What does Jason Garrett actually do?

Wrong. The kick was simultaneous with the timeout. If there was going to be a delay of game penalty because of the play clock then the timeout wouldn't have been in time either. The kick would have been good if no timeout was called.
Wrong again my cowboy brother. Because he called a timeout and negated the penalty. Doesn't matter how simultaneously it was the time out was already called and it wasn't delay-of-game. It was motion players not ready

It's not his offense.
It's not his defense.
He doesn't call plays.

What does he actually do that any figurehead like Switzer or Campo couldn't do?

He oversee the offense, defense and special teams. He is involved with game planning and has final say on what they do. He is the one who catches hell when they lose and yet discredited when they win. I should also add that Jimmy did not call offense or defense and did not call plays.

Who is going to attach himself to Jerry's strings? He is a RED puppet.

It’s well documented...puppet , yes man, don’t bulk JJ...etc. It is what it is. We’ll win or lose with him or another just like him as long as JJ’s the want to be GM. You can’t spin this stuff. It doesn't matter what he does as long as he follows the rules.

We are going to disagree on this. If the timeout doesn't happen before the play clock runs out, then it would still be a penalty. Obviously there were still a couple of seconds on the play clock. Secondly, if you watch the youtube video, all of the players were set before the kick. There would have been no penalty. The only person that said he was afraid that the players wouldn't be set was JG. I couldn't find a single article or video clip of anyone saying that there would have been a penalty.

The players did end up getting set before the kick, but with his coaches yelling at him that the players weren't set, and there only being a few seconds on the play clock, he didn't have time to stop, focus, and look at every player carefully and then make a decision, and then communicate that decision to the refs. All he had time to do was trust what he was being told and act. Besides, statistics show that icing really doesn't have an impact anyway.

Below is some stats I found in a Sporting News article.

Over the past nine years, Tobias Moskowitz found that when an opposing coach iced the kicker as he attempted a clutch field goal, those kickers actually became more accurate.

Time on the clock --- Iced --- Not iced

1:59 to 1:01 ----- 74.2% --- 77.6%
1:00 to 0:31 ----- 74.3% --- 74.6%
0:31 to 0:16 ----- 76.0% --- 76.9%
0:15 to 0:10 ----- 77.5% --- 75.4%

You're giving them a practice kick essentially.

If Bailey makes the second kick then no one would be saying anything about Jason's clock management in that game. However, as discussed in the many threads about the game, Garrett should have called timeout with 20 seconds left, run a couple of plays to maybe get Bailey closer, and then called timeout with 3 seconds left. No one would blame Jason for anything then even if Bailey missed the kick.

More bad game management mistakes and he hasn't gotten any better.

I gave you a like simply because. Uforce and intelligent argument. Bottom line one game one call one icing no matter how it turned out does not make for a horrible coach. I've seen Bill Belichick do worse in the playoffs
