I've read they may leave Brown on the PUP to start the season. He is still only 23, I'd be fine with giving him a year on PUP that is essentially a Practice Squad year again.

They will be better to move him to IR. But in order to return, he will have to make the initial 53. But they can play some number games with that. Or they could move him to IR before game 1, then he has to be on it for the entire year. Which may not be a bad thing.
If he stays on PUP, then they have 8 weeks to make a decision. Activate him or release him. Maybe they can move him to IR at that point. I am not sure of the rules on that.

No matter what I think he still has some value right now, until they see if Wilson and / or Smith can do what Brown does in blocking and ST's. I noticed late in the game both Wilson and Smith were in on punt coverage units, probably as gunners with their speed. I know Smith did that some while at OSU.

I have it as Cooper, Gallup, Cobb, Austin, Wilson, Smith, and Brown. A deal gets done to initially cut Phillips before bringing him back the next day once Brown is moved to IR.

Austin is punt return with Wilson backup.
Devon Smith is a gunner with CJ Godwin

Very good and the most likely scenario.

Wilson did a handy job last night of returning punts. Very shifty and can put on the jets once he fakes you.

They both look like they belong on this team.

Cooper, Gallup, Cobb, Austin, Wilson, and Smith would be the WR group I would keep. However, the Cowboys love obsession with Noah Brown likely changes this.

Hopefully we keep both of them around.
Wasn't Smith a high draft pick too? He looks damn impressive. Reminds me of Laurent Robinson with a little bit of Keyshawn and Terry Glenn in him. Wilson more like a Patrick Crayton.

Terry Glenn for sure.

I don’t see what others see in Devon, looks like a decent camp body at best. He may develop into a fine receiver but in no way is he ready to make the final roster. Just my humble opinion of course......

Keep in mind that Devon Smith was a 2nd round pick. Played for Ohio State and was a total stud. The guy has speed to burn and runs great routes. Makes plays.

ONLY reason he was let go is because he had two ACL injuries that ruined his first 3 years in the NFL. Looks healthy now and back to where he was.

I would 100% keep the kid. Do you remember Jimmy Smith?

I agree. I don’t think they can cut either Wilson or Smith. Both have legit talent.

They aren’t like a PS hero like Lance Lenior or Danny Coal. They are real prospects who caught everything that was thrown to them. Both could easily be the 4th and 5th best WR on the team, if not 3rd.

Maybe keep Brown in place of a 4th TE or something. I don’t know, but IMO the team will want to keep both Wilson and Smith.

Keeping Brown is the Garrett way. Big, tall, strong receiver that can run block. Speed, route, running, and dynamic receivers dont fit his boring, plodding, scheme. They score too quickly.

Yeah, Smith was a second round pick. He’s a really talented guy, and by that I’m not just talking about his size and speed (although that is good), but he has natural receiving skills that a lot of fast guys don’t. Natural hands with the ability to find the ball, adjust, and put himself in good position to outfight the CB for the ball.

He’s a natural, skilled WR. If he stays healthy, he’s going to be good.

Maybe Dallas made a great decision to give him one last chance.

Think Jimmy Smith

Very much like the Glenn comparison.

If he can stay healthy, I see him being the 3rd WR next season for this team.

Cooper, Gallup, Smith would be one hell of a WR trio.

If people haven’t read Glenn’s story before getting to Ohio State, do yourself and read it now. Amazing what he went through growing up

I like Smith’s potential.

You have to remember injuries derailed his career; he never failed on the field.

He was a touted 2nd round pick and we may have lucked into a serious contributor ala Marc Colombo.

I would be royally pissed if they keep tortoise Noah Brown over Wilson and Smith.
I kinda saw this coming. They look at Noah so highly for his blocking. But the talent level was so high at WR before camp started I really didnt see how Noah could make the team. Now looking at what both Wilson and Smith has done in camp and in the preseason its hard imagining that Noah who has participated at all this preseason that he deserves a spot over Wilson and Smith.
