Probably just a wood spider. The nastiest spider I ever saw was in the log house I grew up in. I don't know what kind it was, and I've never seen one since. It was hanging out on the curtain in the living room. It was about four inches long and translucent orange, so I thought it was a rubber spider someone put there, but when my fingers got just a few inches away, it scurried off behind the furniture. Freaked me out for days!
I don't know if it had wood or not but if it did, add one more reason to run. When it comes to that, you can add homophobic to arachnophobic.

Morning Pops and welcome to your Monday walkers, freezer bandits and bug bait from the weekend. Mercy me, after the weekend y'all had, work must be a relief.

Speaking of bugs, and several of us were, if you didn't participate you have no one to blame but yourself. I may have mentioned this but I am borderline an arachnophobic, and don't care much for spiders either, and a couple of years ago when I was thinking about buying a house down here, and thankfully did not, one of the coolest houses I saw was off by itself and backed up to some woods, there were about 15 deer grazing, with a lookout established for murderers in orange vests, and it was like being in "Bambi".

Well, the more I thought about this house with a very cool covered patio with outdoor kitchen, fireplace, 50" mounted flat screen and completely furnished, the more I could see me there every Sat and Sun in the season. What I didn't see was what was lurking in the brick firewood storage area next to the fireplace until I returned and started planning the placement of my outdoor cooking apparatus.....and myself every weekend.

I went down the steps to check out this hot tub pad, turned to come back up the stairs and just happened to glance at the woodbin and there it was. I froze in mid step and immediately channeled the little fly, with the human head in "The Fly", and began to whimper "help me, help me, heeeelllllpppp mmmmmeeeeeeee!

There, not moving and I figured if it wasn't I wasn't either, was the largest non tarantula I have ever seen. It was easily as big as my hand, if I could have stretched my fingers out instead of my hands being balled into fists and my face frozen in a silent scream. I didn't know if it was dead or alive but if it was dead, I was terrified of the zombie apocalypse assuming that would be the first thing to come back. I backed down the stairs, never taking my eyes off the beast, and I stumbled on a step and caught myself but immediately surmised it had seen me. It had waited in it's lair for some unsuspecting house hunter to show up and had probably killed and eaten the people who'd lived here before and God knows how many realtors.

So since I was stumbling down, the right direction to escape certain doom, I just kept going as fast as my bad hip could carry me, now concerned that if it saw me limping it would surmise I was easy prey. I hauled butt to my car, jumped in, cranked it and left like I was cashing a Powerball winning ticket.

That night the realtor was supposed to call me for an answer about making an offer. I sat there in the dark, watching the phone in silence and thinking about leaving a voicemail that I had decided to move out of the country. That, was the last house I looked at and decided being a homeowner was too hazardous as I never heard of renters being killed and eaten by a giant spider.
My daughter had those in the house in Jacksonville FL. They called them wolf spiders. I dare say it kept me from offering to sleep on the floor. She swore they chased her through the house. A bit dramatic,... or maybe not. Spiders have their place I suppose. I prefer them squished.

Morning Pops. Morning Fellas and good morning to all who decided to start their work week off by visiting this thread.

Got some bad news this weekend, one of my Uncles passed. Fighting Cancer for over a year, finally lost to it. I think it's better, he was a strong person, the kind that looked like he was 45 at 65, still worked the Cattle, was just one of those guys, you know? Towards the end there, he was not looking like himself and I'm glad that he is now out of pain. Gonna be busy the next couple days thou. Damn Cancer man, it's gunning for us all.

Jobs, Leon, dbrp, Xelda, zrin, Trouty, ksk, RGV, Coach, RWB, Ranching, SW, John, Jan, Corso and Colo, hope you all had a great weekend.

Everybody, call the people you love and tell them so, cause you just never know.
lost my dad to lung cancer... which metastasized to a few other places. I'm sorry for your loss. Cancer is a beast that should've been conquered by now were it not for the deep pockets... My thoughts and prayers are with you all.

Afternoon Pops and friends. So sorry to hear about your uncle, ABQ.

We're supposedly having cooler weather. At noon it was 90 something with a real feel of 100 something. I want to finish my yard work, but my war wound hasn't begun to heal. I keep bumping it into things. Oh well, extended breaks from yard work never came close to killing me.

