Well....... This really sucks. I don't know if I could handle losing a child. I tell myself that I am strong and that I can overcome anything and I truly believe that most things, I can, but something like this, I am not sure.

Deepest condolences to the Laufenberg Family. Terrible, terrible loss.

Luke Laufenberg, Babe's son, passed away this morning. Many of you might know Luke played for me at Mesa Community College in 2016 and I got to know him and his dad really well the past few years. Luke had recovered and was set to play football at UTEP this season. I was able to go to a Cowboys game last season and give Babe Luke's jersey from his time here. We also had a family trip planned to see one of Luke's home games in El Paso this season. Luke was an amazing kid and he was courageous on and off the field.

Please keep Babe and his family in your thoughts. For you guys who go to practices, show him some love.

Sorry to hear this.
Just last year on one of the pregame preseason game shows, Babe was talking about how well he was doing.

Lost my wife to that monster and that was devastating but to lose a child and have to stand by and watch them fight is a pain that I do not know if I could have handled that.

I hope Babe and his family and Luke's friends and extended family can cope with this and try to make sense out of something that just doesn't make sense to me.

Laufenberg was declared cancer free on May 3, 2018. In January, UTEP head coach Dana Dimel offered a full scholarship and Laufenberg was expected to start at tight end for the Miners this fall.

But the cancer returned in April. On July 12, he was informed that his condition was terminal and that he had just a few weeks remaining.

Ugh. That's cruel.

It's a scary thing. I always thought to myself as long as you eat healthy, don't smoke nor drink alcohol heavily you should be good for the most part regarding cancer. That bubble popped some time ago.

Just 21 years old.

John, if that monster and the treatment against it didn't exist, Stephen King would have created it. It is a monster in every way possible and will hide and wait to reappear when people are least expecting it.

And for those of us that have lost loved ones to that monster, something like this just rips the scab off the wound and my heart is so heavy for his family and friends.

That it is . Both my grandpas had it. One survived and the other lost the battle.
It hits hard cause not only is the person affected with it suffering, but so is everyone else around them.

I'm sorry for you loss as well, CC.

A parent should never have to bury one of their children. The pain and grief have to be an enormous burden to bear. RIP and condolences to the Laufenberg family. Absolutely horrible news.
