I do wonder what we would have done in 2018 if we had acquired Earl Thomas. Thomas had always played the deeper safety spot, so I'm not sure if we would have tried Woods at strong safety or if Heath would have held on to that job and Woods would have been a reserve.
That would have been incredibly dumb. Woods is a superior player to Heath in every way. He is entirely capable of being a SS.

Except it's really just a puff piece. Remember how good the Cowboys were feeling going into training camp 2017? Then Zeke got suspended, Dak regressed, and the defense was crap.

Truth is once you start feeling yourself in the NFL that's when the trouble begins.

Every team feels this way about themselves at this time of the year.

I don't know if he is. He's 5-11 and barely over 200, so we'd just be putting another undersized, cover guy at a run-stopping spot. At 6-1, 212, Heath has slightly better size to play strong safety, but just doesn't have the acumen. Both guys love to deliver a pop, but being an SS takes more than that.

I feel that Woods at SS would have been a lot like placing Byron Jones there. However, I do believe if we had acquired Thomas, we at least would have let Woods and Heath compete for the starting SS job. And maybe he would have lived up to your belief.

Another Mickey Article. But I am sure the usuals will spew their crap for no reason.

Nice comparison of going into last year TC to this year TC.

Pretty decent article. Better than the one I remember that prefaced the start of the 1999 season, (or was it the 2000 season?) when Mickey was chattering about how awesome we were going to be with an aging Aikman, Emmitt, and Irvin, and how it eerily felt like 1993 all over again.

Boy was that a debacle!

The one thing he failed to mention in this read was how the offense will look now that Kellen replaces Linehan as OC. This change to the coaching staff is the biggest question mark that could prove to be the biggest move of the off-season.

You are really overthinking this.

At safety in today's league, coverage is at a premium and if the player can fill on the run, all the better. Woods could handle either assignment.

Whatever advantages Heath has due to size is washed out in the things that matter.

I'm laying on one of those plastic chairs that lays back while sipping on a 32 ounce martini through a straw while nodding in agreement to this post.

Mmmm...

Mickey would be the guy to know if there is a difference to the team reporting to camp this season. He's been wittness to the team reporting to camp for the last 3 decades.

If the primary problem our strong safety, whether it be Byron Jones or Heath, has been having is run support, I can't just buy into putting Woods there automatically making run support better. You are speculating in that area just like some felt we would be perfectly fine with Heath taking over at SS for Church. That role is different than playing FS. The SS has to play a lot closer to the line, recognize run and go fill the right hole fighting through blocks and traffic. He has more contain and fill responsibilities than the free safety, playing a lot more underneath coverage while the FS is over the top.

If you don't think those run responsibilities matter, you end with players like Heath in the role because of his ability against the pass. If you put too much emphasis on run responsibilities, you end up with a player like Church there. The ideal, of course, is a balance, but I don't see Woods being a balance between those two. I think he's strictly a free safety in the coverage schemes we favor. I could be wrong, but that's what I see.

Spagnola...like I said earlier anytime a fan or host criticizes Dallas he just yells in his annoying voice "WELL WHAT WOULD YOU DO?!". Hasn't he been around since like the 80s? He needs to go.

Every year Mickey pumps the Cowboys up. I bet he had us as a Super Bowl team during the Campo era. I just bought the training camp magazine and there is a whole 5 page article of him doing just that. Will probably use it as toilet paper. Last year his reason for Garrett being an elite coach? Tom Landry won a Super Bowl in his 12th year with the team. 2018 was Garrett's 12th year with the team..LOL what a joke.

its "pump up the team time" to sell merchandise and get the base ready to give money over, nothing more, nothing we havent heard year in and year out.

Pretty sure you already know how he feels about Kellen Moore as OC.

Pretty sure the Dolphins know they are going to blow chunks this season.

this season might go bad for us that we actually have a slim chance watching the Browns out pace us. So, if im the Dolphins im sitting prettier than the Cowboys who have tried so hard for less.
