Name me a single jets players that has had huge endorsement deals on a national level.... going back to??? Namath, Gasteneau? NYC Media market does zero for crappy jets teams and their players. Dallas is hardly a national media market, but with the internet and cable coverage, Dallas might as well be NYC, because they get tenfold the media coverage the jets do.

In fairness, I doubt many Cowboy players were getting huge national endorsements when the Cowboys were cranking out 5-11 seasons. Cowboy players have an advantage in getting endorsement deals over players on most teams as long as they are doing well, but players in NY also have an advantage as long as their teams are doing well. It's all about high profiles, and NY teams have that advantage as long as they do well. But companies don't care about NY or Dallas if the team sucks.

On the contrary, Texas has a lower cost of living, no state income tax and they can sell more merchandise, get more promo/sponsor money by playing in Dallas. They should be paid less by playing for the Cowboys.

Players can't sell their merchandise with team logo.
Cowboys control that.

But players get a few more perks here than other places.

star players on lousy teams get huge contracts in free agency. all that matters is their play on the field. when it comes to the money, the opinions of fans and reporters doesn't matter. it becomes a matter between the agent and the front office. all deals are predicated on what others have done and their contracts.
I can't understand the propaganda.

Apparently their salaries are taxed in states with income taxes. Good news is for Cowboys at least half of their games are at home so it is a significant savings.

Of the states that don’t have state income taxes only Florida, Tennessee, Texas and Washington have professional teams . Nevada is fixing to add to the list.
But because of the property taxes in the DFW area, the Cowboys are the worst among the no state income tax states.

First of all you have to understand who pays the players salaries. And what dictates the salary cap. And it's not ticket sales LOL

This is not true at all..........Bucs players pay NO state taxes as long as their primary residence is based in Florida

You’re wrong. They pay no taxes on money earned for home games, or road games played in a state without state income tax, but when they play on the road in states with a state income tax they are required to pay it.

True.

It’s called the “ Jock Tax” for athletes paying income taxes on states that have it.

Now if you live in a state with no income taxes then all other income like endorsements , personal business, investments ,etc are not taxable. Just the games which are played in states with income tax.

Basically a professional athlete might have to file numerous tax returns for each state they played. And a separate one for the state they live in.

It's not exposure that causes players to be overpaid; it's stupid owners like Jerry who will pay big bucks for mediocrity and familiarity.

I was under the impression that any time, for instance, a fan buys an official Cowboys jersey with #21 Elliott on it, that Zeke himself gets a certain portion of the profit - that players are entitled to a cut of the money earned off of merchandise that bears their own name. But I could be wrong.

I have often thought that our players are over hyped,well..... because they are Dallas Cowboys.
The team, and thus the players are on national TV all the time and thus I have felt that players get quick credit for things that others do as well. Then contract time comes up, and they get to demand big bucks, maybe a decent amount of money MORE than they would be able to command if they played for the bucs, or the Chargers. Does this make any sense?

No.

The only person that that overpays for Cowboys players is Skins owner Dan Synder.

GMs don't care about the popularity of the Cowboys.

GMs do at times overpay for players on dominant offenses or defenses.

Players want to play on a winning team. Teddy brewski cut his salary just to be with the Patriots. When you win that's when you attract.

I remember in the old days I don't recall exactly who it was we were playing against the Commanders. And one of the Cowboys ask the other player how much he got paid. The Cowboy player thought he was lying. If anything we underpaid.

In the military there's a reason why they call you g i. Your government-issued they own everything about you including your fingernails. I don't know how civilian franchise works. But I imagine the franchise owns the rights unless it's a signature

No, it does not work like that; although, the players overall do get a share.

The CBA sets a minimum and maximum salary floor/cap.

Those min/max numbers are set as a percent of revenue.

That guarantees the players as a group get a certain percent of the revenue.

Tex Schramm seemed to be a bit cheap back in those pre-cap days.

Jerry was cheap in the early years (Emmitt holdout, Jimmy Smith ordeal).

At some point Jerry flipped and started overpaying.

Now Stephen Jones is running the football operations and he is conservative.

This is exactly what Im talking about. Are they good? Sure, but in one year together, they are now the "Best." IMagine in 2 more years, they will be comparing them to the greatest LB core of all time, and J. Smith contract is gonna need to be redone, and presto.... we either pay an enormous amount or he leaves.
Everything Cowboys is hyped, and this is an absolute perfect example of what I was talking about in the original post.

I've thought the same thing.

But we have been drafting very well recently and then traded for Amari Cooper who has one year on his deal. That trade is really what is making things difficult. Had to be done to get a young elite WR though.

Giving big money to Zeke is not like giving big money to Marion Barber. The FO now lets decent talent walk if they demand too much.
That deal was made because of a mistake,, Linehan isn't the only one to blame, and McClay has been exceptional in his role,, but being put into a position where you have to ever trade a top pick for position in void, means that someone wasn't doing there job... projecting.
