Actually, this news doesn't affect anything.

Cooper will continue to wait as a deal is supposed to get done based on the words of the Falcons owner.

I'm assuming this works in favor of the Cowboys extending Cooper and may move things forward with his situation.

Let's get the Cooper deal done today!

"Today" is the worst time for a team to make a deal. The player isn't on the field and has zero risk whatsoever of injury. Let the preseason or regular season start and have them start to assume some risk and see how the tune changes.

Remember it takes 2 to tango.....some are saying it's highly possible any delays are on Coop. He may have no interest in signing a new deal until AFTER this season.

From some of what he's said, it appears to me he wants to prove his worth this year. That makes sense to me.

Right now, he's a former first-rounder whom his original team decided it could do without. Even though he showed what he could do when he came here, he still has that stigma of his previous play not showing that he should be considered among the league's best receivers. A player like Julio Jones as eight years of proven ability, even showing that he could come back strong from injury. Cooper has two great years and 1 1/2 bad years before returning to greatness after the trade.

You know if Cooper were Julio Jones I would say get it done. Im a little skeptical about giving Cooper big money right now because of his history in Oakland. He was drafted and had a pretty good season then got worse for whatever reason he had a very high drop rate. He had a pretty good season last year and I would just like to see it one more time before paying him. I just dont like the idea of paying a WR 20 mil though. I dont know what he is asking but we have seen the Giants and the Steelers let these high paid WRs walk. Teams that win the SB dont usually have an elite WR.

Nothing will happen with either contract until the start of TC. Either right before or shortly after.
I would be very surprised if either one or both were to happen in the next few weeks.

No urgency to get them done now, however when TC gets nears or close, they don't want that looming over the TC as they prepare for the season.

As mentioned above, when TC starts and the injury possibility is there, they will want to get some guaranteed money.

It appears Coop is willing to bet on having a top 3 2019 season. Remember he recently admitted he was NOT worthy of being the highest paid WR "right now". My guess, Stephen is willing to sign him right now $17-18M. Personally, I would sign this is in heartbeat and not look back. Not sure holding off ( entire season) to see if you can increase your market value another $2-3M is being smart. Guess what happens if you blow ACL during 2019 season? Just my take, but he can probably kiss any long-term offer from the Cowboys goodbye coz early indications 2020 WR unit will be one the strongest in quite a few years. Not to mention Gallup elevating his game......

Former Giants WR Steve Smith (remember him?) took that big risk and got burned.

It's entirely possible Cooper will only sign an extension if he can get paid as a top WR. And if not, he may bet on himself to prove he's worthy this season and either get tagged, get top money from Dallas or top money elsewhere.

And by top WR that could mean Odell money.

I like Amari but 20 mil is kinda steep.

That's what happens when you give up a first rounder for a player. Letting the player walk would be a waste, and the player knows this. So he'll definitely be over paid. To what extent I don't know.

I totally agree! and whats stinks is it appears more and more players are feeling entitled and if you give in everyone else will want to be over paid. Im waiting for them to let Zeke walk when he holds out next year and then teams will play man to man and double Amari and then we will see how Dak does facing what most QBs have to deal with that dont have the luxury of an elite RB defenses focus on.

This.

Amari has all the leverage.

Most definitely. They gave the player and his agent all the leverage the moment they traded for him.

Maybe...... the question is how many productive years we need from him to pay/justify the cost of our 1st round pick. I'm guessing 3-4 years coz unlike a rookie ( we would have use the pick ) he made an immediate impact as a vet. He's still under contract 2016 @ $16M which would give 2 years of service. We could tag him 2020 for approx $19-20m and 2021 $21-22M and let him walk. That would give us almost 4 years of high-level service/impact for the cost of our 2018 1st rd pick. I'd have no problem taking this route. In fact, I would even consider drafting WR 2020 1st or 2nd round 2020 ( esp since it's rumored to be one of the strongest units).
