It's very obvious very early that a QB can play or not. This CAN be decided in the first season.
1. Tom Brady had it enough to automatically back up Drew Bledsoe right away.
2. Tony Romo was the best QB on the field his rookie season......Darren Woodson
3. Dak Prescott no matter how many haters, has it and had it his rookie year
4. Cooper Rush showed early he has it to at least be a capable backup and lead this team to at least a 500 record if anything should happen to Dak.

Mike White does not have it. It's very obvious, he should be cut and we should not waste a roster spot on a 3rd QB. Scan the waiver wire for a practice squad QB.

Dak arrived with Zeke and he will die without him.
Dak is a parasite feeding off the most expensive offline in the NFL.
We also got him a star WR Coop.
We got him a new off coach.
Now he has no reason NOT to excel this coming season!
You Dak-Employees make sure your here come December.

P.S. Leave your excuse BAGS at the door this time.

MIke White is going to be on the practice squad IMO, and it's ridiculous to make a blanket statement on a player that's been here one year with very limited game action......QB's need time to develop as do most rookies.....it's a huge jump from college to the pros, he's a fifth round pick, give him some time......
At least he's not another costly 2nd round pick where many are saying the same thing about those 2nd rounders needing some time. lol

That means we had better players than him. So I agree with you. You just couldn't play as well as the people in front of him at that particular time.
That isn’t what it meant. The depth chart is the depth chart, it has nothing to do with if you can play or not. Do you think Romo just magically became better than Bledsoe on a random Sunday night? No, Parcells overreacted to a Bledsoe interception for reasons known only to him and put him in. If it was up to Parcells he would have never put Romo in, ever. He hated depending on anything but veteran QBs. Why do you think when faced with the prospect of playing Hutchinson, Henson or Romo that Parcells went out and got a 42 year old fossil to play QB? It was literally anybody but the rookie for him.

Mike White, Sucks end of discussion

Yeah, that pretty much sums it up. The Cowboys gave him a chance yesterday to show something with the 2s. He was absolutely putrid, both mentally and physically. He is a waste to have in camp right now. Camp arms are a dime a dozen right now. Even Garrett could be a camp arm.

It would not surprise me if numerous QBs come in for a workout on Monday and White is cut on Tuesday.

I was happy to see him in there before rush. If nothing else just to shut some people up. Go Cowboys

Mike White May very well develop some day. The book isn’t written completely yet.

That being said. The coaches have to decide if the potential upside is worth the roster spot for the season.

You can get talented projects late in the draft every single year. So they have to figure out if a roster spot is worth keeping White. Or they’re better off drafting another project or getting a UDFA next year. Has white shown them enough?

I don’t think they use a roster spot on him at this point. Practice squad is a possibility. Doubt he would get claimed by another team.

You are spot on except for #4. Rush is not a capable back up. I always think the best backups are guys with similar traits as the starter. Rush has about 2 pct of the athleticism of Dak. If he had to start they would need to change the offense.

cmon.... go read all the posts from people that keep telling me Brady needed a great coach like Billy boy to develop, same with Mahomes. Thank God Patrick Mahomes has the QB whisperer Andy Reid, or he might be out of the league in the next 3 years... By the way, Cooper Rush had a STELLAR pre season 2 years ago, and he looked very salvagebale last night.

Kurt Warner and Rick Gannon career arcs say otherwise. Some people take time to develop. It's not uncommon in sports. Hell, Sandy Koufax was mediocre his first seven years before he finally broke out. If he wasn't a lefty he might not have hung on. The Phillies almost gave up on Mike Schmidt after he batted .196 his rookie year--now he is widely considered to be the best 3rd baseman in MLB history. Maybe Mike White doesn't have it, maybe he flat out sucks, but to make an all-encompassing blanket statement about young players is a mistake GM's in all sports have paid for with their jobs.

Many times players simply dont get opportunity, or they are on such a horrible team they can not succeed. Steve Young with the bucs is a great example. He was avg at best with that sorry team. Put him on a good team, and bam, he is a hall of famer. Kurt Warner was on the team that had Brett Favre starting , Mark Brunnel and Ty Drtmer already in GB. It didnt matter if Warner looked like Jow Montana that entire camp.. he was NEVER gonna get the opportunity to play in GB. Once you are viewed as a mediocre guy before you ever get the chance, its damn hard to overcome that. Even the year Warner busted out with the rams (his 1st year there) he would have not taken a snap had Trent Green not suffered a season ending injury during the pre season. RICH Gannon was a solid QB long before he went to the Raiders. He then just had a couple of great seasons when put on the right team.

All great players need the OPPORTUNITY more than anything. Again, no matter how great Dak did during his Rookie pre season, it would have been over looked with naysayers saying... oh its just preseason, oh, its against second stringers, and his arse would have promptly went right back to the bench for 4 or 5 more years had Tony not been injured.

Last season, James Connor would have had 30 to 40 carries had LeVeon not sat out.... again, no opportunity. Phillip Lindsay would have sat all season had Royce Freeman produced, and instead of Lindsay going to the pro bowl as an undrafted rookie, he would have just been on the bench in annonymity until the OPPORTUNITY was given to him.

Had Bledsoe not been hurt, who knows how long it would have taken Brady to see the field.

Back when 3 QBs always made the 53, having an experienced vet backup and a young guy with potential behind him was obviously a sound strategy.

In a two-QB world, roster decisions get a lot trickier.
