I read that , and 1 guy said it was basically a 2 year deal for 20 mil fully G, the rest is optional.
But he just scored points with the jones boys, so unless he hurts his knee again, he will get the other years too.

He's an absolute stud on and off the field. Scoring points with the Jones boys is not why he will be getting the other years too.

His high base salaries definitely make me think they restructure him in the upcoming years to drop his cap hits.

They seem to be doing that with the guys they expect to have their careers in Dallas, like Lee, Frederick and Martin. Gives the FO options if they wait to resign other stars. I fully expect a couple to be restructured because one of our Big 3 will be getting franchised next year IMO.

Yup. It's standard operating procedure by them. Players like it too as they get that money right then and there, compared to over the course of 16 games. And it does give them a smidge more security long term due to the dead cap charges that rise in the short term of the restructure.

Even Tyron Smith had his contract set up like that too.

Damn this deal was a steal. By the time he finally gets a 8 figure cap hit he won't even be a top 10 highest paid inside linebacker and won't even be a top 25 highest paid overall linebacker.

The new-money average of $12.75 million puts Smith at No. 5 among all inside linebackers, but the total guarantee of $35.4 million puts him at No. 2, only behind Jets linebacker C.J. Mosley.

Get your money Jaylon! GOOD FOR YOU!!

It is a good deal for both sides.

The Cowboys get him at a somewhat reasonable average cost per year.

Jaylon get significant guaranteed money.

- If he had a career ending injury in 2019 before the new contract, he would have gotten zero money after the 2019 season.
- They also could have tendered him as a restricted free agent in 2020 which is another year at risk of injury without any future guarantees.

Yes, but they could have had him for the next 2 years for a total of about 4M and no long term risk to the team.
- They gave him lifetime security in exchange for a reasonable average cost per year to the team.

It’s only optional because cutting him would provide cap savings. As long as he remains a good player, he will remain in Dallas. They can restructure to gain cap space if needed and those yearly cap hits will be a bargain in a few years for a pro bowl type MLB.

That seems to be the way the Cowboys want all there long term contracts. Pretty smart.

He's also opening a cryotherapy clinic at The Star, which he'll probably pay $100 a month rent, as well as another business in eyeglasses, I believe.

This is a Tom Brady type of deal.

Maybe they'll help Zeke start a bong company.

True but there was a subtle hidden agenda being executed with this deal getting done at this time. Jerry and Stephen wanted to show the triplets how a team player approaches getting a new deal. Agree or not, this puts pressure on them to give a little on their side to get a deal done. One or two of them may still hold fast in their demands but doing this deal now means there’s less to go around and that will be used in negotiations along with the threat that the last one in line could be left out completely.
