, does OU have one?

Riley has a lot to prove.

If Kliff is successful in Arizona he will be able to name his own price whether he is any good or not....

What's it going to be then, eh?

He has to prove a lot less than Kingsbury, who bears watching. If he is even moderately successful, Riley will be very sought after.

Saban failed in large part because of the decision not to sign Drew Brees and picking Culpepper instead.

That may be and I don’t think KK has earned his spot either.

I’ll say this...I usually stay out of Dak threads for various reasons and this isn’t a knock on Dak in any way but if Riley did become our HC, I would be highly doubtful he would be successful with Dak just as KK wouldn’t have success with a QB that didn’t fit his scheme which is quite specific.

Saban will retire from Bama and be Bear Bryant II. He had his taste of the NFL and exited just like Spurrier and Petrino and Kelly did. He's got the ultimate situation and he's not leaving.

Riley is Kingsbury II, just has the luxury of auto recruiting and OU has been the top Texas recruiter for years before Riley took over from Stoops. They don't even bother to recruit in their own home state, had one OK player. Coaches in the Big 12 where it's all about QB's and not about defense.

That outscore the opponent philosophy works a hell of a lot better in college than the NFL as Kelly found out and running that no huddle works a lot better with 80 players than 45.

Ha, “auto recruiting”, love it. I’m lifting that term from you :)

Consider that a gift.

But some of these coaches get into that and Stoops was one. On game day in Dallas, you could drive around town and the OU flags outnumbered all others.

The shocker came for me as I am watching Bama vs Miss St. a couple of years ago and the camera caught these two Miss St players on the sideline and the color guy said "those are the only 4 star recruits on the team. By contrast, Bama has two players that are not 4 or 5 star on their entire team". They didn't name or show those two kids but Bama's program was so strong that they could recruit 5 star players and have them sit until their senior season, play one year and go in the first round.

Now that UGA is coming on with Saban's former DC as the HC and the Swinney effect at Clemson, Bama has to work a little harder and those Clemson DL going that high might cut into Bama's stable a little.

The thing that really impresses me about Saban and his program is that he's a D coach and loves the run game. Yet, his WR's, Julio, Cooper and Ridley, all come out more NFL ready than the others. He's not just recruiting, he's developing.
