Trade Ezekiel Elliott If He Wants Too Much (think Hershel Walker Type Trade)

Teams are desperate, GMs and Coaches will want to save their jobs and willing to spend now and pay for it later.
Nobody is trading multiple picks (especially not multiple firsts) for a RB that wants to be highest paid RB in the league. No GM in their right mind is going to trade all these picks and then pay Zeke 18M per year, especially, like you said, when there are RB's to be found every year. Not going to happen with a salary cap.

RBs aren’t valued like they were years ago. The Steelers allowed one of the top backs in the league to walk. The Cowboys allowed Murray to walk after setting a franchise rushing record in 2014. You can forget about a Herschel Walker type trade. There’s only one player in the league that could be traded for close to what the Cowboys got for Walker and that would be Pat Mahomes.

This whole thing is laughable!

Zeke will show up on or before Aug 6. He’s basically sitting out a week.
If Zeke doesn’t sign or show up on Aug 6, he gives the Cowboys another year of control. His only options are to sit out without pay and lose another year towards free agency or sign a new contract or show up to camp while continuing negotiations.

He can even show up and not practice claiming a tight back or hamstring, but he must show up. On Aug 6, the Cowboys gain all the leverage.

I think because of Bell and now Elliott, more RBs are going to hold out for taking some many carries.

Todd Gurley's 4 year, $57,500,000 contract says hi.

Levon Bell's 4 year, 52.5 Mill deal isn't too shabby either.

Heck, even David Johnson got 3 year, $39,000,000

13-14 mill a year is clearly the starting point. I'd expect around 15 a year gets this one done. Likely the stumbling block is length as Zeke likely wants another shot at FA when he's still in his 20s

Holding out during the season costs you paychecks. Bell’s hold out cost him a lot of money. He threw away over $14 million on that franchise tag he refused to sign. He didn’t end up with the kind of money he was asking for.

Some are forgetting why the Cowboys made the Herschel Walker trade. This team doesn’t need a Herschel Walker type trade this is the best roster the Cowboys have had since the 07 season. All they need is Zeke.

The Cowboys are built to win now, the team could look very different next season with all the players that will be up for contracts. Future draft picks for the best player on the team isn’t going to help us this season. The offense is built around Zeke you can’t move on from a key cog like that during training camp and expect to win this season.

If you had listened to him, that wasn't the point. It was the principle. He wants to be compensated for all the carries through large body traffic. He's not getting hit by smaller DBs like a WR. Words he said.

Like I said Bell’s hold out cost him a lot of money that he’ll never get back. Go look at what he originally asked for he’s not getting close to that.

Why does everyone want to see Morris on this team. I would rather add Emmitt Smith to this squad and he is probably wearing depends by now.

After a day, I'm now puzzled with the signing. I'd rather go with one of the younger guys if Zeke missed a game.

Morris was a vet min player *last* year, and we apparently didn't want him then for that much. He's 30 now. He was still available a week before training camp. That says what the league thinks of him.

I can't believe that when the Herschel Walker trade was made, there were Cowboys fans and media critics who actually thought it was a BAD trade for the COWBOYS! :omg::rolleyes:

They didn't reckon with Johnson converting all the aged players we got into draft picks. He caught the Vikings napping too.

Wait, you say RBs can be found all the time but then say to make a blockbuster, Herschel Walker type trade to a dump team? You guys can't even pick which side of the fence to be on. If RBs are not valuable, then who the heck is going to give up tons of picks? Do you guys even think before making these threads?

That's the way most trade discussions go. 90% wish fulfillment fantasy.

We'll get guys we want for a stick of gum.
We'll trade guys we don't want for a mountain of gold.

That's actually a disadvantage.
GMs need to fear getting fired,

It's the rational expectation of getting fired that makes them *rationally* discount the future prospects for the team. If you're gone, that future is not your problem. Your problem is staying employed this year. And planning an exit strategy.

People don't get smarter when they're afraid, they get stupider. If the job is busting rocks with a hammer, fear can get you more busted rocks. If the job is thinking and planning, you get worse plans.

Trades like that only happened because there was no free agency.

You will never see another trade like that again in the NFL.

And no, there is no team in the NFL that is going to give up 2 first round picks for a RB as devalued as the position is nowdays.

We gave up a first for a year and a half contract on a WR who was good but not great at the time.

There's one born every minute. You never know who is desperate enough to make a bad deal.