Meanwhile in the kitchen, I had most of a garlic bulb drying up, so I peeled it and put it in a large jar of olives. It really put some zippidy doo dah on them. So I added coarse ground black pepper. Not as impressive as the garlic, but still good. I've got three newer garlic bulbs and the pickles seem to be asking for it. I simply cannot be trusted in the kitchen because of the 20 plus spices at my disposal and when all else fails, plenty of drive throughs.
That’s about 5 miles X! Minus the peppermint patties should be 4.9  Way to Go!
You are very kind, RGV. I didn't abuse my freezer privileges, so maybe .1 mile is close to accurate.

HAH! Good one, DABZ! Looks like her first time in a thong and it's not going towards the light.

Wonderful and heart warming story, Coach! Several years ago, I was trimming those blasted bushes and something caught my eye. It was a very large spider on a very large web over my head. It turned it's body with my every move. I no longer felt safe trimming those bushes. They were on the side of the house anyway. I told the spider it could have that side of the house, but I expected it to pay rent. I'm not scared of spiders but this one had my attention. I don't think a Kleenex box could have killed that one.

That's a watchspider, CC. He's there to protect you from home invasions.
I think it was there to protect the home from Coach.

Be safe and stay out of the heat if you can.

Good morning Pops and friends.

Last October at my mom’s, I was awakened in the middle of the night out of a dead sleep. I felt something on my left forearm. In a move that would have impressed Bruce Lee, I quickly grabbed it off my arm and flung it toward the foot of the bed against a closet door. I turned on the light to see what it was. With a piece of paper I picked up a wounded spider off the floor. I took it to the restroom so I could get a closer look. It had the violin mark on its back. Yep it was a brown recluse. I wrapped it up good in toilet paper and gave it a good squeeze then sent it off in a ceremonial flush. Needless to say, the rest of the night I was a very light sleeper. The following day I sprayed the rooms and outside of the house good. Since then no problems but I do have flashbacks

My wife's cousin was bitten on the stomach by one and had to have two skin grafts and I was anti spider before that but that made me a crusader for their demise. I see a web, bye bye. I've taken so many out, I was voted Man of the Year by The North American Organization of Flies.

My wife got bit in the leg a few years back. The Dr cut out the affected part and a little more, about the size of a dime.
It took a few weeks of packing it with gauze and changing the bandage daily but it did heal from inside out. My wife went to the Dr the day after bitten so the damage wasn’t as severe as some of the images on the internet.

OMG that happened to me just last night... but it wasn't a spider. Some other creepy crawly. We had a water main break at the corner of my block yesterday and I'm pretty sure the stupid thing thought the river was coming up again and made a break for higher ground. Mistake was to wake me before midnight. I dispatched with it after I was done with my little spazzy-jumping-up-and-down cussing and carrying on... I did not go back to bed. Instead, I sat awake in the recliner until I accidentally fell asleep between 2:30 and 3:00 a.m.

Folks... it's gonna be a looonng day!

Make it a good one.

Afternoon Pops and friends. These new spider stories aren't sitting well with me. It makes me want to do things like fog the house. The only problem is I'd have to take my dogs and loiter at Sonic the way those two guys do. I don't want to end up in a Sonic commercial either unless they pay me in onion rings.

I was with you in spirit last night, Jan. I'm unsettled by your experience and hope that thing clears out before bed time tonight. Maybe you could get a fogger for your place and spend a couple of hours at Sonic with me. Nothing jumped on me (thank the good Lord!), but I seemed to have an allergic reaction to something. I itched and could not get comfortable. I actually saw the sky before the sun comes up. Looks like sunsets, but in reverse. I'm sure it doesn't impress most of you, but it was notable for me. Daddy always said "You can't soar with the eagles if you hoot with the owls". I don't know what eagles have to do so early in the morning, but it was an area of contention for him. He'd crank up Hank Williams SENIOR or Loretta Lynn to get me out of the house. Your Cheating Heart and what every she sang, sucked! You could almost hear barnyard animals in the background. Ok, it might be one of those days I send myself back to bed.

Have a good day and avoid the night crawlers.

Okay... I've been quiet about this because I don't really know how @Redball Express feels about me saying something, but:

Several days ago he had a... he was in the hospital in San Antonio for something serious.
Very serious.

We've talked back and forth via DM's, but for the past 4 days he's gone completely silent.

I'm extremely worried about him. He's a very good friend.

Please everybody: send good vibes his way.
