The thing that excites me about Devin Smith that he isn't as one dimensional as the writeups said. He got drafted in the 2nd round on his deep ball skills but he really looks like he could give you a lot more than just those Brice Butler deep out plays.

Im thinking the depth chart is Amari, Gallup, Cobb, Austin, Wilson and Butler, with Noah Brown as a wild card to be the 7th guy. Then Jon'Vea Johnson on the PS, which I love also.

We have the rights to Smith next year too. We could get a quality player for a couple of years who we can churn into a comp pick in 2021. Brown is a bottom roster guy now and forever. I'll be sick if we use a roster spot on him.

Brown has only been 23 years old for a month, he is actually six months younger than Jon'Vea Johnson. I don't know if he sticks, but he has the physical skills to develop and that will be the reason why.

Could have been some on Dak too. But Pollard has the reputation as a poor pass blocker coming out, whether or not he was the problem on that particular play. It's an area he needs to prove himself in. Until he does, I'd consider that a limitation on how we should be using him.
And that's part of the reason I dont want Alfred Morris on this team. Morris cant block either. Heck Morris cant block, catch or play special teams very well. So he has more limitations than Pollard.

But like I said in another thread, if Pollard would have just turned around and showed Dak his numbers Dak would have thrown him the ball. It's a good teaching moment for the rook, so hopefully something good comes of it.

His youth is a point in his favor, but he has had years training in the NFL full time for his purported physical skills to develop into receiving skill, and it hasn't happened that we've seen yet. Years as a professional in the NFL should produce improvement no matter your age, if you have it in you to improve.

I bet the coaches let Mike White play with the 2nd team to see if he played any different with "better" talent since they're most likely determining whether or not to keep him.

White did not help his case in making the team tonight.
He is just not an NFL QB. Few are. We need to move on.

Morris may stick til Zeke gets back. I haven't seen Jackson, Chunn, or Weber look even moderately useful. And I was hoping. We have to take someone else to the game to backfill Pollard, if Pollard isn't just passed over for the starting stop by Morris. And we need somebody for short yardage.

I hope Jackson, Chunn, or Weber get some carries behind the starting o-line. The second and third team lines have been so bad this preseason I don't know how the coaches can evaluate these backs.

I'm aboard the Tony Pollard hype train, but maybe there wouldn't be one if he was running behind Mitch Hyatt, Jake Campos, and Juwann Bushell-Beatty.

Devin Smith
It's interesting that you mention Jimmy Smith.

Devin Smith's style reminds me of Jimmy Smith.
- I've described Devin Smith as looking smooth.
- Jimmy Smith's nickname was J-Smooth.
- I am NOT saying that Devin Smith has Jimmy Smith's ability.

I think the kid has Great ability. They need to keep him. With him as that 4th receiver once Tavon Austin gets hurt would be amazing.

I would like for them to find a way to keep D.Smith; however...

D.Smith
14 games played in 4 NFL seasons (64 possible regular season games).
Percent of games missed: 78.125%

Tavon Austin
82 games played in 6 NFL seasons (96 possible regular season games).
Percent of games missed: 14.58%

Exact same with Jimmy Smith. His first two season were basically washouts because of injuries. The plan would be to play him as a 4th and 5th receiver this year and give him another season to get up to full strength and have him possibly compete for the 3rd receiver spot going forward next season. Tavon and Cobb probably wont be here.

And for those that missed the game thread here, @Alexander was bummed out when Pollard busted off a 15 yard run and major butt-hurt when Pollard scored a TD a little while later. He later took out his snark on 2nd round pick Hill.

What's it going to be then, eh?

Sure. Prove it. Other than my distaste for Hill, this is complete crap. I am flattered that you would take the time out of your so busy day to paint a narrative though.

1. Cooper
2. Gallup
3. Cobb
4. Austin
5. Cedrick Wilson
6. D.Smith
7. N.Brown
- Most fans hate Brown but I like having him on the roster.
- However, I might just leave him on PUP.
