For those of us under 35, are the Commanders a rival to you?

More the Commanders than the Eagles or Giants for me.

Eagles and their fans hate us more because they wanted to be the rivalry to us over the Commanders. But Dallas pretty much blew off the Eagles, because they were not really in our class at the time, so that was the way they looked at it, like we treated them as the red headed step child. Giants weren't either until Parcells came along and rebuilt them. At the time the Cardinals were in the division, and didn't do anything either. I think they won the division around the mid 70's, the one year Dallas did not make the playoffs during that span.

So it was alway the Cowboys and Commanders as was growing up. So this to me is still the biggest rivalry in the NFL. Regardless of how the teams are playing, it will be an anything goes and outcome game.

Some fans would say Bears - Packers, and they have that right if those are the teams they follow and grew up with. But what draws bigger ratings...we know that answer.

I’ll be 38 end of this week and heck yes it’s a rivalry. The hit that took out Troy should be enough for you guys to hate them. Go watch some history. Go listen to Joe Theisman call a game. After listening to Joe talk for 5 minutes go watch LT rip his leg apart bet you laugh and I’m the type I don’t wish injury but I like that one. I hated McNabb and watching him go to the Skins and flop was priceless. See the Skins all excited about Bob Griffin then seeing their hearts ripped out was joyful.
Cool post, and yes! Hearing the uncontrollable bitter contempt in Theisman's on air voice is just about priceless:lmao:

Everyone had trouble covering Moss but he had the height and speed to give Newman fits.

Also, we avoided drafting him and he took it as a personal affront.

Needless to say, he usually made us pay! :(
Santana, not Randy lol

I just turned 38, and while of course I can’t stand any of our division rivals, the eagles are the worst for me.

I really enjoyed trolling Extremeskins when I was in high school. So yes.

Dude that's awesome you used to do that.

I gotta say nothing, and I mean NOTHING, is more enjoyable than peeking in on Extremeskins on game day and seeing the meltdowns during bad loses. I've had tears rolling down my eyes with their reactions.

I remember one particular game when they had a win in the bag and they were gloating and yucking it up when their kicker missed an extra point and the game went into overtime and they eventually lost.

It was priceless. Still brings a smile to my face.

If you live in the DMV they’re definitely the biggest or second biggest rival. Their fans make it that way.

I think the big rivalry of Cowboys/Commanders were in the 80's to early 90's. Maybe a little before the 80"s..

It definitely goes back to the 70's with George Allen as the coach. George Allen was the spawn of Satan. That was the era where the Commanders intentionally tried to hurt players, and George Allen promoted that. That was the era where the Commanders declared before the 1974 Thanksgiving game that they intended to injure Roger Staubach and put him out of the game (which they did, and Clint Longley became engrained in Cowboy lore by leading the Cowboys to a come from behind victory. Also for another less positive reason, but not pertinent to this discussion). That was the era with Diron Talbert on the Commanders D-Line, one of the dirtiest players in football. The Commanders were the only consistent competition for the Cowboys in the division in those days, and were always the team Dallas had to beat to win the division (and usually did). It was a heated rivalry.

No...they are a worse version of us. I kid you not when they were 6-3 last year I coulda cared less they shoot themselves in the foot or have injuries so much they aren’t worth caring about

Their fans are EXTREAMY annoying tho

If it wasn’t for the fans who treat every first down like it’s a game winning touchdown I wouldn’t mind them...they have players I like on that team and their uniforms are cool

But Commanders fans will always see us as a rival they let off fireworks for one week when they beat dallas

They had some pretty good Cowboy haters themselves. Got into some pretty intense debates and never got banned, even as a 15 year old. It was a fun time. Cowboyszone is one of the few independent fan forums that is still going strong with the Reddit and twitter taking over.

Not only that, but haven't they actually been taking seats out of their stadium?
Yeah it’s hilarious. Snyder’s been trying to get a new one built for ages but keeps gunning for locations that the host city would never approve.

For example he tried getting approval for old RFK but they declined him. He needs a stadium bad too if he wants to rejuvenate the fanbase.

One other detail I forgot to mention. Many of the younger fans, and probably even some of the older ones, don't know this, but when Clint Murchison, the Cowboys original owner, was trying to get a team admitted to the NFL, the Commanders owner was against it, so Murchison bought the rights to the Commanders fight song "Hail to the Commanders", and threatened to prevent the Commanders from using the song unless they backed his effort to have an NFL team. The Commanders relented.

"maybe a little bit before the 80s"?
son have a seat
the Cowboys/Commanders rivalry of the 70s was THE rivalry
every game was shown on national tv
George Allen, the Commanders head coach, would trash talk the Cowboys
they met in the playoffs I think it was 3 times

honestly in my 48 years of watching sports its a top 5 rivalry
Yanks/RedSox
Lakers/Celtics
Michigan/Ohio State

Cowboys/Commanders from maybe 68 to 82 or so was right there

He said under 3

Looks like someone's hopped up on geritol and forgot their bifocals. I told the assisted living nurse to leave the fiber by your dentures.

As far as the Commanders, yes. They stank and I hate 'em. Their fans remind me of Afghanistan, bombed out and depleted. They do stunts for Little Richard on the weekends.
Im surprised you can get off of instagram and stop playing angry birds long enough to post this

I have enough hate in me to equally distributed it among all the Cowboys NFC East opponents. Maybe I have just a little more hate for the iggles these days but I consider all the NFC East opponents as rivals. Division games just mean more anyway and I love the history of the NFC East.

I don't get it why millennials even question any rivalry only because it started before they were fans. Rivalries normally don't start over a single game but over a period of time and just because it started before they started watching doesn't make it not a rivalry. As another users pointed out the skins could be in the depths of a bad season but when they play the Cowboys those games are usually very close and it's two games the skins really get up for each year. For all teams, the other teams in their division are rivals and the rivalry with the eagles has been a little more the past few seasons but that doesn't make the skins rivalry less of a rivalry.

LOL I thought about that after I responded. Come to think of it, I started watching football as a little kid back in 1976 (or 77) but I remember the first game I ever watched was the Cowboys VS Commanders..
