Anyone else surprised that all this S is happening while the fire is the hottest for The Clapping Carrot....he is truly the luckiest guy on the planet the way he gets bailed out of every situation with alibis for failure.

Actually no, you don't tear up the old contract, you add an extension to it and play out the remainder of the old one, with that pay being supplemented by the bonus paid for signing the extension, and then the remainder of the extension kicks in after that.
LIKE I SAID HE WILL GET MOST OF THAT 33,YES HE WOULD THIS YEAR..YOU EREMOVE THE 432K FROM IT TO FIGURE real MONEY ADJUSTED TO NOW NEW MINUS OLD ETC.. HE WONT BE MAKING ANYWHERE NEAR 432K HE MAKES NOW THATS FOR SURE AND MOST NEW DEALS OF LATE ARE FERONT LOADED TO AVOID DEAD MONEY LATER..HIS GUARNTEED MONEY AND BONU'S WILL BE MORE THIS SEASON THAN ANY OTHER..

The fact that you’d offer him 30 mil a year implies your FO doesn’t view him as a temporary convenience

Let me just let you in on a little inconvenient fact of life. I don't speak for the front office. I realized that years ago, like when I was 7. Between the ages of 5 and 7, I thought for a brief moment that I might, but realized that I didn't. Here's another one for you, neither do you. I've never seen the offer so I can't say that the team offered him 30 on average or like Wentz, 30 starting down the line or whatever. He is not worth 30 IMO and I don't believe that he would find another team to offer him 30 this year but whatever.

Dak originally asked for 30, then bumped it to 32, then we heard 34 and today, we hear 40. My "Front Office" never offered more then 30, from the reports I've seen. Now, if you want to view that as a commitment by the team then be my guest. I don't see it that way. He's a decent QB with a lot of intangibles but I'm not a Cowboy fan who worships at the feet of Dak. I see him for who and what he is. He is not as gifted a passer as is Wentz IMO. With a strong supporting cast, he can win a Super Bowl, if he continues to develop but, unless he improves substantially, he aint gonna put this team on his back and will them to a championship without Zeke and Coop and a hell of a D. In order to keep those guys around him, we have to sign reasonable contracts. I don't think he's worth 30 mil but if the team does, so be it. I'd pay him 26 on a two year extension and then see where we were at. If he has developed to the point of truly being a top QB in this league, then pay him more over a long period of time but don't pay him a boat load of money before he's even proven he can be more then just a middle of the road QB in the NFL. That's not what I would do, ever. Now, if that's your way and that's what you wanna do, then by all means, go do that in Philly but that's not how I see it or want to see it done in Dallas.

Wrong.

It doesn't kick in next season. He'd get a massive signing bonus, and his current contract would be immediately terminated.
Wrong. Lol

Writing the word doesn't make it so.

Carson Wentz signed a 4 year deal, but is still obligated for 6 years because he has 2 years remaining on his rookie contract. THAT'S how it works. He will got the signing bonus ($16 million - is that "massive"), so he will make more than what's left on his rookie contract, but the remainder won't be paid until after he finishes the next 2 years.

Kind of.

Most likely, his 2019 base of $2.025M won't change, but the cap hit would jump up significantly because of the prorated signing bonus.

Wentz signed an extension in 2019 but his 2019 base is still only $720k. His 2019 cap # is $8.393 M.

WaiT do U kNoW hOw HErd iT is tO gEt QB?

I'm sure we could wrassel up another QB with skills comparable to Dak within a couple years....

40M is so outlandish it's actually pretty funny. Normally, I'd be disgusted with an allegation like that, but here, all I can do is giggle like a school girl...

Does typing in caps make your point better?

How do you know he will get most of that $33 million? Wentz only got a $16 million signing bonus, and the signing bonus is the only part of the extension he would get this year. Face it, we don't know the details.

As for Dak's current salary, he is set to make $2 million this year, not $432K, and even if he were, again, he would make more than that with whatever the signing bonus would be for the extension.

I have a different take.

This is supposed to be a big year for the Cowboys. However, this preseason is about everything except football.

Suspensions, holdouts, and massive contract negotiations.

Typical Cowboys.

Its just our front office being terrible as usual. They should have worked to get dak done right away knowing they would need to so. Unfortunately howie roseman made jerry and co. Look stupid getting the wentz deal done out of the blue. I mean when a team has a real gm thats what happens. If you are daks agent you go with all the stats into the office and show he has better stats than wentz and should be paid more than the 34 million wentz got paid

No worries, let's dump dak and get a QB with a rich wife. I'm sick of this terrible QB wanting to be the highest paid player in the NFL.
BREES HAS TH SAME BRADY DEAL ALMOST EXACT HES DOES NOT HAVE RICH WIFE.. does he?

they both can play with one arm better then Dak with 2..facts dak is playing EGO games within himself.hes overrating himself and that ridiculous.

take 4 years 30 per and in 3years if you outplay it sk for more Jerry will pay you after you earn it..being top 15 10-15 is not earning market money..his market is below 30 , 30 is gift..

This is gonna be wrong. Just sign him to 32.5 and be done. Any more than that and he plays the rookie deal. And gets a tag. Which his agent won’t let him play under. lol. These agents are giving these players bad advise.

That is still way over paying him.

Because, of course, the Cowboys are the only team that ever has a holdout or contracts to negotiate ...

Their quarterback was their leading rusher, their coach is an Urban Meyer disciple and 68% of their snaps last year were read option, designed QB runs or play action read fake. For reference, no NFL team was higher than 29%.

Bye
Did google also tell you the #1 pick of the NFL draft also came from a heavy zone read offense?
