Twitter: We forget, selecting Zeke 4th overall was more about Romo, not Dak

Romo played virtually his whole career with a one dimensional offense with the exception of 2014 when he had Demarco healthy for the whole year. If not for Murray’s critical fumble in the playoff game against Green Bay which most people forget about, they might have went all the way. Tony’s injury against Seattle in the preseason (2016), ruined what should’ve been a certain SB run that year. Dak did a great job as a rookie but his flaws were already starting to show about mid season. Zeke and the Oline were the reason we had the success that we had that year. When Tony was healthy they should’ve put him back in. The early playoff exit was predictable

Romo could have put up 50 on that Packer defense if need be. Most any team could have. They were missing everybody.

Romo played a weaker Packers defense in 2014 in the playoffs. How many point did they score?

21, but yet he would have put up at least 50 according to you?

Sit down kid. this is a conversation for grown ups

In case you're not capable of reading between the lines, this was in reference to postseason success. Sorry for the confusion.
I don't care about regular season stats.
In case your not capable of reading , that was highest QB rating in a PLAYOFF game to lose!

You said he did not do anything - just refuting that claim!
Some fans are Super Bowl or Bust mentality . In other words if your not playing for championships even if your a Pro Bowl talent it’s been a wasted effort.

That’s means about 25% of the NFL HOFamers had a wasted career.

If that’s how they feel , fine. Fortunately the NFL and most fans aren’t held to the same standard.

Regular season stats and records do matter. Without them you don’t provide yourself or team a greater opportunity to advance. It also allows us to separate greater talent from lesser teams and lesser talent from greater teams. But it takes a deeper look and evaluation than most casual fans are willing to invest.

Which is what these boards are all about...
Yea.. kinda reminds me of our differences in social issues. If you don’t agree with their opinions and beliefs you’re an evil person.

Shame we can’t offer our differing opinions without personal attacks and insults. The divide and conquer still persist.

There used to be a time when we respected different perspectives with everyone looking for common ground and solution. Those days appear to be gone.

What a shame we never fielded that 2014 offense again. Arguably the best we’ve fielded since the 90’s.

Don't make a quote that is false and then try to justify it - you have been wrong this whole exchange -just admit it and move on!
Losing a game, even though one player is propped up for playing well (in one stat) is not success. Sorry.

I honestly always thought it was more about Bosa being taken by the Chargers just before that.

2014 offense:
5th in yards, 7th in points, 6th in yards per drive, 2nd in points per drive and had the 12th most turnovers with the 9th best starting field position

2016 offense:
5th in yards, 5th in points, 4th in yards per drive, 4th in point per drive and had the 5th least turnovers and only the 15th best starting field position

We literally had a better offense two years later

Kinda forgot about that until reading this tweet from Helman. Ideally, he was going be a younger, cheaper, more extended version of 2014 DeMarco Murray. Making life easier for Romo.....

Well, it couldn't have been about Dak, who wasn't even drafted yet.

I do think it was about cashing in on a dominant oline. They saw the fruits in 2014 and wanted more that.

2014 averaged 29.2 ppg
2016 averaged 26.3 ppg

2014 averaged 384 yards per game
2016 averaged 378 yards per game

Both were good but 2014 did average more points by a decent margin and slightly more yards.
That 2016 line was a bit better though, but both good.

Hawk. Was Romo going to score more than 31 points?
That's not to mention that we would then have to play that team that killed the Packers by 23 points. Then beat the team that beat that team in the Super Bowl.
Legit question.
He did go through his last playoff run with no turnovers and a 126 QB rating, and had grown light years in that category...so maybe he doesn't throw the disastrous redzone pick that Dak had. But actually Dak played well overall.

To say they for sure win the game with Tony, let alone go all the way, is a real stretch.
The 2016 defense was better, but not nearly what they are now.

You also have to factor in that the 2014 defense score three more touchdowns than the 2016 defense.

The 2014 defense also forced 10 more turnovers than the 2016 defense. And turnovers have a major impact on a teams ability to score points.

So when you factor that in, yeah the 2016 offense was just as good at scoring as the 2014 offense.

Now, yes Tony Romo in his prime was better than Dak has been so far. No argument from me there. But The games Romo did play in 2015 weren’t nearly as good as 2014 and he was coming off major injuries. Nobody knows for sure that you would get 2014 level Romo if he started in 2016.

Wait so the entire NFL took that big of an offensive step back in 2016? Are you sure DFW? Seems crazy that they ranked higher amongst the league yet averaged 3 points per game less? That's a big step back.

Yeah, I looked it up because I thought 2014 was one of highest scoring teams ever. Also I thinkyou had their ranking off on scoring. They were 5th in 2014 at 29.2ppg (0.8 behind 1st place) and 5th in 2016 (7.5ppg behind)

Both offenses where great though

Yeah,QCE, he did.

Dallas had a great drive going with 7 minutes to go in the 3rd. We had 2nd and 1 on Green Bay 19 yard line. Dak threw a screen to Beasley that was picked and returned 18 yards.
