Especially a week after he got lucky and avoided a suspension. Self awareness is not one of his strengths.
I would extend old boy, but there would some serious clauses in that contract for both on and off the field performance.

I would start with:
The party of the first part shall be known from this point as the party of the first part.

Then we can commence the line tearing of the contract.

Zeke is worth more to Dallas than other teams so trading him wouldn't provide enough return. Most of the teams that believe in a bell-cow running back approach already have one.

As for teaching young players to honor their contract, I'd agree except owners don't honor them so why should players?

Dak wants to be among the highest paid at his position.
Amari wants to be the highest paid at his position.
Demarcus IS among the highest paid at his position.
Tyron, Fredbeard and Zack ARE among the highest paid at their positions.

You have Jaylon and LVE coming up. Byron Jones?

Can you pay everybody? RB is the easiest position to replace. Heavily used RB's tend to fall off a cliff sooner than other positions.

You can make a case to move Zeke. But like any trade, compensation is everything.

Perhaps so. If it works out better signing him now to an extension then I hope they do it. I just get irritated when I see how people can't just honor their commitments. It is like that quality is all but gone.
It's not necessarily that players aren't honoring their deals. Sometimes it's best for the team. Leveon bell honored his deal then refused the franchise tag. Definitely a double edged sword.

I think you're exactly right. It's easy for someone to say "trade him!", it's quite something else to give "to who?" and "for what?"

That shuts them up right away.

I say no to trading Zeke if he decides to hold out.

If he doesn't show up to camp, the Cowboys should either sign Jay Ajayi or trade for Duke Johnson; and then play hardball with Zeke if they want. He's not going to play much (or at all) in the preseason anyway, so there will be time to get a deal done.

Contracts mean little these days in the NFL. Value and leverage are what move the needle.

Zeke Should get paid, in order to do that OL needs to restructure their contracts.
Dak will take a slightly team friendly deal that will help sign Cooper.

#Teamwork.

Zeke deserves to be paid the most out of anyone in football at that position.

If Dallas can trade him for a first rounder I do it though.

He's about got himself suspended out of the league if he gets in serious trouble again, he's a RB so injury risk is always high, and he's wanting a ton of money and just about anyone but the Cowboys can get production from that position without using a ton of money.

I'm all for keeping Zeke but if a team wants to part with a 1st then i'd do it.

The Raiders. Mayock would give us 3 firsts, 2 seconds and a third for him.

I've said all along that if we can get a 1st rounder for him then trade him. If not then just keep him.
Love your idea, bloke, but I am not sure we'd get a 1st rounder.
More likely, a 2nd and a 4th. Not a deal I would like.

Colin is right here. The track record of signing running backs to big second contracts is pretty terrible.

I would much rather keep Byron Jones over Ezekiel Elliott. If to keep Jones we have to trade Elliott I'd do it in a second, even if you couldn't get a 1.

Pay him AFTER his contract is up. Teach these young men to honor their word and commitments. Allowing these delusional kids to break agreements further stunts their maturity.

Zeke held up his side of the deal.

2 rushing titles in 3 seasons.

Hes only making 3.8 mil.

If we had him for 4 years after his 5th year option, that's 9 years, and history shows us that years 8 and 9 will start showing the wear and tear.

If we had him for 4 more years right now, then that's a total of 7 years under contract, and his deal expires when his best years are already behind him.

Extending him 2 more years right now does have a certain logic to it. It's cheaper now than in 2021, and we're perfectly situated to make a decision on him just as he starts rounding the corner on his age.
