I would agree. year on, year off trend. First place schedule, increased expectations usually doom this team.

"The Cowboys are good but not great and didn't do much to improve this offseason."

lol. I'm guessing the writer didn't do much to improve his non bias observation skills.

What he didn't do is his homework. Or he's living in the past. The Cowboys didn't do much after the 2016 season. I don't mind people criticizing the Cowboys, it's their opinion. But when they're flat out wrong, it kind of irks me.

You can tell by the reasoning beneath each team that there wasn't much thought put into it. Just a couple of quick observations and possible outcomes with IFs and BUTs.

The Bears one made me laugh. He thinks they will make the playoffs but they made this list because of the well rounded Vikings (who didn't make the playoffs) and another team with Rodgers, who also didn't make the playoffs. Yep, living in the past.

Nobody really knows exactly what the Cowboys, nor the Iggles will do in 2019.

I'll take my chances with the Cowboys this year and won't bother to look back.

Right, that's my point. At the same time, it's hard to imagine that it's actually ingrained in this team to have a good year after a bad year, and a bad year after a good one. But that is what's happened lately.

This is true, but a lot of this is bad luck, chance, and some bad choices. The team quit on the coach in 2010. Romo got injured in 2015. Who knows how those seasons pan out otherwise? The Cowboys did next to nothing in the off season after 2016 with a looming 6 game suspension on Zeke. This in the first season since the 2006 off season that the Cowboys are building off last season for a deeper playoff run. The most noticeable time before that, 1991. I prefer that trend.

It’s that and the fact that philly or whoever is the closest competition plays a second place schedule. So the season and making the playoffs or not basically comes down to the two games against the closet competition in the division. Lose them both with a 1st place schedule and it’s certain doom. Split and the schedule differences could still doom you. Win both and a playoff spot is very likely. That’s the recipe for the repeating good year bad year cycle.

Commanders and Eagles are not going to be pushovers, Giants yes will be bad as usual. I feel 50/50 as to playoff chances.

Dak seems super focused and everyone has raved about the improvement with his touch on deep passes. And no moe Linehan, which by itself is an improvement. Moore won't be predictable.

DT - added Trysten Hill, Christian Covington, Daniel Wise (has chance making team).
DE - added Robert Quinn, Kerry Hyder, Joe Jackson, Jalen Jelks.
CB - added Michael Jackson (was getting some praise in ota's).
RB - added Tony Pollard, Mike Weber.
WR - added Randall Cobb, Cedric Wilson (out last year, showed promise before injj.), and some ufa rookie wr's coaches also like.
OL - added Conner McGovern, Mitch Hyatt (could make team).

So basically, anyone the Cowboys sign to the roster is an improvement?

Couldn't every other team in the NFL say that? Hey, look, we drafted these guys, we're better now?
Do the guys that left have any impact on improvement, or are we doing this in a vacuum where the team remains just as good, regardless of who leaves, and then is only improved upon with each addition?

I'm not saying the team isn't better...but your list isn't that convincing.

We improved. You'll be convinced come training camp. We have Frederick back too who I forgot to mention.

Hmmmmm.
Can't wait. The biggest difference is that this offensive line is getting to get back to 2016 form. We have Beard back, we aren't experimenting with some Cincinnati offensive line coach and switching back half way. Williams is bigger and stronger and if he can't do it, we are going to bring our stud rookie in to replace him. We are going to run the ball down people's throats again and then when teams stack the box we are going to have guys streaking wide open because we actually have an O-coordinator that is somewhat creative. It's going to be a good year.

Any writer-for-a-day could look at Garrett's track record and assume we aren't going to the playoffs.

The six teams most likely to miss the playoffs after making it in 2018-2019

Dallas Cowboys

I was one of those dead-wrong folks who thought the Eagles would win the NFC East last year. So, mark me down as one of the many people who think Philadelphia will reign supreme in their division this year. The Cowboys are good but not great and didn't do much to improve this offseason. They have a mediocre coach at best, and Dallas is stuck with Jason Garrett because he made the playoffs last year. That might cause the Cowboys to miss the playoffs this year.

Yawwwnnnn... did somebody say something? No, okay. Wake me at the end of the season for prognostications about who made and who didn't.

Who is this guy? I see more opinions posted from people I've never heard of before but I seldom see credentials.

I gotta say, no opinions carry more weight than the ones I see here.

He's not necessarily wrong about the Garrett part. Garrett is an average head coach. And Garrett's track record is one of one good season followed by one not so good season.

Jason Garrett is arguably the biggest issue facing this team heading into 2019.
