No, what people whined about with Jerry's contracts were that they were spent on the wrong guys. No one whined about martin's contract and Zeke is tops at his position as well. Pittsburgh could absorb the Bell loss because their offense is pass first and it didn't become that way once Bell left. It's been that way for them since 2014. LA has a great defense anchored by the best in the game so they didn't need to be an offensive juggernaut without Gurley but surely could have used him in the Super Bowl though. 3-3 in the 4th and he would have been the best offensive player on the field. Could have easily made a big difference. But yes, undervalue running backs why don't you. Romo knows the power of a good running back first hand and it's why we drafted Zeke at number 4 in the first place. But he's not going to be used up like a sucker and sent packing so he's striking while the iron is hot. I said it, then Emmitt Smith said it. All of it is chance and the team hasn't even suffered yet, but man are posters' emotions getting jabbed over this. It ain't just the salary cap either bud. Like I said, go look at any other sport without a salary cap when a player gets paid and see the reaction. What's the problem then?
I will under value RB’s, tell me me the last time the leagues leading rusher or highest paid RB won a Super Bowl?

Striking while the iron is hot? Lol, the iron is about as cold as it gets. 2 teams with two of the best RB’s in the league showed how easy it was to replace them, we have a rookie that has looked good so far and we hae a top O line which will be a huge asset for a lesser RB. The league has also become much more pass happy, he would be better off he were a receiver.

I don’t care about any other sport or what their players make, if we didn’t have a salary cap I wouldn’t care about Zeke asking for more, well I would a little because he still has two years left on his contract. Regardless, the money needs to be spent appropriately and tying a good portion of that up with a RB is a waste IMO. I’d rather spend that money on putting together an elite D and picking up a RB in the next draft which would be much easier than most other positions.

:lmao:
Man, I'd just googled & read the USATODAY "Less Pie Left" article, Football Dad closes out that piece with "and I got some backbone to keep it that way",,, Man, I'm easily reading between the lines that Jerry is in committed contract trench warfare, with helmet/flak jacket strapped & snapped secure,,, those new contract " offer's " that had previously been generously proffered early? Ain't gonna be getting all that much more generous (if at all:lmao:)

* Football Dad is fixing to break some young fellers from sucking eggs, while there on egg collecting detail:lmao:,,,I do LUV JERRY.
I’ve never been this far in Jerry’s corner...EVER. Most of the time I’m standing on the other side of the ring, ready to knock him out Zeke style. I hope he doesn’t bend an inch.......but I think he will.

Several subtle shots at Zeke (and maybe Dak) at the Jaylon PC. He kept effusively praising Jaylon for looking out for the "team" with this contract.

I do think that once Zeke’s agent talked about disrespect on behalf of Elliott, that Jerry got a deal done ASAP with J. Smith.

I love Zeke, but that dude better collar his agent!

The iron is hot because we lean on Zeke like no other team does. Who's the straw that stirs the drink on offense again? We had a great O-Line and Joseph Randle and Randle looked better than our 9 carry sample size of the rookie so far who also almost got our QB killed. And Dak's performance without Zeke and a defensive line with no one helping Lawrence bodes well for needing Zeke. Even Cooper is iffy with his foot. In a league where 1 game can make a difference, Elliott has a lot on his side to make the FO negotiate. And they are. So people can yap about him having time left on his contract but if the team is saying yes, we'll talk, then he is in the clear to do what he does. Not without risk but the team is allowing it. Fans needing to be kept comfortable about how another goes about their business is the major uproar here but in negotiation, all's fair until you come to an agreement and I think they will. Then there'll be fan whinage about that. Lol.

Elliot already has a caphit for 2020. The only thing added to his 2020 caphit would be the new prorated signing bonus.

Because you are angry at Elliott, most here are angry at him.

I can't be as I would be doing the same thing he's doing and that's hypocritical to be angry with him. Some feel he's doing something to them or the team but I do not see it that way. He's doing something for himself in the only way available to him.

I am also sorry to see so many duped by that transparent pc yesterday, all set up to put the black hat on Elliott. It's easy for me to roll with this because I accepted this was not a game or a sport but a business some time back and while that stole some of my passion for the sport, better to accept things as they really are.

