I Was A Big Zeke Supporter, But This Flying Back To Cabo Is Last Straw. Trade Him

Yes, even with Zeke, Cooper, and Dak last year we still had a mediocre offense. I understand Coop wasn’t there the first 6 games, we had a different OC and we didn’t have Fred but we still had a lot of good pieces and there and weren’t that great.

The O line is locked up for awhile. RB’s are expendable and there is a deep draft class next year. Pay Coop, not sure what to do about Dak, and trade Zeke.

Lock up Jaylon, get ready for LVE’s contract. Get another DE in FA next year or see how Quinn does and whats up with Gregory. Extend the guys in the secondary we think we need and replace Heath. I think our defense is younger and has much more potential to be elite than our offense. Typically, LB’ers and DE’s cost more than say...running backs. Better start saving now and cut bait with The Entitled One.

Edit: even though I said yes, I’m not 100% sold on this idea but I’m strongly leading towards it right now.
For most teams this might be a solid plan but we are a dysfunctionally ran franchise.

I’m not sold Jerry is prepared to risk exposing Dak.

Jerry is a follow the ball GM. He still thinks it was the Triplets that won those championships.

Actually, if I recall, Duane Thomas held out in like his second season in the league, with the Cowboys. Now in those days, teams didn't play. Tex traded him to the Pats or some such, and they were horrible terrible in those days.
And Thomas didn’t show up in New England. Rozelle voided the trade and Thomas came back to Dallas and help lead us to our 1st Super Bowl win and deserved MVP but they gave it to Roger instead because they were afraid Duane wouldn't talk to the media or go to the banquet. The Cowboys then traded him to the Chargers the following year.

He was a great RB. Was compared to Jim Brown by many critics. And until we drafted Dorsett in 1977 had a much less potent rushing offense.

THIS IS WHAT EMITT SMITH THINKS:

“I think the Cowboys should pay him,” Emmit Smith told Voice of the Fans’ Cameron Buford.

Smith added more context on Elliott via a transcription provided by sports and entertainment journalist, Landon Buford.

“I think if you look at the scheme of things where things are today, leverage is the most important thing that we all have,” said Smith.

“You lose leverage, you lose opportunity. The Cowboys have leverage, they are going to lessen your opportunity. So, you have to strike while the iron is hot. There are so many options that the Cowboys have that he doesn’t have. Everyone in the world wants to talk about what he should do because they are not in his position. As a former player when are in that position when you have leverage you need to take advantage of the opportunity. I think people are going to test how far he is willing to go like they did with Le’Veon Bell. How far are you willing to go.”
I agree. And I believe Elliott has the leverage now. He could lose it if we have success without him and Dak doesn’t look like a scrub.

But if we truly want to contend this year and win now, I truly believe we need Elliott. It’s up to our mgmt to figure out what they want.

The expectation was that the player drafted #4 would abide CBA's wage plan for 1st round draft picks i.e. 4 year contract with an option for a 5th.

If 1st rounders are going to go around the plan and demand contract renegotiation early, the signing bonuses are going to drastically fall and the value of 1st round pick is going to plummet.
Well, it’s not the norm . Only a couple players have done it. Like I think Aaron McDonald and what Levon Bell. I’m not sure without looking it up .

Elliott sees Dak and Cooper probably getting paid a year early and he thinks he’s just as important if not more important and wants to get paid 2 years early. He probably thinks we’re going to pound his butt in the ground and not want to pay him next year.

I think it’s a good move on his part. Not a popular move. Definitely not what we had planned and not helping us. But a good move on his part.

Honestly, I can’t blame him. That doesn’t make it right but I get it.

I love "Emmit speak" LOL I think Zeke would have had more leverage next year IMO.
Not if we’d of drafted his replacement. He has more leverage cause we didn’t see it coming. We weren’t prepared. Nobody predicted this.

Shoot, most of us thought he might be suspended again. Lol

The issue we have is a QB who needs so much Elite supporting cast to just produce average numbers. If Elliott produced Prescott type numbers this would be an easy decision.

Our real Cap problem IMO is Dak. Over paying a QB so dependent on an Elite supporting cast will ultimately limit the supporting cast he’s dependent on.

We wouldn’t need a league leading rusher or top 5 WR if we had closer to an Elite QB. I understand QB’s are difficult to find but why must not over pay Dak. That’s really the key in all of this and probably why we’re waiting.

I’d suggest paying Dak in the mid 20 million range. About where Foles and Flacco were paid this year. That’s really more the neighborhood of Daks talent level. Then you have more wiggle room that you need to surround him. If not we may end up hanging him out to dry for all to see what a mistake we made over paying him.

And if we reach the next level with Dak then you pay him after we hang a banner.

Whatever, Zeke. You're becoming more trouble than you're worth.

I've never said that before, but this latest stunt is pathetic. I hope Jerry let's you sit all year.

I have defended Zeke on this board, argued he is the best RB back in the league, argued that he cant just be replaced by a rookie, and even agreed that he needed to be paid "Gurley money".

However, this latest stunt of going back to Cabo after coming back to Dallas for a single day, and claiming that he is disrespected by Jerry, is just enough. Its obvious that Zeke cares about nobody and nothing but $$$$$$$$$$$$.

Look, I have been one of Jerry's biggest critics on this board, but the man bent over backwards to help Zeke out. Went to war with the Commish, had to repay the league millions of dollars out of his own pocket to cover their legal bills, and probably affected the officiating we got on the field (9 games without a hold call ring a bell). And this is how Zeke repays Jerry for going to bat for him? Hold out, fly to Cabo, issue demands left and right, and then get butt hurt over a joke.

That's it fellas, I'm done with the POS...…..trade his arse to Buffalo or some other NFL wasteland.

Nah.

We good with Zeke.

I like having an elite RB.

Problem for Jerry is..he has to pay him.

I'm just hoping that Pollard has a break out season, if Zeke chooses to set out, because I'm all about the Cowboys before any individual player.

........where he'll get the money he wants. He wins. Sets yet another precedent. Who suffers?

YOU and I. And the entire fanbase in the end. Do you think he cares if he leads the league in yards every season?

Apparently not.

Let him sit and fine him.

That's not what will happen at all. He'll go make team-crippling problems for someone else. We'll have the other team's draft picks. It's a win-win for us.

The best course is to trade him to the Skins.

Don't really understand this post, these ppl are upset because Zeke is demanding a bigger paycheck as one of the top 3 RB? I believe Dak is also asking to be paid as a top 5 QB without having ever performed at that level but little criticism coming from this fan base. Zeke needs to be paid because he's the best offensive player on this team and when healthy he can be as dominant as any RB in the league.

Freadbeard is the best offensive player followed by Martin, IMO.

I can’t think of any team that would have drafted a replacement for one of the top players in the league that is expected to play game.

If Zeke wasn't an idiot off the field, I think he'd already have his money. He might be the best at the position, but maybe also the most likely at that position to get suspended.
