So pay 'em whatever they want and you won't have a team much longer because you can't pay everybody top money and you know that as wel as I do. If you let 'em walk at least you'll have the money to replace 'em.
Thats the tough choices that must be made. Do they believe this is their best opportunity to win now? There’s no guarantees for the future.

And I’m not sure you do pay everybody now. I’d focus on your most Elite talents. We have an unusual situation in that our QB needs a stronger supporting cast.

If we had a more Elite QB we might not need an Elite RB, WR and OL. Possibly our bigger issue is we shouldn’t be paying a QB who needs all of this support?

The idea of limiting the high dollar positions to a given percentage of the salary cap is a brilliant idea. Don't remember who posted that idea earlier, but I definitely support it. That would solve a lot of problems.
I’ve been a proponent of placing Cap by position. It’s ridiculous about 10 or less players make up about 80% of the Cap.

In the NFL you have most of the players making less than a million a year. The league average is about 800,000 a year. So, it’s just the most Elite who are making the top end. But remember it’s this portion who also drive the revenue selling jerseys, fantasy football and putting butts in the seats.

As fans we’re so focused on winning we often lose face that this is a business first. It’s Sports Entertainment at the highest level. Some of he decisions made reflect as such. The NFL is the only professional sports league where every franchise makes money regardless the team’s success.

Yup, a bunch of greedy little kids playing tug-of-war fighting over a bag of Halloween candy.
And the ones who make the most are the ones who fight the hardest to get even more.
This is a very poor analysis of the situation. It’s a perspective we see fans all too often present. Fans continue to look from a teams perspective when its 53 individual situations on each team.

Greed is the fuel to our Capitalist society. It’s acceptable when owners act in their best interest but not the players. I understand fans frustrations but selfish on their part not to respect the individual players interest. Winning isn’t the priority. Making money is.

As my brother said when he played in the league, most players who play this game know that and injury can happen at anytime that could end your career and most players because of the gladiator physicality of the sport, will probably die sooner than the non football playing guy, most tries to get what they can.

I'd get the most money I could as well. It's not my job to worry about the salary cap.
Right. It’s the owners and FO job.

Players have a limited shelf life. You must maximize your earning potential. Your career could end on the next play.

Right

These owners will dump them them and move on in a heartbeat. There’s no loyalty anymore. Fans really shouldn’t get so attached .

The NFL is a business first. Fans don’t like the business aspect of the NFL. To many it’s just a Game and they bash anyone who gets in the way of winning. But it’s really much more than that.

I cannot read 400+ posts to say that these guys SHOULD want all they can get - everyone else does in sports and in private life? Perhaps on their 3rd contract they can start to provide wiggle room to "help the team"....

....just because fans (me included) WANT them to take less to help build more talent on the team, doesn't mean that they should

besides, if I am Dak, knowing that his head coach is a doofus and will crap, I mean clap away most chances at a ring anyway, I take what I can get

What bothers all of us is their contract demands tell us about their desire for a championship, or lack thereof.
They just want to grab every dollar even though they know there is a cap limit.
They know their demands really hurt the chances of a championship because there is a limit to what tricks can be played with the cap.
What would you do in their situation? Let me guess you are going to say you would take a discount. Total BS. You would do exactly what they are doing and get every dollar possible. Guess what no one but an idiot would blame you for doing so.

No, I would not. I would want a reasonable contract. I'm not saying Dak shouldn't get rich, I'm saying a contract in 25mil/season range would be fair. Dak would be easily able to retire on that whenever he chooses.

no one would blame me.
that is true.

but with that much money, i would care about the legacy.
i would work with the other players to collectively take a haircut to contend for next 5 years.
then i would get as much pr benefit as possible by doing a joint announcement.
that would get as many endorsement deals as possible to make up any difference.
and make sure the announcement and subsequent tweets go viral to sell advertisements.
there is so much they can garner from such pr show and the goodwill that would gain for at least a couple weeks.

especially with the limited life of a rb
i would be working on the next career.
that would mean learning from the basketball players

in 2015:
Peyton Manning leads the way with $12 million in off-field earnings. Manning has been the most marketable NFL player for most of the past decade, and current partners include Buick, Nationwide , Papa John’s International, Gatorade and DirecTV. Manning joined the Nike NKE +0%family last year after 12 years pitching for Reebok. As part of his Papa John's deal signed in 2012, he became a franchisee of the pizza brand with more than two dozen franchises in the Denver area.

jerry is a marketing genius and can easily orchestrate such a situation for his stars. nba teams do the same thing to make their package more attractive to land stars. these players could easily mine these $ with jones' help, or they can try to squeeze $ out of the cap rock.

So- by that logic, the guy who deserts his post in combat for his own welfare is absolutely in the right even though his action is to the detriment to the squad, platoon, company, etc ..?

The care about Championships needs to start with the HC. That's the guy who needs to instill a winning tradition in the players. Jason Garrett is a player friendly guy. He's their pal, he certainly isn't someone they respect enough to take a pay cut for.

I’d argue there’s more that are closer to Elite. But it’s a subjective argument . Most of all if they had this Elite supporting cast with a top 10 defense would probably be playing for championships.

All QB’s need a solid supporting cast. It’s what they do with it separates them from the pack.

This is probably best supporting cast we will be able to provide on offense and only produced a 22nd ranked offense. And can’t get past divisional round even with an improved top 10 defense.

If this as good as it gets with this supporting cast not sure why we want to reduce the support and then hope for more favorable results. The weak link in talent appears to be at QB to me.

Wonder when people will understand that the NFL is a business and teams will be here 20 years from now with fans, so they will all try to get the most money they can. That has no bearing on them wanting to win it all every year. If you have ever played sports you would know that is true.
