I am perplexed as to why anyone would have an issue with this.

Hurns is a WR that wasn’t all effective last year and is coming off a serious leg injury.

How can anyone have an issue with this?

As just a 4th WR Hurns actually averaged 14.8 ypc on just 17 catches. Can’t really say he “wasn’t effective at all “

But 6 million is quite a bit for a guy that is still was gonna be the 4th WR.
I thought the team was so intent on keeping him despite the dollar number because of his experience, versatility, even as just a 4th WR.

I kept hearing how the Boys really like Hurns as a vet, like his versatility that can play slot and outside and how much they like his
locker room presence and work ethic, etc. but obviously there's a different picture and scenario going on behind the scenes.
And from all indications,..if not for cut in salary money issue, (to which I would have thought that would have been addressed much early than this time now)
would Hurns still be contending for a 53 roster spot right now ?

One thing seems clear though,- they were not going to play a 4th string vet WR a 6 million figure.

I admit that I had Hurns placed on my projected 53 man roster, but now I’m thinking it’s gonna come down to Brown, Austin, Wilson, johnson and Guyton.

You don't think he'll get more than $775K on the open market? Not even close to that number would be less than the minimum.

I'll take that bet.

No, I'll be surprised if someone offers him anywhere near what he would have made with the Cowboys. And I'll also be surprised if someone exceeds that quoted $2 million offer.

Broaddus is such a hack. He’s gone from pimping Hurns to name dropping Lenoir as a backup to Cobb

and it's a reason why Broaddus is doing only podcast shows ..and is not in some NFL team's office continuing to scout talent and personnel.

He was already guaranteed $1.225M.

If he signs for more than $775k then he came out positive.

Cowboys released WR Allen Hurns?

Ah ha ha ha...

I told ya so. It was inevitable. No need to keep a drastically overpaid JAG who is coming back from a gruesome lower leg injury.

Whatever. I don;t see where Slater confirmed those numbers. I'm just glad the Cowboys realized the folly of what they were scheduled to pay him and corrected things.

He has made 23 million thus far. I hoped he saved some. That was a brutal looking injury.

If calling you out for your mistakes is "name calling", I'm guilty. On the other hand, if the shoe fits...
Look I'm not pressed you resorted to name calling. I was just curious know what touched your nerve. Didn't think it was that serious but maybe it was.......

Hurns was slated to be the team's 11th largest cap hit this year, which really says something about how this team is structured to absorb the extensions of guys like Dak/Elliott/Cooper.

There's a post in this thread that states that they offered him $2 million. I believe it was from Jane Slater.

Here it is:

What they were offering Hurns was about what players like Jordan Matthews, Rashard Higgins and Seth Roberts are getting on their 1 year deals.

I would be interested to see if he gets an offer much more than that on the open market. I guess he thinks he will, I don't see it.

Wouldn’t surprise me to see him back in Jacksonville now that they have a QB.

What does Hurns bring to the team?

I seldom feel this way, but Hurns was a progress stopper.

There are players nbehind him that has skills and speed he only sees, but cannot match.

There are too many guys on the team that can do what he did and more.

They didn't have any WRs back then. Gallup was by far the best but he was a raw rookie with no experience at that point.

Actually, we missed out on better wide receivers who had no interest in coming here.

That isn't a failure of strategy, its a failure of talent evaluation. Hurns was their third choice in free agency and no one publicly (or on this site) predicted he would fall off as far as he did last year.

Talent evaluation is a part of the strategy. You can't have one without the other.

I called this out as soon as it happened.

Yeah but Sammy Watkins (a limited slot receiver who averages 8 missed games per year due to injury throughout his career) for 16 million was the definition of a horrible contract. Mahomes will never have an above average OL. They'll have to pay him $40million plus Kelce $15-20 million and Hill 20 million. No way they can ever win in the trenches.
