Pollard was actually not in the protection plan for this play

Just a thought but as Pollard is going thru the fake handoff motions I’m assuming he can’t yell Blitz because he’s wearing a mouthpiece, lots of crowd noise, etc. So instead they need some type of hand signal. Coaching up the rook breakdown.

Dak had his back to the blitz yet it appeared he had enough time to throw it away since he kept running back at an angle before they got him. The whole thing looked like a busted play. I’d like to hear Dak explain it. I bet he would say it’s on me, Pollard likely might say the same thing about himself. Witten clearly shucked the blitzer because he was expecting his typical 3 yard pass. Meh

Seems logical that pollard poluld be picking up the free rusher as that left witten open in the flat

I agree. Witten was the hot route on that play. He released and immediately turned for the ball, which Dak should have thrown. However, if Pollard and Collins had been able to slow the rushers, there might have been a bigger opportunity downfield.

No doubt, Pollard was the correct read. He should have continued his route and been wide open.

Well, that edge rusher is either Witten's or Pollard's responsibility to slow down. Witten and Pollard both let him blitz untouched on by. Inexcusable. One of them, if not both, should have clipped that edge rusher and slowed him down in order to give Dak an extra second or two to dump it off to either one of them.

almost, Collins was just as bad, and both looked surprised by an obvious run blitz

Pollard needs to “just do your job.”
The rush doesn’t matter. If he’s not in the protection plan and was supposed to be in the flat as a receiver, then that’s where he should have been, giving Dak the outlet to burn the blitz. If this was accurate information, staying in to help slow them down, even if done accurately, throws the play off. Rookies gots to learn.

You either block the blitz or throw past it.

If Pollard had just gone out as he was supposed to, Dak would have had an easy dump off, and Pollard gets a big run. Because Pollard didn't do as planned, he left Dak in the lurch.

And if you're going to the do the wrong thing, at least do it right. Dak got the worst of both worlds. No blocking and no outlet receiver.

Doesn't matter. It shows how terrible and overmatched he is on the pro level. Even if he's in the right position he's going to get run over.

Having said that, he reminds me of Adrian Peterson.

Just one is a 4th rounder and the other one was the 7th pick in the draft.

Coach Jerry said Pollard messed up when interviewed after the game.

Disclaimer: Jerry was likely loaded

I like Pollard but he has a Felix Jones vibe to him.

I like him paired with Zeke, not as THE guy

A rookie in particular should not be second guessing the play. It's enough for rookies just to get their planned responsibilities right. Leave going off script to the vets.

Poor judgment from a rookie. Not a shock.

I would like to see if he can block better when that is his assignment.

That play to witten made no sense. I could see if it was to a shifty player but if witten catches the ball he might fall backward for one yard but 9 times our of 10 he would get tackled at that spot. It looked like it might of been a 2 yard gain at most. Not really worth it if u ask me. Rip that play out the playbook please. its not like it was for pollard, coop, austin u know guys who can make someone miss.

The natural progression would be throw right first, since Dak is turned to the right for the fake hand off. It looks like he initially looks there quickly then turns back left.

With Witten running a little curl inside, the clear play is a swing pass to the right to Pollard who backfills the right side cleared out by Austin. A pass to Witten is more difficult with the defender and Pollard blocking Dak's lane to Witten.

I have a vague recollection of something similar happening last week. Some player doesn't do what he's supposed to, and Dak can't improvise fast enough.

No, it was training camp and Cobb's failure to recognize a blitz and backfill on the departing defender with a slant inside.

TP needs a different jersey#. 36 is yuckie for RB. He should try to purchase #26 from whomever owns it. Or #20
,,,,,, He's gonna' rock that #36 jersey number into that rarified air akin to the #33 levelled reverence of old,,,Brougham:thumbup:
