I am right on this guy. This guy makes plays. TOUGH and has a high FB IQ.

Look, I like the player and want Dallas to keep him but he went undrafted and now has a high ankle sprain which will not be close to 100% by week 1. No team is going to sign him to their 53 man roster under these circumstances. Had he been a draft pick, I might feel different not knowing how many teams may have actually been interested in drafting him late. But no team did. Anyone looking for LBer depth on cutdown day will be looking for veterans with experience, not undrafted rookies who got seriously hurt in their first game. I’m confident he would make it to the PS but with how serious they say the sprain is, I expect him to go on IR.

Yea, I bet PUP and then IR.

I know it's just one pre-season game, but later on in the year a team with a bunch of injuries or who is just rebuilding might look at that game and poach him from the PS.

PUP is no longer an option. It’s 53, IR, or cut and signed to the PS.

they wont get him passed the PS, the pregame all they did was talk about this kid, he plays this way in practice, flashed in the BW scrimmage and again tonight..if hes being talked about other teams will hear.. if a guy flashes this early and played great in college as well but slipped through crack, you find a way to get him on your roster..if a scrub project like Rico can be stashed away this kid should get the chance as well..

As good as he looked, I doubt another team is going to commit one of their 53 roster spots to an undrafted free agent who is injured and can't play to start the season, especially based on such a small sample size playing against 2nd and 3rd teamers.

Of course, IR is an option for the Cowboys if they feel it's necessary.

PS aint an option. Neither is IR. He will be playing on special teams on the 53 to start with.

My prediction for Gifford: IR this year with plans to have him take Sean Lee's place next year.

Man, the anointing oil is out in Costco sized vats. Guy makes an interception against the 49ers second stringers (on a pass thrown right to him) and suddenly he's next year's starting LB. I'd just be happy if he proves to be worth a roster spot at some point and can play special teams.

He could also replace Sean Lee on the weekly injury list, so there's that.

why not PS?..if he is out 2 months than he wont be doing any good on the 53.
if you put him on the PS...any of the 31 other teams can claim him. You would lose him outright. Not worth the gamble.

If a team claims him, Dallas can potentially match the offer and keep him (see Blake Jarwin in 2017).

still...not worth taking a risk. He's good enough to be on the 53 as long as he's healthy.

Because he caught a pass thrown directly to him in the first preseason game?

Even the coaches, who have watched every practice rep multiple times still probably can't make that determination. At least we have this year's first "he'll never clear waivers and make the practice squad because he could start for most other teams" August hero. But hey, I'm all for one of those guys working out once in a while...

I was excited about how he looked too, but it seems pretty premature to decide this after watching him play a small portion of one preseason game playing with and against 2nd and 3rd teamers. This is especially true given that he was an undrafted free agent who had a history of injury problems in college.

Blake Jarwin never really established himself as a rookie on the playing field in preseason, Gifford has already done that. even albeit just one game.
I don't think Giff would ever clear waivers, much less still being at risk even if we did managed to place him onto to our practice squad.

And any other NFL team can claim him off waivers and then place him on their 53 active roster- ditto the same in grapping him off our practice squad and
and making him active on their own 53 man roster.
That practice squad player would have to agree to impending offer by the team wanting to keep him on PS, that would be equal minimum wage level of a 53 roster player.

I believe the eagles reportedly were poised to pouch Jarwin off our practice squad which why we had to hurry and promote Jarwin to our 53 roster .

They will likely either IR (short term or permanent) Gifford or he stays on the active 53 roster as the 6th or 7th LB, and have him rehab and heal up as the season goes on.
Much like they did rookie LB Chris Covington last year. (staph infection)
