I Was A Big Zeke Supporter, But This Flying Back To Cabo Is Last Straw. Trade Him

Who really thinks not signing Elliott enhances our chances of contending for a championship this year?

We must set aside our personal preferences and root for what provides the Cowboys the best opportunity to win.

I’d offer Elliott a big 2 year deal to finish out his Rookie contract.

That's certainly one way to look at it.

Zeke is a year younger, has far less of an injury history, and at least I believe is the more valuable running back. I dont personally disagree with him being worth more than Gurley. Even with the personal conduct and the maturity issues that factor in. Fans will be able to move on their their next pet cats as the years go on... Sure he has been a knucklehead at times. I guess we will wait and see how it all plays out. I dont have any ill feelings about him. Honestly, it doesnt matter what I think about him. But he does have an immense gift, and as an NFL running back his body will pay for it in the end while he becomes an afterthought by a lot of fans after he hangs them up.

The whole argument about "shelf life" for a guy like Zeke is absurd. This guy will make $12 million over the next two years, more money than he should ever need in his life. He has been offered a heck of a lot more than that. SO, the guy can pocket $48 million guaranteed, and probably a lot more depending on his durability, and collect millions more in endorsements. Yeah, I feel bad for him. And many forget, most of these guys have their university paid for through scholarships given their football talent, so in theory, they should be prepared to do real work after they retire. These guys get so much, and yet so many act like complete jerks.

I have defended his ability and his importance to the team , but I would never defend his behavior. After thinking about it, trading Zeke would totally stop any concerns about the salary cap for years to come because it would save 45 million in cap space a year. Let me explain. When Zeke is not on the team, Dak will be totally exposed and he will leave shorty after thus saving Zeke’s and Dak’s salary demands. If Zeke sits out one year, the team will lose a lot of games and it may put them into a draft position to get a very good QB prospect. I am willing to lose Zeke if it means Dak will leave as well.

Im not sure about Dak, but Id be willing to let him roll into this season and prove himself without Zeke. I cant believe his agent is willing to take that gamble.

The only reason this situation is so difficult is because of our expectations for the season. We looked to be on the verge of a legitimate run and instead we may be playing without our best player.

Trading him now would be a huge mistake. First, RBs, even Zeke, won’t bring much, and trading him while holding out brings even less because the other team sees you as desperate. Unless a team calls you and makes a ridiculous offer, you just wait....wait....wait.

Zeke’s agent thinks the Cowboys will panic and fold. They won’t. They know Zeke is key to the season, but the team salary structure and being competitive for years with this young team is more important than blowing it up for one season.

There's no doubt Zeke is a top notch talent and before Cooper got here, was the best offensive player on the team but he isn't doing himself any favors......I don't think the way he's conducting his business to get a new contract isn't the right way about going about it, He should be in camp working with his team mates and let his agent try to work out a long term deal either this year or next year, he still has two years left on his deal with zero leverage. I think he's getting bad advice with his recent off field issues, he should be in camp showing that he's a leader of the team and let the contract work out between the Cowboys and his agent....

I have defended Zeke on this board, argued he is the best RB back in the league, argued that he cant just be replaced by a rookie, and even agreed that he needed to be paid "Gurley money".

However, this latest stunt of going back to Cabo after coming back to Dallas for a single day, and claiming that he is disrespected by Jerry, is just enough. Its obvious that Zeke cares about nobody and nothing but $$$$$$$$$$$$.

Look, I have been one of Jerry's biggest critics on this board, but the man bent over backwards to help Zeke out. Went to war with the Commish, had to repay the league millions of dollars out of his own pocket to cover their legal bills, and probably affected the officiating we got on the field (9 games without a hold call ring a bell). And this is how Zeke repays Jerry for going to bat for him? Hold out, fly to Cabo, issue demands left and right, and then get butt hurt over a joke.

That's it fellas, I'm done with the POS...…..trade his arse to Buffalo or some other NFL wasteland.

Well Said ...It's time for Jerry to play hard ball with these guys...I know we have light years to go to ever even be mentioned in the same breath as the Patriots/ Bellichek, but do you think for a minute Bellichek would put up with this?

Zeke didn't make it public he was going to fly back to Dallas and stay. IIRC someone noticed him on a plane and made that public.

For all I know he just flew back and forth to either pick up something or stop in Dallas for a day or so for personal reasons.

I mean, he flew to Dallas when his teammates were going/in to Hawaii.
He’s so poor he can’t even fly 1st class.

You are still thinking about it like a normal person vs a pro athlete. It's not about feeling bad for him. Not absurd from the perception of him and that's what matters.

I'm just waiting this out, I think Jerry and Zeke will get a deal done and in the meantime I'm not going to fret over it. Both sides are looking after what they feel is in their best interest but I also think they will come to an agreement. As for Zeke going to Cabo I don't care, based on reports he has been putting in the work and getting himself in great shape. Meantime Pollard and other RB are getting the work load and can only benefit them and the team.

Zeke got a check for $16 million before he played a single down in the NFL.

That is more money than you, me, and everybody on this site combined will make in our entire lifetimes.

He has been compensated tremendously for his talents, he is just being greedy at this point IMO.
So? QB is a more important position. The best FB in the league also doesn't make much because they don't impact the game as much. If he wanted to make more money, he shouldn't have been a RB. It's not like his current contract isn't paying him millions and millions of dollars on top of endorsement deals
Ok. Sound logic there buddy. I'm assuming you have watched and seen what Zeke has brought to the team?

As I have been saying all along. Let him sit, fine him, let him rot this season. If they can still possibly trade him, do it. That is if they can find a team dumb enough to give up some 1st and 2nds for him.

In hindsight. Jerry Jones should've kept his mouth shut. Where was his baby sitter when he is on the booze? Not really a thing to say at the moment.

Nobody is going to give us anything for him. For a trade to happened, the other team would have to work out an agreement with Zeke that he would actually agree with. Even then we aren't getting much for him.

True, BUT they are paid how they are because they are a dime a dozen. Finding a franchise QB compared to a franchise RB is two entirely different things. Simply put, Zeke should've chose another position.
Dallas doesnt have the year they did Daks rookie year if Zeke is playing a different position. Dak may not even be starting QB. That's how much impact he made. People see a guy one preseason game score a good TD run against second stringers and jump to conclusions. I honestly just dont understand it. Some of this fanbase I cannot for the life of me understand.

I have no interest in Zeke and his me-first attitude. I hope he never plays for the Cowboys again. He revealed his true self when he quit on the field during the loss at Denver in 2017. He was useless in our playoff loss against the Rams. He has never-ending off the field issues. We aren’t going to win a Super Bowl counting on him.

I’m with you @Beast_from_East - this is ridiculous. Sometimes these players get with agents who manipulate them and I’ve gotta believe that’s the case here.

I don’t think there’s anyone who will trade for Zeke because no one wants to break the bank for a running back. They’re just not that important in today’s NFL. Most franchises can just draft a running back.

What Jerry needs to do here is play hardball, tell him they’ll talk this next offseason, and start fining him. Zeke has zero leverage.

Unfortunately I think Jerry is going to cave here. I really hope that I’m wrong.
