If I'm totally honest, I'll have to admit that this thing with Zeke has really taken the wind out of my sails to a degree. It seems like a bad time for the team that he would choose to distance himself from them when it's crucial for him to get familiarized with the offensive changes that Moore is trying to establish.

Here's hoping he'll choose to respect that need and places more responsibility on himself for being attentive to it. Seems to me that his carrying on an extended holdout could have a devastating effect on a team that's at a crossroad to prove itself more competitive. I wonder how many others here share my dismay with regards to this scenario. Let's hope he'll know enough to return in of time to quash the considerable damage that could ensue.

It’s been reported that he’s been working with the other running backs on the team with regard to the playbook. So his distance isn’t that far.

I think we basically agree but let's step through the next scenario.

What if:

2019
No Show all season.

2020
Already under contract due to 5th year option.
RFA issue over-ridden by 5th year option.

He decides to report & play 2020 season.

March 2021
He has accrued 4 seasons (2016-2018 & 2020).
He is a free agent (unless franchised).

Note: He probably owes the team for 1/4 of signing bonus for not playing in 2019.

Vacate the thread.

You said the Florio report was fake news.

Nobody is interested in your pivoting.

In that scenario he skips 2019 but plays in 2020.
(see the red text in my previous post)

Accrued seasons would be 2016-2018 & 2020.

Not likely to happen but I'm just stepping through simple scenarios to see where the other poster and I agree or disagree.
If he skips this year then he may not be welcome the next year, maybe a bigger distraction than its worth.. We will move on from him in a year.. I hope Weber or Pollard steps in and does amazing things behind this O-Line. I would call Morris and check on ajia..

The Cowboys will try to sign Zeke, but if he wants to be the highest paid RB in football, I don’t see that happening. He can hold out, but e doesn’t have the leverage the media suggests. He can be tied up for 2 more years and franchised after that. And it won’t cost the Cowboys a dollar until he shows up to play.

I like what Dak and Cooper are doing. Zeke needs to show up eventually and pay fines or agree to a reasonable offer and sign. Meanwhile, allowing your itinerary to be public while holding out is not a good look, nor will it make him the highest paid RB. Whoever is advising Zeke seems to want a break the bank deal even if it means a trade to a crappy team that can afford it.

The fact that Gurley now has some nagging injuries doesn't help. There's a lesson learned there. And The Rams after shelling out big bucks will now have to get other RBs involved to preserve him.

Year 4 of Zeke. Zeke drama cost them year 2. When will this organization understand the NFL is not a player driven league. Team first. Always. Do not pay him.

Exactly correct.. SJ told the world that the opening offer was what the over paid gurly got.. And would go up from there. If I had to guess the opening offer was gurly money with the pot sweetened a little. Maybe they are mulling it over and he a went to cabo to train. I have no idea how bayless knew that they wanted ay more. I can say that if SJ did what he said and they are wanting 17 a year then I let him sit and fine him.

According to this report, it's exactly why he went to Mexico

Ezekiel Elliott is on the move to a place with an “X” in the name. But it ain’t Oxnard.

Kevin Turner of 105.3 The Fan in Dallas, the Cowboys’ flagship radio station, reports that Elliott is heading to Mexico. He’s going there to train, like he did during his six-game suspension in 2017

Honestly I dont think having a HB capable of lightening the load is bad idea. Thats why I wasnt completely against Damien Harris this draft. Could extend Zeke's carreer as a top back, and make him more effective in key situations.

If Weber doesnt work out, I could see them taking a HB late day 2 early day 3 next year. I dont think Pollard factors into that. I think he is more of a reciever

BTW.....just me and I said this in a different thread, Stephen nor Jerry doesn't appear to be to concern. Their tone is night and day different during Murray's negotiation.

I think in todays NFL you have to go committee. You have to throw to your RBs and you have to use multiple players in different situations. Zeke is overused. There's no doubt and it will be an issue at some point.

Even after the extend Zeke, I think they will continue to look for starter caliber talent at HB. Could bena FA ala CJ Anderson, or it could be pick like Damien Harris.
