Then just allow teams to suit 53 every week. Who cares?

The guys you want to add to the roster are out there. All the time. Never good enough.

The playoff product will be weaker because guys' bodies will be exhausted and broken down. 21 games is WAY too many to win a Super Bowl.
I thought it was interesting what Moose said during broadcast.

He said he felt the worst of the year after training camp unless he had an injury. That he conditioned year round and usually felt great heading into Camp.

Tony Pollard can scoot.

The End.

There's the sum total meaningful review of Saturday's dressed-up practice session.

It's long been true, but never more so than now. The preseason is a complete, utter, absolute, unapologetic, pure money grab that offers no meaningful football purpose whatsoever. It's 3 hours to identify 1 or 2 guys that can play on the punt team. Nothing more. Both teams could have named 50 of their 53 opening day roster players in May.

The Rams left 20 of their 22 starters in California. Dallas was without Zeke, Cooper, Tyron, Lawrence, and Jones, and played the rest of the meaningful guys for a hiccup. Then it was a battle for last place in the Big Sky Conference.

The NFL has to stop this. Why show the world your underpants for just for a few dollars. The owners are pimping these preseason games out to the unwashed masses purely for profit, because the players get paid next to nothing for these games. Stop dressing these games up like Harry Hines' finest.

No, I don't want an 18-game schedule. But the NFL needs to stop insisting on 4 of these time wastes. The networks hate it. The players hate it. We hate it. The coaches mostly hate it.

It's just a good way to get players injured for the sake of blackmailing networks and season ticket holders into buying into this garbage.

One word.........BORING

I think there should be 1 game. Maybe 2 if you stretch it.

We watched Mike White throwing the ball to Reggie Davis, and Jordan Chunn running the football for most of that game.

Those are uniforms we recognize, but those aren't actual Dallas Cowboys.
2 games would be fine. I agree.

But obviously it’s a revenue generator as well. So is training camp even though entrance is free.

We just shouldn’t take preseason games that serious. It is what it is. Not sure why all the fuss.

I have nothing else to do on Sat night in August until College Football . Lol

I can summarize my long standing disdain for pretend football into four words that not only apply to this pathetic display but to most everything in life.

"Just for the money".

You want to go see your favorite band do a sound check instead of seeing them play? Want to see your favorite actors audition for the part or play it?

I don't even want 2 pretend games, they are totally unnecessary as college football has proven. Any coach that needs to see a player play in a pretend game should not be coaching. Pretend games do not decide who gets to make the final 53.

I remember that vividly. He said it took 4-5 games to get his legs back under him.

Teams learned, and the CBA reinforced it, so now the meaningful guys barely stretch during the preseason. Dallas probably PREFERS that Zeke not be there.

Of course, they've taken too much hitting out of just general practice. That's why tackling is so awful these days.

I wonder if the thing about adding a playoff game would be oversaturation. As of now, you get a doubleheader on both Saturday and Sunday in the opening round. Having to place 2 extra games per conference then makes it a tripleheader each day because they're not going to have the games compete with each other to maximize revenue. I love football but 3 games in a row would be a bit much for me even on a single day and I'd just pick the 1 or 2 I'm most interested in. The goal is the keep fans locked in but I think there can be a fatigue point, playoffs or not, if you're throwing in tripleheaders on consecutive days.

It’s a fair question to ask. You’re right about the fact they would
Definitely all be in different time slots.

As it stands now I usually watch every single playoff game. Would I watch 3 in a row on both Saturday and Sunday? Even though it’s January and the weather where I live, sucks outside during the playoffs. I probably still wouldn’t watch 3 straight.

It also raises the question of team worthiness. If you’re adding a 3rd wildcard team. It would probably lead to an 8-8 team or 9-7 making it most years. Do fans want teams with those records fairly regularly making the post season? I’m not sure. (Obviously we all do if it’s the cowboys lol).

So there are negatives too.

The over saturation question also comes into play with all the primetime games the nfl has now and thw idea of adding two more regular season games

Preseason games on the whole aren't chock a block full of action that will determine a lot of what goes on in the regular season.

But they are useful for some things. For instance if you say that you can evaluate players based on camp, etc. then based on that JoVea Johnson should be a lock for the final 53, was catching everything they threw at him in camp. But get him in a game, even against 2nd stringers, and he dropped passes right and left.

What would happen if you cut Devin Smith because Johnson was great in camp, the once the regular season started, had a case of the dropsies? That can lose you games.

No, the games aren't a huge source of player evaluations, but you can run a few new plays and make other teams have to consider them as possibilities in the regular season, e.g.

