Rico is blowing his chance, and I suspect it’s because of his attitude.

Wit told us two years ago that Jarwin was the one doing the right things. Turns out, the players actually know what’s what.
Maybe he's right and he's forcing his way onto another team where he could get some playing time.

I'm just surprised he's still on the team at this point.
Cool thread, O.P.,,it made for some entertaining reading:lmao:

Do you think Tampa Bay would give the #80 a shot?,,, And I don't know just exactly why,but I'm sensing a possible precise 'fit' for the Rico/ Eye's of a killer on that unit's gaming roster, I'd imagine J. Winston would try to work the hell outta' him.o_O

Rico is definitely on the bubble this year, and he's busy mouthing off.

I think Jarwin will be the best fit for Moore's style of offense. Can line up all over the place. He's put on some weight, too. Listed as 260 now.
Schultz looks like the Witten style replacement. But is he really still 244?
Witten is the chains mover.

Rico has gotten better as the blocking TE, but he's not great shakes at it. If he had focused on that since he came to the league, he'd be a lock for the roster and a career in the NFL. I've been pulling for him, but he just seems to feel entitled to move up the roster, and that's what gets you dropped when you're on the bubble.

I don't think it's fair to Gathers for it to be assumed that he's not putting in the work to get better. He came into the league as a guy trying to learn to play football on the highest level of the game. That's difficult.

He probably should keep his mouth shut, but just because he's running it doesn't mean he isn't working or trying to be the best that he can be.

Not saying this about you, but reading through this thread it just boggles my mind how some just write players off because they have an opinion. I'll wait and see if he can make that next step from a guy who's learning to play to one who can play. Frankly, it would be best for our team if he proves he can do that.

You mean the guy who can't run routes and has hands of concrete and whines on social media like a 14 year old who got dumped ISN'T a team favorite?

I, for one, am shocked. SHOCKED.

Maybe. Maybe he is really good at a position of significant need last season and the coaches just chose to play lesser players instead.

Or maybe he gets cut this season and is never heard from again.

Not to rehash the entire history of Rico, but there are quotes of him talking like he's fated for greatness, saying something like "Gronkowski doesn't block", when asked about his own weak blocking, then his up and down weight, then finally last year discovering that it might be helpful to learn how to block. But at least he did finally seem to recognize that he needed to *work* to make it in the NFL.

What I see in the latest comments from Rico is a regression who feels *entitled* to more play time, and resentful that he's not getting it. That's generally not a positive predictor of busting your hump to get better.

I agree that shade is more thrown on the coaching staff determining the depth chart. But apparently its true, marijuana does impair judgement.

You have to have the ability to judge with or without marijane. It's ones reality that gets lost.

I loved JW but if they both get cut it will be a plus.

Rico would be better served of shutting his mouth and laying off twitter and spend more time on the field working and learning. Out of 4 TE Dallas has last season he was still the weakest link and unless he changes that he will be out of here

If Rico was on the Pats, he would be Gronk-esque. This coaching staff doesn't know how to adjust to use players to their best abilities. You either fit in with the structure at hand or you ride the pine until you're cut.

I REALLY wanting him to be our next TE. I was enamored by his potential. I've watched the film by ****NOT-AN-OFFICIAL-SOURCE*** before. I disagreed on the hot pass to the left when he was covered by a CB. Rico has to go up and get that ball. Was it hot? Yes. Easy catch? No. But if you're a 6'7" TE and want to be the next great thing, you go up and get that ball. The other one was clearly on Dak. He didn't step into the throw because of the pressure and just missed.

But, unless it all comes together for him in a big way this preseason, the gamble and experiment should end. I think we have some potential in the other young TE's on the roster. If no one emerges as a threat, we will have to draft one next year.

He might, then again Pats may have cut him already while Dallas has continued to keep him.

How in the world, anyone thinks this is shots fired at Witten is beyond me. Coaching staff maybe, but this comment is so benign, that I doubt they care.

I think you're reading into it. I haven't seen any indication that Gathers isn't working to get better the last couple of seasons. Talk isn't a big thing unless that's all it is. A lot of players are egotistical and believe they are the best there is. That can be a form of motivation for them.

Like I said, I'll see what materializes on the field. If he can't get it figured out this year, he's gone. However, it's in our best interest for the mental side to fall into place for him and him to become the beast he thinks that he is.

he maybe putting in the work, but may not be talented to be good. we assume because we "dream" and "fantasize" as if he is the next Gates....at this point he is a very limited route runner and even in preseason I have seen him run just a couple of simple routes......he has had success in preseason against 4th and 5th string scrubs....against better players he has struggled.

He has really improved in his blocking, I was hoping the coaching staff would give him more passing opportunities. Wishing him the best.
