He signed a two year contract. He got hurt. He got screwed over by a crappy offense. Yet, he’s the one who has to pay. I get it. It’s business. And I don’t care if it’s true or not that Zeke is holding out. You think Zeke doesn’t understand that he’s being ran into the ground on his rookie deal? You think he doesn’t want a deal down now? Zeke knows he could potentially be Hurns in 4 or 5 years.

Do you know what position has the shortest career average? Running back so using your logic EVERY running back should not honor a legally binding contract they sign and hold out because of the low career average for running back. Elliott has already played longer than the career average for RB's. When did society stop believing that it's wrong to not honor contracts that are signed. It used to be that a person's word was one of the most important thing a person could give.

They don't want to pay a guy who had 20 catches for 6 Million dollars a similar amount to be 4th or 5th on the depth chart. Are you seriously complaining about that?
agree

also saving cap space now will help in the long run. Cap space rolls over in the NFL, unlike the NBA. That's money we will be needing for Cooper, JSmith, BJones, (possibly) Zeke, Gallup, and eventually LVE and Awuzie.

I posted on the board that Hurns wouldn’t be back the following season the day we traded for Cooper. It was his lack of production that forced the trade. The Cowboys were hoping he would step up and he didn’t. His injury late in the season along with Gallop’s development and the addition of Cobb killed any chances of him returning.

He was always an insurance policy to take to camp in case someone got hurt and his contract wasn't guaranteed. Even if they had ended up needing him, he would have had to renegotiate his contract.

Which is exactly why he is forcing his release now, he has no leverage and little chance of being on the roster. With another team he might be a small guarantee and enough targets to continue his career. Good guy, but I'm not teary eyed over a move that is happening because Hurns only had 20 catches last season.

How is Zeke not honoring his contract? His contract that sucks because of the players union? The owners can lie and do whatever they want but a player excercises his options and uses the little leverage he has and it’s a problem. Poor owners....making millions off the back of the players who actually put their body and brain at risk.

I don’t buy this. IF the Cowboys thought a guy they got for a decent money and a guy who the Jags didn’t want was going to be their number one then they have some serious issues.

He shouldn't have been signed in the first place...

They were banking that he would step up and he didn’t which forced us to trade for Cooper. Gallop’s development and the addition of Cobb made him expendable. He probably wouldn’t have been a full go at the start of training camp anyway which was going to further reduce his chances of making the team.

Not a good look when we keep releasing guys at horrible times that give them opportunities to play elsewhere.

The Cowboys have the right to do it but if I were a Free Agent I would take this into consideration before joining the Cowboys. Being released just before Free Agency and Dez get yanked around like he did is a bad look.

4 million needed for Zekes new deal.

It was pretty obvious Hurns was falling down the depth chart last season with the addition of Cooper and Gallop’s development. The addition of Cobb who’s looked good this summer and Hurns coming off an injury made him expendable. This is no surprise.

That and Zeke not going to camp....

4 million pays for a lot of Zeke

The Cowboys only pay players out of Desperation. Like when Dez was released lol.

They should be trading good players for picks.

If they didn't want to pay Cole Beasley 6 million why would they pay him more? Ive been saying this since the end of the season last year

The cowboys overpay for position Flex and should weigh out their money by results not coulda woulda shouldas.

Crawford will be the next one to go because hes overpaid. Lol.

That isn't a failure of strategy, its a failure of talent evaluation. Hurns was their third choice in free agency and no one publicly (or on this site) predicted he would fall off as far as he did last year.
