They brought him in for a look and passed on him

"Still monitoring" was the last I heard. It's likely that it is a hard pass, and they're just being polite, but he likely wanted more than we were willing to spend, and was going to work the market hoping for better.

I’d trade for Karl Joseph and a kicker. Not sure who that kicker is, but I’d deal for one.

I'd either cut Crawford or offer a 7th round trade to a cap rich team (SF? Colts?) who'd be more willing to eat his contract. We have two 3 techs ready to go and all the bodies we'll ever need at end. Crawford is a decent 3 tech, but he is looking superfluous, and with zero chance he makes the 2020 roster due to our pending capocalypse, I'd rather be a year early.

I would have brought in a kicker off the waiver wire to compete with Maher a few weeks ago, but that time has passed. Looks like Maher is our guy.

See what Oakland wants for Karl Joseph, seems like a reclamation project that we might make good on. I'd eat Iloka's contract to make it work, he hasn't really showed anything.

Go JAG shopping for a 3rd RB. Alfred Morris was a strange signing and Mike Weber doesn't have NFL level juice. While Zeke is holding out, that #3 RB is really a #2 RB so it's a little more critical than it sounds. If Pollard were to miss any time, we'd currently be rolling out some Alf Morris / Darius Jackson / Weber committee and immediately starting JAGing it up for 3 YPC.

And I'd love to have a blocking TE, with as much as we run and as much as we love to stay in base, but blocking TEs are low key a valuable position now. The contracts they were awarded this offseason and the draft picks that were spent on them were surprising. Everyone wants to run their own "McVay-ffense" and needs that burly Tyler Higbee TE to make the run and screen games work, but virtually no TEs come out of school knowing how to block any more. It's a seller's market for the few guys who still can do it.

Dalton Schultz is going to be buried on offense this season behind Jarwin and Witten, so I would lock him in the Frisco weight room and not let him out until Memorial Day. He's the best prospect for a blocking TE we have, but he is so freaking skinny and lacks power. He is still at least a season away from making it IMO, if he ever does. For 2019, we'll just have to deal with Jarwin and Witten getting folded up on the perimeter.

If I were GM this is what I’d do:
- Find a new kicker. Maher is a 75% guy which isn’t nearly good enough.
- Flip Su’a Filo for a draft pick, he’s too good to just let go.
- Look for a new QB for the practice squad. Mike White is terrible.
- Cut Tyrone Crawford. I want to see Taco share RDE with Quinn. 7m a seasoin was worth it when we needed Crawford to start, once Quinn is back from suspension, Crawford is a backup.
- Trade for a safety. I reckon Oakland might deal Joseph cheaply given they drafted Abrams. Both are box only safeties.
- Trade for a 3rd RB. TJ Yeldon would be a good get and upgrade on Weber/Jackson/Morris.
- Look for an OT for the practice squad, I would gladly put another one on the roster if they were decent but it’s hard/impossible to find one.
- Likewise with blocking TE, hard to find this time of year.

Its too late now. Most things needed to be done in the offseason.

I would cut Taco, replace Heath in the starting lineup and sign a veteran QB. Trade Zeke, but that will do us little good this season.

Extend Dak and Cooper
Sign Matt Bryant in place of Maher
Sign Case Keenum once cut in place of White and Rush
Sign King in place of Chris Jones
Look into trading XSF, Zeke, Taco, and La'el
After trading La'el sign Parnell or Shraeder
Cut Witten
Cut Olawale
Sign Kenneth Dixon once cut in place of Zeke
Trade for Josh Jones or Karl Jospeh
If Bucs will eat some of Brates' salary then trade for Brate, or go cheaper and target Jeremy Sprinkle

I'd look at the other 31 teams and see who has a tough kicker competition. Would be willing to send a late pick for a veteran (expensive) kicker, would go higher for a younger kicker.

In the meantime, sign the top two street free agent kickers and bring them in for competition for Maher. Cut the worse of the 3 after a few days, For those saying that's two wasted roster spots...I think most of us have identified some players by now who have zero shot at making the 53.

I'd definitely inquire about Karl Joseph. Other safeties I would inquire about are Armani Watts (Chiefs), TJ McDonald (Dolphins), and Tavarious Moore (49ers).

I'd also keep tabs on Eric Berry.

Just like Maher at kicker, I would want not want Heath to be comfortable.

Sorry for saying it again, but I'd sign Yamasaki from Japan to compete with Maher. I'd then try to find a better backup QB. The prospect of losing Dak to injury scares me. I'd then have to try and sort out finding another safety.

Agreed.

Why not try? If it pushes Maher to get his stuff together then great. If he wins the job, he's raw and still has a lot to learn. Will benefit from NFL coaching.

Yup, and, if he can't make the team yet, though I think he will, he is international, so the international exemption that we used for Odaba (the British player we had a few seasons ago) which allowed us to have an extra player on the PS because he's international. Thus, he gets coaching and is still competing with Maher.

Why the hell does everyone seem to want to cut Crawford?!
His salary is not an issue. If he’s better at DE or DT than some other guy, then he’s not stopping progress; he’s making us better. He can play all 4 positions on the DL. Just stop trying to cut him like that’s a smart move. If you really wanted to get rid of him (I don’t), you trade him....he’d be easy to trade.

No matter what my personal feeling is on Crawford, I am not stupid enough to believe that cutting him is feasible.

It is not happening. I don't see the reason to keep talking about it.

why would we want a box only safety? I rather have safties with a little range....in spread offenses of today, the box safties get exposed.

where would we get a kicker? I guess wait for cuts from other teams.....
