For those of us under 35, are the Commanders a rival to you?

It's definitely a generational thing. I can recall 2, maybe 3 seasons in my lifetime as a football fan that the Commanders even made the playoffs, and they've gone winless each time. Most of the old timers despise the Commanders, and for good reason. Glad I wasn't alive when they ousted us from the NFC Championship in the 70s and 80s.

As a 28 year old, my hatred of the Giants and Eagles runs deeper because I've watched them both have immense success while my Cowboys remain casually mediocre.

division rivalries never die. They surge and subside but never die. Late 70's early 80's my top 3 most hated were the Skins, Steelers and then Eagles. Eagles moved up to 2nd with the arrival of Dick Vermeil and Jaws. I loved watching them get smacked in the Super Bowl. They moved up to #1 in the 90's with Cunningham and Buddy Ryan (who took his fat rear end into the locker room). Right now they are #1 because their fans are still cocky over finally winning their first. Skins are still top 3. Love seeing little Danny's team continue to flop.

I gotta tell ya, for sheer energy and getting me fired up, that camera shot of the stands in the old RFK with the cameras jumping all over the place and those four Hog fans was the best shot in all of my football watching days. Those fans were aware that every time the Cowboys would play there, that shot would start the game and they stomped extra hard to make those cameras bounce.

I can recall a lot of Cowboys saying their first trip to RFK was a little scary with the stands right on the field and the noise level was the highest of the year when the Cowboys came to town. More than one player said they wished their fans were that crazy.

And our most beloved fan of all time, Crazy Ray, loved him some Skins games and he'd go all out for those games.

I also think the Cowboys-Skins rivalry is one of the reasons for the popularity of the NFL and I remember Merlin Olsen and Dick Enberg saying their biggest regret was not getting to do a Cowboys-Skins game, particularly at RFK. There was an energy level in the DC area that no other game could rival. And that was the game of the season that was most requested by the politicians, it was a happening and the first of it's kind in the NFL.

Yeah it’s hilarious. Snyder’s been trying to get a new one built for ages but keeps gunning for locations that the host city would never approve.

For example he tried getting approval for old RFK but they declined him. He needs a stadium bad too if he wants to rejuvenate the fanbase.

Haha, I don't doubt it. Most teams try to upside their stadiums when renovating it. The Commanders, as always, do the exact opposite. Nobody will expect it.

No...they are a worse version of us. I kid you not when they were 6-3 last year I coulda cared less they shoot themselves in the foot or have injuries so much they aren’t worth caring about

Their fans are EXTREAMY annoying tho

If it wasn’t for the fans who treat every first down like it’s a game winning touchdown I wouldn’t mind them...they have players I like on that team and their uniforms are cool

But Commanders fans will always see us as a rival they let off fireworks for one week when they beat dallas
Their Helmet decal absolutely frickin' rocks the fire lit lodge,,,I'll freely grant them that:)

i was born in 86 so I have no memory of the Commanders hay day in the late 80s/early 90s.

They’ve never been good the same year as Dallas has that I remember. Always a 4-6 seed on the few years they did get in.

So I have no hatred towards them. Philly and the Giants on the other hand are a different story. As are GB and SF from the time in the 90s and Rodgers this decade.

Another team who I don’t have any care towards are the Steelers. The one meaningful game the two teams have played I remember was a 2nd half route in SB XXX

I'm a few years older, but I don't think the Commanders are a big rivalry any more. But may also depend on the area you live. I live outside Philadelphia and work in central New Jersey so Eagles and Giants are much bigger rivals for me.

I'm 28, and besides being division games, I wouldn't call it a "rivalry".

I get the most enjoyment from beating the Giants (I'm from NY)

But I would say our biggest rivalry has been the eagles, and maybe throw in the packers.

It really goes back to 1959 and Clint Muchison holding the Commanders fight song hostage as a way to gain their support for getting a nfl team in Dallas.
It really took off with the hiring of George Allen around 1970.

keep livin' dude - before you know it you'll feel the same way about the Skins as the vets

IMO, it's in the water out there - have you noticed everyone who moves to DC becomes increasingly criminal minded?

Someone mentioned the 2006 game when we lost to the Skins 22-19 after Romo drove the Cowboys into field goal range only for the field goal kick to be blocked and lead to a Skins field goal - what a brutal loss!!!

I'm 52 and remember times of intense rivalry with not only Washington, New York, Philly, but the Cardinals as well. Of them all though I've always disliked Philly the most

And not to mention that we were hosed by a bogus 15 yard facemask call. At the time, a 5 yard facemask was an option if the defender grabbed and let go, which is EXACTLY what happened. Yet, they called the 15 yard variety.

His facemask turned Sean Taylor's head to the left...that means 15 yd penalty.

"Penalty: Incidental grasping of the mask -- five yards. Not a personal foul (if by the defense there is no automatic first down). Twisting, turning, or pulling the mask -- 15 yards. A personal foul."
