No, he's not Witten of 2010. But he's still an average tight end in the NFL, and above average when it comes to receiver/blocking combinations.

Especially when you have a QB who is largely allergic to throwing the ball to wide receivers.

I’m sorry bro but you are seeing him with your heart and not your eyes. He’s been done for three years.

Well keep in mind he got 2nd round pay for 2 years? which was money for nothing.
I think dallas could have waited and got him in the 6th round.

The Patriots were rumored to be selecting him somewhere in the second round. I don’t think he would have stayed on the board that much longer.

No, I'm not. The NFL is severely lacking in tight ends who can both block and catch patches. They're unicorns.

Those last three years you speak of, he averaged 70 catches for 650 yards. And he still blocks far better than most tight ends.

Witten isn't what he was 10 years ago, but he's still middle of the pack when it comes to being a complete tight end.

Our 2020 UFAs (besides the big three) are:

Robert Quinn
La'el Collins
Randall Cobb
Jason Witten
Sean Lee
Byron Jones
L.P. Ladouceur
Maliek Collins
Anthony Brown

Notable RFAs are:

Blake Jarwin
Jaylon Smith

Going to be some missing talent around the lockeroom next year.

Here is how the team likely see it:

Quinn - Gone. Counting on one or two of Johnson, Jelks, Gregory to still be around and playing well. Taco won’t be and it will likely be a big drop off.

Collins - Gone. The two Connors will be counted on the complete the OL. Hopefully that works out.

Cobb - Likely Gone unless he does well and wants to stay on an inexpensive deal. They will keep a few of the youngsters and draft a WR next year at some point.

Witten - Most likely gone but it will be up to him. Jarwin, Schultz, and a draft pick will likely man the position next year.

Lee - Most likely gone through retirement. I hope they keep Gifford to slide into the 3rd spot but drafting two LBers next year seems like a good bet.

Jones/Brown - This one is very tricky. You don’t like to let this type of talent leave. One of them will be kept and they hope MJ or Olumba can develop for depth.

LP - Who knows and he doesn’t make enough to worry about. If he plays it will be in Dallas. If he retires, they will find a new guy.

Collins - Likely gone. Don’t see how they will have the money for him unless it comes from Crawford which is possible. I think they reached and had blinders on for Hill as a Collins replacement but I don’t see that working out at this point.

Jarwin - Tendered or signed long term.

Smith - Definately tendered and likely signed to an extension.

Dak, Zeke, and Cooper all signed to extensions.

Like I said, lots of talent going to be gone but at least the cupboard isn’t bone dry behind them. It really does make you think they should be going all in this year. At the very least they should be looking for a veteran backup QB and an improvement at safety.

Overall, I think that's a very good assessment and a good indicator of what we can expect to see.

I think they have to keep one of Jackson or Jelks on the 53 and then hope the other doesn't get snatched up off of the practice squad.

I see little chance of keeping La'el Collins. Can't pay everybody.

I'm expecting to see Gifford stashed on IR for a year to eventually replace Lee next year who I hope sticks around in some coaching capacity.

Brown is the guy I would try to keep based on a much lower price tag. Given Richard's teaching and techniques, I think they can afford not to pay Jones.

Part of me wonders if Maliek Collins might be that rumored "4th contract" that Jerry Jones alluded to? They're seeing him every day and the time is now if you felt he was worth keeping.

And another point. Looking at that list and what’s likely to happen, Jones and L Collins will likely return 3rd round comp picks, Quinn and M Collins 4th rounders, and Cobb a 6th or 7th. They are unlikely to be players in free agency as every dime will be spent on their own guys and they have players behind all those who will leave so the 2021 draft could be very exciting. I hope it’s a deep one because they look as though they will be rolling in extra mid round picks.
