Why not Bring in Dan Bailey?

I don’t see how you could have any confidence in Maher with the game on the line. I think JG would have to seriously consider going for it on 4th down even if you are in range and down by 3 or less. If not fixed this could easily cost a game or two might be the difference in the East a Wild Card or sitting at home.

Dan Bailey, Matt Bryant, or Mike Nugent (unless somebody signed him by now). We need another kicker just to stir up some competition.

Having said that Maher's miss last night wasn't too worrisome. I heard it was very windy and long distance kicks were going to be tough. Even Greg "The Leg" Zuerlein missed one and he's usually money from 50-plus yards.
yeah on a island in open and small stadium, lot of wind.

I can kick. Not all that well, but I can move my leg in a kicking motion. I'll take a shot at it.

In all seriousness, I hope one of 2 tings happens:

1) Maher works things out and is reliable enough to not have to forego easy points

2) Someone on the OL goes full-out Larry Allen on him after a missed kick and tears his head completely off.

Nugent is 7 years younger than Bryant. Bryant's just a machine. He'd probably do well in the controlled environment of Jerryworld.
They won't bring in Bryant because they'd ALSO have to bring in someone to handle kickoffs.

Why Bryant can get the ball in the end zone now that starting point has been moved up. No need for another kicker if Bryant is signed.

B/c he's 44 years old and hasn't attempted a kickoff since 2008?

Maher is going to cost us a game and I feel uneasy even when he makes his kicks.

I would bring in Bailey or Bryant to challenge Maher for the job

Update: I just realized that bailey is still with the vikes

I still say bring in Bryant
HES UNDER CONTRACT thats why..

secondly not sure hes better , who truly is better thats available..are you SURE someone off the street or that is cut by someone sle is better than Maher..maybe 10 teams are set at FG and like their guy, thats 22 that are not, its more a shortage of the 90plus kicker, the 80 type is what most teams have aso what are we supposed to do?i mean bring I some Comp sure but in real games? who really left that can also kick long FGs and kickoffs? you cant carry an older kicker for under 40 kicks and another for the rest like we sued to...so?

They just said on Vikings/Seahawks broadcast that Bailey is in a kicking competition. So it is possible he could be cut if the other kicker is lights out.

If Bailey is in a kicking competition and could possibly be cut that tells you where his career has gone. The reason he’s in a kicking competition is because he’s been inconsistent. Fans need to forget about how automatic Bailey was, he’s not the same kicker.

Bailey was no better than Maher last season. In 28 attempts Bailey made 21. In 36 attempts Maher made 29 so they both missed 7 kicks. Both have been inconsistent but at least Maher has a bigger leg.

Bailey was so automatic it had a settling for a lot of field goals. Instead of going for TDs we were settling for kicks. Rather than taking a gamble on fourth and a foot, Garrett would send out Bailey because he had so much faith in him. Even on some third and longs it was like we were trying to position Bailey to make a kick. Our kicker situation is going to make us more aggressive when we get down close because that’s where Maher has been shaky.

Why would we want to bring in competition...some of you have mistaken JG run team. Cannot wait for this season to end so the JG experiment ends and Jason can head over McDonald's to be a crew leader...

You can get by without having a kicking competition. Kickers are so streaky it’s hard to gauge them in a competition. Kickers know if they’re inconsistent they could be cut at any moment. They have pressure on them constantly whether they’re in a competition or not. Maher knows if he’s not getting it done all the the Cowboys have to do is bring in another kicker and give them a chance. The odds are 50-50 Maher makes it through the season.

Mine as well bring in David Buehler and Jose Cortez while they're at it.

Yeah, you'd need a kickoff guy. Now if Redfern unseats Jones for the punter job, perhaps he could do it?

But I think it's all moot. They've shown no interest in Bryant.