Not totally worthless, imho...

It was interesting that Pollard & his teammate RB Darrell Henderson were both in that game.

They were 2 of my favorite players in the 2019 draft.

Henderson was the starter in college. If he had not been on the team, Pollard likely would have been drafted earlier than the 4th round.

The Cowboys defense must have been good against the run in the game.
- Henderson was terrific in college.
- The Rams blocking scheme destroyed the Cowboys in the playoffs.
I'm somewhat concerned that the majority of their starters did not play and it was close when our first team was out there, although some of ours weren't either.
But it is preseason, so it's about assignments being made or missed. That's the benefit of playing the rookies in live action game environments vs scrimmage games. Not to mention who steps up when starters are injured.

Would fans rather not have preseason games to watch and simply wait until after Labor Day to see any Cowboys play?

I’m not really sure why fans get so fussy about it? Unless of course you’re a season ticket holder and forced to pay for them.
I do not watch any pretend games so I really don't have a problem with it except for some posters making judgments off that.

I used to be a season ticket holder and needed to justify the investment in 10 games vs 8. The first home games in September were awful in TS but those games in August were beyond that. Not only were they a waste of money and time, the conditions were miserable. The only redeeming value were the women glistening like Ashley Judd in "A Time to Kill". I got a damned headache trying to look and not get caught. I had eyes like a ventriloquist's dummy.

Preseason games also allow teams to get a good look at players that may be available with roster cut .

What they should do is cut two preseason games and increase the number of players allowed on a each team by 10 for only the first four regular season games The teams would have to pick their 10 best drafted/picked players to keep on the roster. Each of those players would have to play every game with the starters so they can get evaluated. It would let each team see how the players play against top notch talent in game situations. By the end of the 4th game, cut time....teams can do what they want but they would get a good look at drafted/undrafted players. It would also force teams to go lights out in the final 12 games... Just saying...

True, 1st year I havent watched preseason

That is fine. I watch it then again I have spent a lot of time going to training camp. I enjoy seeing guys working and competing at practice, in scrimmage and in pre season. It is part of getting ready for a 16 game season. Out of all the pre season games I will say this upcoming one will be the most interesting since so many teams use the 3rd pre season game as a dress rehearsal for the upcoming season. Last pre season game seldom do any of the starters see any action but for a few it is their last chance to make a roster be it on this team or another team as cut down starts taking place.

Maybe I'm just old school but I see nothing wrong with the current way. Biggest problem I have seen with the NFL over the years is making unneeded changes. Pre season and training camp is for the players and coaches not so much about fans.

Well said. The games are not about the fans. We’re just so desperate for football after 6 or 7 months we’re ready to watch. And then disappointed because they aren’t regular season. Enjoy them for what they are or dont watch. No big deal.

I used to attend Training Camp almost every year . I looked forward to Training Camp a few days. Bumping into who’s who at the Cowboys hotel and getting a close up look on the practice field were cherished.

The games weren’t much interest but the camaraderie surrounding camp was festive. I enjoyed attending Frisco last year for a couple days. Awesome facility there.

Here are the basics of the drives (series) with some starters playing:

Rams Drive 1:
- Rams gain 32 and punt.

Rams Drive 2a: (6 projected starters on defense for Cowboys)
  • incomplete
  • pass 5 yard gain
  • pass 26 yard gain
  • run -1 yards
  • run no-gain
  • pass -2 yards
  • punt (Rams gain 40 yards on turnover)
Ram Drive 2b: (4 projected starters on defense for Cowboys on TD play)
  • Rams go 37 for TD.
  • Culprit on TD appears to have been Safety Frazier.
  • Frazier might not even make the team.
  • It initially "appeared" that LVE was at fault, but on review it appears to be Frazier.

Cowboys Drive 1:
- 97 yard drive for TD.
- Without Martin, Tyron, Cooper or Zeke.

Cowboys Drive 2:
- QB Mike White

The ONLY way to properly evaluate a player is to use him with other guys that will actually play in games. I don't care if Darius Jackson can run behind third stringers and against third stringers. Success or failure there tells us nothing.

Can Cooper Rush play? Impossible to know unless you see him playing with the 1's against another teams 1s. Did Taco play well like Jerry said? Maybe, but against whom?

Because that doesn't happen, the real evaluation only happens in practice.

Do you seriously believe that?

And Cooper Rush isn't much better.

I detest our QBs.
LOL. Yeah, we know. We read about it every other day. You don't like the QB's. Got it.

Rush is still #2 and Dak #1. And, Rush hasn't looked as bad as he did last year. White looks the same. Horrible.
