OXNARD, Calif. - he Cowboys have apparently seen enough of the Rico Gathers experiment, deciding to cut the tight end on Monday here at training camp.

Gathers was entering his fourth camp with the team, and had seemingly improved every year, going from the practice squad in 2016-17 to the active roster last year in 2018, when he played 15 games, including four starts.

But here at camp, Gathers hadn’t made a big impact, and also suffered a minor ankle injury that kept him out a few days........

Oh well another forum Star gets booted from the real Star!

We will regret this

The phrase is “rue”
Lol.
Shame, loved his red zone potential but sounds like Jarwin is ballin and the second year guy from Stanford is getting an opp regardless.....so ran out of time and numbers for uncle Rico.
We will be cutting some good WRs and DL also soon, just too many numbers...as we say...these are first world problems

Rico had a snowball's chance in hell of making it on this team through training camp. We simply have too much talent at TE on this roster and not enough space to accommodate Rico.

As badly as the team needed a TE to serve their cause, Rico never was quite able to absorb the intricacies of the playbook in terms of blocking effectively and running his routes correctly. I'm reasonably confident that the staff would have jumped at the opportunity to utilize his talent if it was sufficiently there to do so. It seemed clear to many here that his departure was likely to happen well before it ever did. Clearly, it was time to move on.

Did not think Rico was going to make the team anyway. So do they only go with 3 TE’s for sure on the roster like they should.
Or does McElroy now automatically make the team.
Well, #82 is a season long injury free known item,,,so why not just roll with 3 t.e.'s?

Now watch Gathers go be a stud for some other team. Kind of I'm sure if we cut Randy Gregory and he would blossom somewhere else and never take another hit from a bong and be an angel. KARMA.

NFL history is littered with players that only blossomed after they were cut from one team. It took hitting the bottom for them to realize that they needed to change things up in order to achieve anything in the league. There are even more who were cut and were never heard from again. I think Rico will be closer to the second group. He also has a 1 game suspension coming up. Who knows when that next strike may occur causing him to get a larger suspension.

And there is no evidence Rico is on the cusp of "blossoming" anywhere. He just got cut from what is probably the weakest group of TE's in the league.

Absolutely.

If he gave as much pride and attention to football as he does his not-so-budding-rap career, he might actually still be around.

The team showed infinite faith and patience in him as a project and he did very little to capitalize.

He didn’t have the required mindset necessary to excel.
