With camp starting next week the 2 rookies I have the most excitement and curiousness about is Hill and Pollard.

There has been a lot of talk about the impact of Hill. Read an article on him being the Dark Horse to win defensive rookie of the year. Of course Rod loves him and Kris passed on secondary help because of what he thought of him. In our scheme could he potentially be the next Sapp?

If Pollard can do some of the things he was asked to do at Memphis as a runner and a receiver he could have major impact on offense. With Zeke being the horse he would have to show impact as a receiver but also be respected as a runner to keep defenses honest. The question is can Kellen be creative enough to use him so he can have that Kamara type of impact?

That would be crazy if Zeke was the 2nd best RB on the roster, but nah this isn't happening.

Pollard was a major reach, and more likely to be out of the league in four years than to be on Kamara's level.

Sapp was 6th in Heisman voting, Hill had 6 sacks in his whole college career.

Pollard as a specialty player could have a big impact on winning but not have big stats.

Kamara has 120 rush attempts and 100 targets as a receiver in his rookie season (2017).

Kamara was a starter in 2018.

Pollard is not going to get those types of opportunities unless Zeke is out for the season.

Pollard likely get some snaps as a true WR but that won't result in a large number of targets either.\


There is no limit for Hill. He'll likely be one of the two primary 3-tech DTs.

Marinelli would like to have the top 3 DTs all play close to 60% of the snaps.

Depending on the specific players the two 3-techs might be 70% and 50%.

The top 1-tech will be around 60%. That varies based to some extent based on how much the opponent runs vs passes.

I keep hearing that we have one of the best rosters heading into the 2019 season. We definitely need some push and attack up the middle of our d line. We have some very fluid LB's and if we can deter teams from running up the middle, we should be able to have a pretty good run stopping defense. Also, we might be able to let Crawford walk to save on cap space and improve overall talent. I really hope that Pollard is the real deal. Austin has been as advertised. Hurt most of the time, with a few splash plays that usually result in yet another injury. It would be nice to part ways with his contract as well. He is certainly NOT earning it.

I get that he was valued as a run stuffer with pass rushing potential in the draft and he was a good pick with the 2nd round grade, but what is with all this praise for a situational player? The most solo tackles he ever had in a single season in college is 20. For a 310lb tackle.... 20 in 12 games. The most solo tackles he's EVER had in a game in his entire career was 3. Really take that in. He's never been a guy who plays an entire series, but he is a guy who won't get put in for an entire series. As a star on his college team.

And he's going to win rookie of the year... how? because you'll give him 40+ defensive snaps a game when he didn't even get that in college? He'll get double digit sacks to double his entire 3-year college total?

No and no. Warren Sapp was invited to New York for the Heisman. Stop with the hyperbole Hill's not in the same zipcode. Warren is the greatest 3-Tech of all time and at the very least the past 25 years.

a lot of if and butts and hope lol..not one snap yet in live game let alone real game

tap the breaks

For all those that want to get rid of preseason and have 18games you think you would even see these guys much at all? would they ever have proven ground to earn a rotational or starting spot?i mean they arent allowed much hitting in practice, hardly anything in scrimmage and only way for the young guys to get noticed is preseason..

something to think about..

We have had the leading rusher in three of the last five seasons, yet Garret doesnt know how to use RBs?

Okay.

Kamara would succeed anywhere.

What about Larry Allen Jr?

Might as well pencil him in as Larry Allen next to Warren Sapp and Alvin Kamara since we're looking for more HOFer's and Pro Bowlers on this team.

Neither will get enough plays this season, that might change down the road but Hill will be in the rotation until he proves he can get the same plays that Sapp used to get.

Pollard is an interesting player but happens to be on the wrong team to get much light shining on him because this is a team that likes to get the name players on the field for max exposure, see Witten and Elliott. If Elliott didn't tap himself out, I don't know if we'd know who the backup is.
