Robinson got healthy to play that winter and Popovich told him to continue rehabbing. That is why people said they tanked. I'm sure that Popovich would tell you that he was looking out for his long term health and not tanking.

The better example is the 76ers who traded off their good players and played rookies for 4 years straight to draft Embiid, Simmons, Okafor, and Fultz. They just made the ECF and took the eventual champs to 7 games.

Again that’s not 100 percent true. Robinson’s back went out in preseason. He came back when the team was 3-15. They went 3-3 in the games he played in and didn’t improve a bit. In fact one of the games they won was against a 21-3 Rockets team. If they were tanking Robinson would never have come back. The truth is he broke his foot after that 6 game stretch. Sean Elliott missed 39 games that year. The team was led by a geriatric Dominque Wilkins Vernon Maxwell Vinny Del Negro and Avery Johnson. They were lucky to win the 20 games they did

Sports fans are not fanatics. The term fan is derived from fanatic but the meanings have obviously diverged. Fanatics are defined by unwavering loyalty and blind devotion. It is what it is.

part of unwavering devotion means continuing to support the team in whatever it does to win the championship, as there are 31 losers every year.
tanking is just one such strategy, so being a fanatic means suffering through such bad times all in the pursuit of the championship.

i would not include cheating in it because cheating risks blemishing the legacy.
landry and johnson championships do not have * on them because of being caught cheating.
belicheat's championships have the * on them.

This team was up and ready to go back in 2006 and 2007 and nothing really came of it. Had a franchise QB and got 2 playoff wins out of him. Some of us it just takes longer to convince that things are different. Maybe if the same things didn't always happen in the playoffs that would be a start.
I understand taking longer to think things have changed. I’m talking about the cliff jumping. So you’d rather be upset and miserable about this team failing?

Eh.... Yea. I'm going to have to go ahead and sorta disagree with you there.

In the 1990s under Coach Pop the Spurs made it to the playoffs every year except 1997.
Part of the Spurs legacy is their consistency for making the playoffs long before the 00's.

1997 was an outlier in which clearly there was tank, and Pop's is the type psycho mastermind that would do that on purpose.

Robinson and Elliott were hurt that year. Yes it was an outlier but Elliott hurt his knee and Robinson hurt his back. Are you trying to claim they faked their injuries. They were far and away the clubs best two players that year. Vinny Del Negro, Avery Johnson, and the corpse of Dominique Wilkins are not going to win a lot of games.

Not 20 years ago.

What has transpired over the last twenty years.

This franchise is one of like 4-5 teams that hasn’t made a conference title game over the last two decades. Not twenty years ago. Every single year for the last 20.

The point being this franchise has given its fans a lot of reasons to doubt them.
I guess that’s my question. What is this franchise doing wrong now?

what?!

lott played corner, free safety, and strong safety. he led the league in interceptions twice, finishing his career with 63 interceptions.

reed? he had 64. in a pass-happy era.

not saying who was better -- just that lott was a hell of a player, and not just a "one-dimensional gimmick."
Nobody ever said Ronnie Lott beat them single-handedly. Reed? Not so much.

is there any need to argue whether tanking happens in the nba?
it was so rampant that they changed the lottery rules...

1996 was Pops first year. They did not make the playoffs. I explained why In another post. There was no tank for Duncan. Their odds actually were quite bad to even get the number one spot.

It also means uncritical devotion.

Fan =! fanatic.

Dave Helman and others on the crew need to be replaced with high energy folks. These folks offer nothing. Low energy and like they rather be somewhere else. Change even at that level, offers a fresh new perspective for the fans and players. The reporting has been stale for 20 years plus.

Been that way for while now. Dallas is hub for sports media to launch their careers. I am believer that team reports should be fan on some level otherwise you get what you mentioned..low energy.

Injury schmenjuries... Pop always coaches his teams to the playoffs, even if just to the first round.

liked what I saw from the RBs...Pollard,Weber with a nice TD run and Jordan Chunn.

DE Joe Jackson looked good...very excited to watch him this pre-season.

DT Maliek Collins,S Xavier Woods continue to play well.

LBs Van Jaylon looked like men among boys out there.
