If you’re already making him the 2nd highest, just pay the difference and make him the highest.

I don’t want to lose an elite talent over a few million.

If he remains in your future plans, you pay the man. If not, why offer up to the 2nd highest?

Zeke is lucky they are willing to do this at all.

I disagree with him being paid like that when they have him for 2 more seasons plus a franchise tag if they want it.

My only problem is, when somebody else gets their money (Gordon) is he happy being the 2nd highest paid? Or is this a revolving door

For comparison:

Bell got a 5 year, $52.5MM contract with only $27MM guaranteed.

Gurley got a 5 year, $57.5MM contract with potential guarantees of $45MM ($22MM was guaranteed at signing).

So there is a pretty wide gap here in terms of guaranteed money. Gurley's deal is an outlier.

If I were the Cowboys I would have let him walk. Your right. He is very lucky. Its not like the team needs him that much. I would have gone along with Pollard this season rather than pay big money to a trouble maker.

Just me, but I think they're saying there's a penalty for getting paid 2 years early. Remember Stephen said they WILL NOT be market setters. Making him the highest-paid player at his position with two years left on old deal IS setting the market.

If he signs a new deal he'll be a le to get some of the signing bonus this year and next. But the bulk of his new deal won't kick in until 2021.
