Setting The Table For Lincoln Riley

1) Lincoln Riley likely won’t consider leaving OU until he wins at least one NCAA Chip (he suggested as much in an interview in @2017).

2) Jerry probably wouldn’t agree to pay LR enough $$ to leave OU.

3) LR currently has virtual autonomy over the OU football program. He might not wanna work within Jerry’s current hands-on structure, where the team owner retains major input on coordinator/assistant-coach hires/fires.

Other than the above, I’m sure Riley’s anxious to take the job ASAP.;)

He's O dependent and is a coach in a conference with jokes for D's, he's another Kingsbury entering the NFL. He's the beneficiary of Stoop's recruiting and if he coached in the SEC or Big 10, he wouldn't even be on the NFL radar.

Any team that hires him as HC, better have him in a dual role and a strong DC. He will go the way of Chip Kelly and back to the college ranks within 3 years. Unless he works for the Cowboys and Booger will keep him because he does have fun offenses to watch and it is all about that entertainment factor.

Wrong on the recruiting front. Riley was actually one of Stoops best recruiters, and he's doing better than stoops.

Recruiting class ranking OU

2014 - #13 . (stoops)
2015 - #17 . (stoops)
2016 - #21 (stoops)
2017 - #8 (stoops)
2018- #10 (riley)
2019 - #4 . (riley)

Exactly. I don’t see it at all. If you need a college coach how about Dabo or Harbaugh or Shaw. The list goes on. Riley is not ready for prime time.
well said. Give me Dabo or Shaw anyday of the week and TWICE on SUNDAY! Dabo would be an awesome fit. Dak in HIS scheme would be epic. The guy exudes winning and leadership. Coaching swag...like Jimmy Johnson.

Every time I see something on TV about Lincoln Riley the reporter spouts out future coach of the Dallas Cowboys. It gets my conspiracy theory juices flowing...

Exhibit #1: Garrett is a lame duck coach..
Exhibit #2: Dak is a lame duck QB. Lincoln might not want him..
Exhibit #3: Zeke in Cabo eating Fish Tacos and chasing Senoritas.. Lincoln thinks Rb's are disposable
Exhibit #4: Young Defense. Richards got this taken care off
Exhibit #5: Plenty cap space... For Lincoln to shape the offense..

Love it .

One, he's recruited much better than Stoops, other than Stoops' first few years. If anything, Stoops was the beneficiary of Riley's recruiting since LR got the OC job. Two, he put up 48 and 34 points on SEC defenses in the playoff games, so it's not that he's going against bad defenses.

I'm just not sure Riley would want to leave yet -- and most of all, that Jerry would hire him. Riley is a smart, in-demand coach who would want plenty of say and wouldn't be the puppet Jerry is used to.
Yes sir, I believe this to be the case. While Bob Stoops became a SOONER legend, his most recent teams were not as talented as Lincoln Riley's, primarily because of recruiting. Many Oklahoma fans, and I'm one of them, thinks Riley might be be a better recruiter. Now, if Alex Grinch can remake that defense, the Sooners could make an Alabama type run for a while with Riley. Jerry may have to look elsewhere for his next coach.

- Pipe dreams if you think Riley will not be as lame a duck as Garrett with the Jones still running the show.
- even more smoke if you think this management is going to turn away from commitment to Dak for the sake of Riley.
- if Dak isn't Riley's type, then team will consider Riley not the cowboys type.
- we don't even know if Richard is going to even be here as a DC, with the likely HC offers he'll have coming his way next year
- if zeke is disposable for Riley, although reason not to hire him as HC.
- what would be the difference from Riley that's any different from the Chip Kelly's of the world ?

:hammer:

If the only thing that changed this off-season was signing Lincoln Riley it would be my favorite off-season in recent memory. Especially on the heels of our Superbowl.

Richard,Shaw and Dabo all do 1 thing very very well. THEY ARE EXCELLENT AT RECOGNIZING WHEN THEY NEED TO MAKE ADJUSTMENTS. That is what separates an average HC..from the elite ones...at any level.

buyer beware on Lincoln Riley. I rather have Bob Stoops.
Oh my gawd, no.

OU fan here. Stoops is wildly overrated. Riley is brighter than McVay. He runs all forms of offense within one offense. Genius.

If we have to lose him at OU, bring him here please.

He better be better if we fire JG and he comes in here and flops..it would mean a total rebuild. This team is in win now mode. That's why I am against the Riley thing...plus he doesn't have a large enough body of work as a HC in college. That's worrysome.

Honestly, I think Richard is going to get it. Garrett will transition to the front office.

Richard would be a helluva good HC. Garrett actually would be better served in the front office. I wouldn't hate that.

Richard or Dabo would elevate this team to greatness. I'm fine with either.

If Riley came to Dallas most of the current staff would be replaced. I don't know if Jerry wants to get to know a new group right now.

I looking more to Kellen Moore or Kris Richard as the new HC, although I feel KM could be retained as a OC.

I'm a defensive side of the ball guy, but if KM's offense lights it up...I'd rather keep the offensive coach.

If Garrett doesn't get it done he's likely gone and Lincoln Riley could become a real possibility. However, what the Cowboys have said about Dak and Zeke and what they offered them contract wise suggests they're in the plans regardless what happens to Garrett.

you guys wanting to get rid of Dak are going to be eating a lot of crow this year....
I never seen a group of folks want to get rid of a very good QB like they grow on trees or something. Do they forget the 15 season, or the QBs after Aikman..... I'm sorry but I'm staying with Dak before going back to those days.