How many were duped by the "woe is me, Jerry was being disrespectful" sob story Elliott and his agent tried to float a few days before that?

Very true. Zeke has been nothing but toxic off the field. Can't get him gone soon enough!

Guess you miss these days when Zeke was out.....

The numbers back it up too. He was literally the worst quarterback in the league (and one of the worst in recent memory) the instant Zeke was taken off the field. He became the only QB in at least 10 years to turn the ball over 8+ times and throw 0 TDs over a 3 game span!

Are you sure you're a Boys fan bud?

Not anyone I know, most realized exactly what that was, a layup to his agent. Booger counters with trying to black hat Elliott using Jaylon Smith.

The agents use everything at their disposal and this owner makes it easy, like he did for Romo's agent.

If the Colts will give a 1st for Zeke, I take it at this point. I'd hate to get any less, but it's starting to look like his days are numbered.

The Cowboys thought they could run Zeke into the ground on his first contract then let him walk and get a 3rd round compensatory. He and his agent called their bluff, and now they either have to pay him top RB money or trade him.

Sounds like this situation is teetering on the point of no return. If Zeke says something else or if JJ does/says something else I definitely think they’ll look at parting ways.

This is starting to remind me of Kawhi getting mad at the spurs and the things players/coaches said.

He could care less if he pissed him off. Booger made a bad joke, as most of his are, and the agent used it to his advantage. If Booger is pissed, he should be pissed at himself for his big mouth.

And all of this posturing, "I am just the guy to stand my ground" BS, will last only as long as the team isn't losing because of Elliott's absence. Let them start off like they did with Emmitt out and the pressure from the fans and media will increase and he doesn't have the balls to stand his ground. Let Lawrence hurl his helmet against the locker room wall and see how he holds his ground. He's a putz when it comes to the players.

31 teams have "no comment" when it comes to player contract negotiations and 1 shoots their mouths off but let's defend them.

But Coach, I too am disappointed by so many duped into thinking $13 million (or whatever) is a slap in the face. If Zeke wanted and felt he was entitled to more, why leave the country? Why not attend training camp like his teammates while these negotiations are underway?

I am also surprised by the number of people that don't seem too concerned about the salary cap. It destroyed the team of the 90's and sent many great players to other teams. I can't help but to be concerned we won't be able to keep this talented team together if we pay every single player, even Eze the top salary. The numbers just don't work. I also get the impression by at least some of the anti-owner mentality on this board that it's easy to make payroll, rent, etc. Again, the cap plays against this owner, even if he is worth billions. He took the risk to buy the team, he's supported his players over the years and I agree with him that comments made by some dumb-cluck agent are too much.

If I can offer any advice (yeah, fat chance) to Mr. Elliott, it will be to get back to Dallas and to the negotiation table. And, most of all, stop acting like an immature gangster. Enough is enough!

Did you know that less money was paid to running backs in the NFL in 2018 than in 2008 even though the salary cap has gone up by 50%?

I think the statement on that video might be a bit exaggerated.

There are multiple ways they could be looking at the contracts stats.

The biggest per year RB pay prior to 2010 was Reggie Bush at 8.75M per.

The top contract now is 14.54M per.
Signed...Per Year...Player

2018 .... 13.00 .... David Johnson
2017 .... 12.12 .... Le'Veon Bell
2015 .... 12.00 .... Marshawn Lynch
2012 .... 9.00 .... LeSean McCoy
2006 .... 8.75 .... Reggie Bush
2012 .... 8.70 .... Arian Foster

LOL, to what advantage? If the goal was to try to get the sympathy PR for Elliott's situation, he failed because it didn't move the needle much at all. All it did was piss off the guy you want to hand you the largest TB contract in NFL history.

And your last paragraph is hogwash. Other teams have certainly said more than no comment on player negotiations.

Well it will definitely depend on how the offense looks. Fortunately for the Cowboys they aren’t playing great defenses early. If they struggle to run the ball and score in the first 2 or 3 games JJ probably will cave. If the offense looks good I don’t expect to see Zeke until week 10 or 11.
