This signing makes Zeke feel all warm and fuzzy. No threat whatsoever.
I doubt warm and fuzzy,

Hes not worried NOW, im betting if zekes not here by 8-6 when the threat of a lost FA year hes not feeling warm and fuzzy when the 40k per day starting setting in and they have enough RB by Committee which according to 80% of you all is all we need with this line , I do not agree, but it is the consensus..

if Zeke decides to lose a year in FA and hold out past that sand starts losing money, Cowboys will bring in Ajayi next.. if this were 2020 his hold out means more but him having 2yrs left on rookie deal forces his hand for the 8-6 deadline..:oldcouple: after that its a REAL Holdout. now its simply making a point

No Zeke means no playoffs.

Does no playoffs mean no more Garrett?

If so, this might not be a bad thing.;)

Listen, as long as Jerry is in charge, Garrett is HC, unproven Moore OC is running the show, there was never going to be any big
playoffs. We have a much tougher schedule this season anyway.

Wonder if Alf may be given consideration as the 3rd back if Weber fails to impress?
The biggest hangup with Morris as it will always be is his lack of contribution on special teams.

Either he is the primary backup or not at all. It is hard to keep a reserve who basically sits there until he gets a few carries a game. Causes roster size issues and also impacts who you carry as active into a game.

At the end of the day, you could do a lot worse than Morris as the primary reserve. A couple of series a game is fine but you often want more. It really depends how much they intend to run.

Gary Brown will get one of the guys to tote the rock...Our OL, if healthy, can open holes.

Morris is a insurance policy in case Elliot sits and the rookies aren’t ready to be a starter. Chum and Jackson were never going to become starters. Morris in a pinch is the best option for us because he has been a starter and knows our blocking and scheme.

Morris would be taking reps and snaps away from the young RBs, .. and camp and preseason is ideal time and situation for learning experience for young RBs.
I don't get this move at all. Sounds like " panic".
So if Zeke was at camp he wouldn't be taking reps and snaps away from the young rbs?

I don't think the idea was to make Zeke feel threatened. It would take a significant signing to do that, and the Cowboys naturally are going to want to trade away draft picks or give out a significant contract to make Zeke feel threated so that he signs. To do that would probably mean giving up more than the excess price it would take to reach an agreement with Zeke.

Alfred knows the system and probably knows he’s not likely to make the team either.
Its almost like when they signed Phillip Tanner back in the middle of the preseason when there was no way he was going to make the team that year; but he was an veteran back who knew the system and could help them correctly evaluate the positions around him.

He will get paid and a chance to make the team. Either Chum and Jackson won’t make it. We have Weber and Pollard. And now Morris. 1 or 2 gets cut and maybe 1 goes to practice squad. Whomever is a special teams ace will stay.

The biggest contribution Morris can make right now is showing the rookies how to work at the pro level. If the intention is a Plan B for Zeke it'll need to be more than just adding Morris.

Get these rookies up to speed about blocking. They are gonna run the ball a lot in preseason. Get these kids some reps and see who gets it.

Wow. Massive overreaction on this board.

Simple facts are these: Zeke will report by August 6, new contract or not. He can't become a free agent without accruing another season. If he fails to report by August 6, he doesn't get credit for an accrued season. If he sits, he doesn't get paid, and doesn't get any closer to being able to sign somewhere else as a free agent. Yes, his sitting out would hurt the team, but that would be a classic case of cutting off your nose to spite your face. He will play this season regardless of the outcome of this current "holdout". Meanwhile, he enjoys Cabo and misses the grind of pre-season practice and meetings.

DON'T WORRY ABOUT ZEKE. HE'LL BE THERE.

This Morris signing is not about Zeke. I think it is simply that the Cowboys have seen enough of Jackson, Weber, and Chunn to know that Morris is still better than any of them. And, I don't think this is a temporary training camp only signing. I think Morris is here for the season.

I expect Alf to be the lead dog with a push from Weber and a few nifty runs from Pollard.
Yeah if no Elliot then it will be hard to take the start from Morris. If a rookie can take the start from Morris then we maybe onto something.

Nope, and especially in preseason games where Zeke would hardly even be playing if at all.
But the more I think about it , the cowboys maybe so worried that this hold out has a chance to carry into regular season and they don't want to be in a position to have to trust rookie and inexperienced running backs

Veteran Morris may be considered their back pocket insurance.. just in case the rookie backs happened to be still behind in assignments, etc. and not quite ready yet, assuming Zeke hold out is more foregone than expected.

I thought for an embarrassingly long time that the thread title was, 'Alfred Morris is Black', and wondered why it was multiple pages.
