Agree. This post is just stupid. Tank the season? How the hell do you do that with this roster? Even the idiot Garrett will win 7-8 games without Dak.

Lawrence for sure is going to be great. Best freshman QB I ever saw. By a lot. What he did vs Bama was borderline legendary.
I think this idea is in the fantasy world about getting Lawrence but that being said Garrett doesn't win games without a franchise QB. Can't remember how many games Kitna won but as interim HC Garrett went 5-3 but other than that without Dak or Romo Garrett has managed 1 win. It's brutal, not exact in the numbers but it's like 1-13 or something like that. Without Dak I find it hard to believe Garrett wins 7-8 games.

Either way, I don't see Garrett as HC without a Superbowl win by 2021 anyways.

7-9 is nothing to brag about it. Think about this...Cowboys that have made or are at Pro Bowl level:

Smith
Smith
Beard
Martin
Lawrence
Zeke
Jones
Cooper
Witten
LVE
Lee
Quinn
Cobb
Gregory

There is a ton of talent. Take Dak out and the season tanks but even that clueless HC could win a few with that roster.

Great question. I would fire JG and promote Marinelli to head coach. He already has a 0-16 season on his resume. I would then sign Jamarcus Russell to be the starting QB. This elite head coach/QB tank combination would ensure the 1st pick in the 2021 draft.

Rookie Andrew Luck led his team to an impressive 11-5 record and a playoff berth. The team finished 2-14 the previous season.
What makes Luck so impressive is he led the Colts to 3 straight 11-5 seasons with no running game.

Lawrence is a generational talent. Having him on a rookie deal plus retaining all the young studs we have will ensure a dynasty.

How about we wait and see how he does in the next few years first to see.
Archie griffin a 2 time Heisman winner was considered a generational talent to. He didn't do much in the NFL like so many Heisman winners.

Let Dak play out his rookie deal this upcoming season. Then use the franchise tag on him and trade him for draft picks in the 2021 draft. Just tank the entire 2020 season and draft Trevor Lawrence. We will have a dynasty with Lawrence on a cost controlled rookie deal for 5 years. We can also re-sign all of our young studs. I think the Cowboys would win at least 3 Super Bowls if they are fortunate enough to avoid major injuries.

You should walk into the Cowboys offices and tell the men your plans to tank a season.

The way things are playing out it will probably be the Commanders who end up that bad to draft Lawrence.

My bet would go to one of the AFC East trash teams. I think he'll be a Dolphin.

Then why is it ok in the NBA? NBA teams tank all the time. In the NBA there is no guarantee to land the 1st pick since it's a lottery. In the NFL tanking will directly lead to the 1st pick in the draft.

But aren't those NBA teams also garbage? How many times does a talented team in the NBA tank? Instead of tanking the Cowboys would have to trade up. And trading up that high would cost a fortune. The guy better not be a bust.

Consider the OPs idea but switch tanking for trading up. Dak still has his chance over the next two seasons. It's not a terrible idea. Just risky and comes at a high cost. It's also not going to happen.

Kitna won 5 games for Garrett. In Garrett's defense, and I can't believe I am saying that, Garrett had a lot of bums at QB beside Dak and Romo. Kitna was at the end of his career, but he was still a decent QB. I thought he played better for us with that poor team and under those circumstances than say, Bledsoe ever did.

I’m not so sure that Pat Mahomes is Pat Mahomes without Andy Reid coaching him. So many factors go into a guy being great.

Mahomes would be a good player just about anywhere... but Andy made him an MVP.

Truth. But Andy is also the reason Mahomes may not win a SB. Captain Kool Aid Man teams always have a fatal flaw:

Forgetting the run game
Ignoring Defense
Lack of physicality
Roster Mismanagement

His teams always, always, always choke.

Garrett has the same problem, but in opposite areas:

Preparation
Adjustments in game
Personnel mis-use
Overly conservative

That's Dak cooking $100 bills, laughing at the thought that Trevor Lawrence will ever sniff his success.

I wouldn't trade Dak for him straight up. He's soft. He'll end up just like Bobby Carpenter.

Give me Dak all day, every day.

What happens if Dak helps take this team to a SB this year..
The other guy ensured a dynasty. So, I guess you let your Superbowl winning QB go and hope you can trade from 32nd to 1st to draft a guy that someone on an internet discussion board says is generational talent. What could possibly go wrong?

The Dallas Cowboys, America's Team, tanking a season to draft a player. Wouldn't that make some really juicy stories for the media and let's not forget the NFL. Since Goodell has the power, what do you think he'd do a team purposefully losing? Think he'd let them draft that QB? I think he'd make them forfeit that pick and maybe more for the embarrassment of the NFL.

And what about those fans buying tickets during that tanking season, think they'd be happy? How about fans that are in their last season? Think that's how they like to spend their last Cowboys season?
The penalty would end up being your 1st round pick...and much more.

LOL they aren't tanking for Lawrence. This team is primed to win now. Plus they'll have to pay or release so of the young guys by the time Lawrence got to Dallas (if there was a chance).
