I would keep Phillips over March at this point

Phillips and Gifford looked good too. But will they keep both over March and Covington. Well, Gifford is injured, and Covington was injured last night.
So need to see the severity of both. As Gifford has an ankle sprain, and it is supposedly a high ankle sprain. He may be out for a while.

Regarding Pollard:

I need to check on the Prescott sack that put them behind the chains, because I thought he might have missed an assignment on the blitz pick up. But I need to check.

Let me help you out, Broaddus. He was completely beat. You don't need to check closely to make sure someone didn't steal Pollard's jersey and sneak out there. It was obvious to everyone watching it live. Even Jerry probably saw it.

With that said, he ran the ball well. Hopefully he can improve on the pass protection...

Taco was playing much later in the game than what I expected. My take is that they want to get a real good look at him and it has nothing to do with generating confidence. My guess is that they would like to see something from him to make them keep him, maybe generate some trade value. Could it be that if Taco showed something, DE Quinn could be let go assuming Quinn's contract can void if he is suspended (don't know if this is the case)? Better to spend the money on others. Same with Crawford. If some of the young players can play close to Crawford, I expect Crawford to be faced with take a pay cut or get cut.

I didn't see a whole lot from Taco the past two preseason games, though. Decent but nothing special.

I can see the showcasing Charlton for trade, but he's starting to look like a player theyay want to keep.

Need to see another good game or two from Phillips to think of him making the team.

I like the versatility Hyder brings to the rotation.

Covington, #95 is looking like a soild player in the middle...#79 keeps improving.

Me too.

I was trying hard to watch this kid. What really stands out is that he appears to know what to do, something that hasn't always been the case w/ our secondary. I think he's a bit limited speedwise, but makes up for it w/ instincts. I'm thinking that's what I saw, what's y'all's take?

Pollard and Phillips really shined last night.

Kerry Hyder continues to make plays...he has out played Taco and Armstrong in my opinion....tho Taco continues to improve.

phillips was all over the field yesterday. olumba also had great game. same for Jourdan lewis. d-backs are strong. gone are the days of scando, carr, wilcox and church.

With LBs Covington and Gifford dealing with injuries, they might have to keep both Phillips and March.

Covington and/or Gifford could go to IR and return by week 9.
- They would have to make the initial 53 for 1 day, then go to IR at which point the Cowboys can re-sign other players.

They could cut a veteran that is not subject to waivers such as Special Teams player CJ Goodwin, or Alfred Morris or Iloka and then resign them the next day.
- They did it last year with WR Deonte Thompson.

I predicted going into camp that Crawford might be a surprise cut.

It's not an easy decision.
  • He has been a full time starter for the past 5 seasons.
  • They gone to the playoffs 3 out of those 5 seasons.
  • He had 8 starts at DT last season (Collins missed 3 games and was not near-100% until game 9).
  • He had 7 starts at DE last season.
  • They were 5th in rushing yards allowed last season & 6th in points allowed.

At this point the status of other players likely determines if they want to keep him and his 7M cost.
DT
  • The starters average about 65% of the snaps.
  • That leaves 2 x 35% of the snaps for other players.
  • They need to be confident in some combination of Trysten Hill, Covington & Hyder to play those snaps.
  • The injury history of M.Collins also has to be considered.

DE
  • Quinn is out for 2 games.
  • DLaw remains on PUP at this moment.
  • Some combination of Armstrong, Taco, Hyder & possibly Joe Jackson have to be ready.

I would move on from Crawford if:
  • DLaw definitely healthy for game 1.
  • M.Collins remains healthy to the end of the preseason.
