I use to lurk a lot at the ranch. That's where I went for my Cowboy news. They had some sort of upgrade and the computer I was using at the time couldn't navigate the site that well so I went looking for other Cowboy forums. I think I had to register here to read the forum...It's been so long it's hard to remember. lol Anyway I know the first few years here I hardly posted anything. I remember I had to change my password once and took me about a week to get back in. lol

I used to post on the StarTelegram message board, which was pretty much the wild west. CowboyRoy did NOT like Quincy, and there was a loud minority of posters praying for the Cowboys to sign CFL legend Ricky Ray. Good times.

I joined this place and cowboys-forum after. SIlverStar on cowboys-forum was (is?) a great dude. He was friends with Jim Beaver (Ellsworth from Deadwood among other great roles), and forward me an email where I did an email interview prior to s2 of Deadwood for TWoP. Time flies.

The problem with join dates though is that CZ used to require users to login to read the site in the early years which means a lot of users joined during those years but never posted.

Actually, I think I do remember where it required a login to even read. Another reason @Reality sucked.

Back then is a bit blurry to remember. All I remember is I was working in Greenwich at the time. I used to surf the web at lunch between Open Arena games with the rest of IT. I remember IT had their own 2 story building and the datacenter was upstairs. It had weird pathways throughout IT and I recreated the building into an Open Arena map. It was awesome because we used to play death match on a map that was exactly like the building we worked in hah.

I truly miss one of the all time great posters here, who also had his own Boys podcast. He never got to see the Dak/Zeke era...DCFanatic.

https://thelandryhat.com/2014/08/14/tribute-ultimate-dallas-cowboys-fan-dc-fanatic/

My memories of DCFanatic are getting quite blurry and not to tarnish his memory. He really enjoyed writing and talking about the Cowboys, but if I remember correctly. He was absolutely terrible at taking criticisms over his writings. He used to get angry and nasty if someone had a negative comment about something he wrote. ...if I'm remembering correctly. There is a small possibility I'm remembering someone else, but I'm pretty sure it was DCFanatic.

I was at the Ranch for a few years before here.

Joined here back in 2005 for a change in pace, posted for a bit, got a signature from Juke99, and then just lurked for a bit as life got busy. Remember seeing Ranch members always copying from here for press conferences. yakuza-rich(IIRC) and woody's girl where the ones they quoted the most. So, I got curious enough to join

Heck, even remember when both forums would boast about who had the most members and active members lol.

It's crazy to think about the about of posters that have been here throughout the years. Some have stuck around for 15+ years. Others unfortunately violated rules too much and got banned.

I still miss the original community. I really didn't know how good we all had it back then. It's amazing how different the experience is, from then to now. I would work really long hours, back then, and would usually log in in the evenings. So many really great, really knowledgeable posters who would openly and freely discuss any Cowboy topic and just had knowledge of things that you never would have known otherwise. Much more civility for sure. That's what I miss most I suppose and I'm probably as guilty of this as anybody.

The Wayback Machine has snapshots for thecowboys.net back to late 2002. It used the site mazevo.com. I was addicted from the first time I found the site and have been lurking ever since.

I'm just glad a forum like this still exists. I've been part of quite a few forums in my day and a lot have been ruined by Facebook. Not my cup of tea. I'd rather log into a forum and cruise threads that catch my interest.

I believe CBZ was created in 2004. I was poking around for a while, I think I finally signed up to post in 2006.

EDIT: Actually, you signed up exactly 9 days after I did. lol

So they had you on a 2 year probation?
Sounds about right

CC, The ‘Reality’ is that you’re on life long probation
Tis sad but true v-man, when I was born, the doc slapped my butt, then warned and threatened me. I was born under a bad sign, Slappy's Bar and Grill (And We ain't Got No Grill).

When the preacher asked my bride "Do you take this man to be your lawfully wedded husband"? She replied "That depends".

I joined this forum in Feb 2005. Prior to that I posted on an antiquated type Cowboys forum (Can’t remember the name,) in which the threads would post downwards at an angle, once the posts got all the way down from left to right they would start all over at the top. It was a weird format but I was happy to talk Cowboys football in any form.

Just saw the former The Ranch forum, now part of 247 sports may be going away/shutdown.
