I haven't watched all of Stranger Things seasons 3 yet, but I was like "waaaaiiiiittt... 9-1-1 wasn't a thing everywhere yet. Heck, in 1989 only 50% or so of the country had access." But then I looked it up. Huntington Indiana implemented it in 1968 and it spread slowly in that area (other states also started that early.) That surprised me. And looking it up, 9-1-1 STILL isn't universal. It's close though.
OK, only a nerd that can't chill out would be looking that stuff up.

Speaking of getting nerdy, and I was, think the Huffer Brothers were playing a little with Hawkins, Indiana being too much like Haddonfield, Illinois? Towns that start with a H and arein states that start with an I can only mean one thing, HI, I am a monster.

The rule in making movies like this is that if you make up the town, like Hawkins, rules do not apply. Like having the emergency number for Demogorgons in the Upside Down 1-1-9.

I never claimed I was otherwise, my friend....but then, I would say that if I were infiltrating or something... but that's silly. I'm just being me.

It does seem (of the couple of episodes I've watched so far) that the writing is different in Season 3.

Finished it last night and it did improve but the writers and directors find adolescents a lot more charming and entertaining than I do. However, they did introduce one new character that's a little scene stealer, the chick that worked at the ice cream shop.

This show is aptly named and they don't have to explain strange or stranger things, the fact that their stranger lets you know you're not getting a full explanation. Strangers things just have to be accepted for what they are, stranger than strange.

That’s the daughter of Ethan Hawke and Uma Thurman.

Stranger Things 3 is another billionth example of entertainment viewers enjoy differently. I loved it from the first episode.

This was the third time everyone got to see L & Gang and the show remained true to its core, which are the kids. Their growth towards adulthood, which I enjoyed seeing, is evident:
  • An amazingly powerful young woman, who had one of the bleakest childhoods imaginable, now learning about companion love
  • Boys emotionally wrestle with what feels great or awful about maturing
  • Girls bonding and discovering their own unique friendship
  • A young couple in love finding out the highs and lows an relationship brings
  • The pitfalls of a young woman's ambition
  • Uncovering a different character layer of a super brat :p
  • A young man, seemingly always unlucky at love, still showing the best aspects of humanity despite constantly getting kicked in the gut
  • A young woman's hidden anguish slowly comes to light and seeing her perserverance
Do not forget the adults, although I think they were a bit weaker in character depth this time around. Grown-up drama and comedy still centered on Hopper and Joyce though. I found myself both irritated and rooting (hard) for them. It made the climax of episode 8 a little bit difficult to take. Of should it have been..?

"No. Not the American." Love this show!

Yeah. The monster remains the object of chills yet again. This other dimensional being is truly relentless. I cannot wait to see how it and the storyline evolves OUTSIDE OF Hawkins, Indiana.

It is easy to see why this is true:

Come on season 4. :D Even though it is likely the final season. :(

The ending was/wasn't surprising. I thought Upside Down would be the landing spot.

TBH, I think the monster was kinda lame looking, like it was the incarnation of a child's drawing.....unless that's the ultimate reveal.

I am not sure the Upside Down was involved. I am thinking more of one of the Russians coming through a side door, not stopping to gawk at all what was happening, and doing a kidnapping.

I thought it looked great. They kept the basic look of the smokey figure Will kept seeing in the first two seasons but reduced it in size.

I don't know, I just thought it looked like it has no bone or muscle structure, which makes it look very implausible. That may be just my opinion, but when I draw or paint something, I like to make it look possible. For instance, if I draw a dragon, I try to make the wings large enough to actually be useful for flight, with the body's weight balanced between them. I'm kind of picky about things like that, I guess.

I agree when you put it that way but the Mind Flayer is from a dimension outside our own. It brought it own abilities of manipulating matter and energy into this reality defying physics laws. It's manufactured body structure can only mimic head, limbs, torso, etc. And its abilities hold its body composition together, provides movement and physical strength without need of skeletal or muscle mass. That is good science fiction imagination in my opinion.

Let's keep this thread on topic instead of hijacking it for other shows!

If you want to discuss other shows create a new thread for them or create a new tv show thread where all shows can be discussed.

My favorite season so far.

Only thing that had me scratching my head is why Hopper has been turned up to 11. He's almost a cartoon character this season.

I enjoyed Season 3. I think it was a little bit too much on the nose with all the 80s references and nostalgia.

I actually like enjoyed watching Steve and Robin’s interaction more then the younger kids. I could have done with less of the kissing scenes with the younger cast.

Jeez Louise, it's getting where a man can't postjack his own thread. I only do it to showcase that "well, if he'll do it to himself, I don't feel targeted".

Man, oh man, how do you stop that "one thought leads to another"?

It's simple .. just make a new thread about your new thought.

You never know which topics will take off and sometimes a good discussion can be hijacked by a better one causing the title/topic of the thread that brings new readers and posters into it actually being about something else.

Imagine you sit down to watch a Cowboys game on national TV but your local network decided to show another game because they think its more interesting to them now.

Sometimes users assume that because they have read two pages of a thread that everyone has read two pages of a thread, but that's rarely the case, especially in the Off-topic Zone forum.

For example, someone may be planning to watch Stranger Things next week so they do not read this thread until then to avoid spoilers. Then, after they watch it, they come to this thread to discuss it to only find out that despite the topic of the thread being "Stranger Things", the thread is no longer talking about Stranger Things at all, but rather another TV show they have no interest in.

That's the reason we (and most forum sites) crack down on thread hijacking. The whole point of forums is organized topic-based discussions where you can read the thread titles and participate in the threads you are interested in and skip the ones you care nothing about.

In any case, put more thought into your thread titles. If you want to discuss several TV shows, create or post in an existing thread with a title like, "TV Shows you are watching right now" or "Favorite TV Shows" and then you can jump from show to show without any issues. There have been several threads like this posted over the years.

If you want to talk about one TV show and only that show, put the show title in the thread.

Why wouldn't he be turned up to 11? After living through the experiences of the first two seasons, it makes sense. I'd be on edge. Then also having to deal with a teenager. That alone is a difficult task, but add in her powers. It would make most people cartoonish. Begs the question as to why didn't he move away.

The bold, what's the limit on threads here?

There is no hard limit, but make no mistake, there is a limit, especially in a short time frame, where if the staff or (and this is more likely) the users notice you creating several threads, they will get reported and likely merged or removed.

If you have a lot of topics you want to discuss, either space new threads out over several days/weeks, or create more generalized thread titles/topics where you can discuss multiple related topics in fewer threads.

Now, if there is enough demand for a variety of subtopic discussions in the same general topic (ex: tv shows, bands, movies, etc.), then I am more than willing to consider creating new forums for those topics.

The demand would have to be there and there would need to be several (or a lot) of users interested in and willing to post in those kinds of threads.

In the past, when these situations have happened, I tried creating new general topic forums (Gaming Zone, Movie Zone, etc.) only to see them rarely used by more than 2 or 3 users.

In most cases, it's just better (and easier) to create a single thread with a general title/topic such as "Movies you have seen lately" or "What books are you reading" rather than make a new thread about each one.

More importantly, most users are more likely to read and post in general topic threads like that unless the subtopic (specific movie, tv show, music group/band/singer, etc.) is very popular with the users here (ex: Walking Dead, Game of Thrones, Avengers movies, etc.).
