Another example of the Joneses speaking unnecessarily. Just because there's a microphone doesn't mean you have to spill your guts.

Reporter: "What's the status with Zeke?"

Jerry: "That's an internal matter. I'll make an announcement at the appropriate time."

Reporter: blah, blah, blah Zeke...

Jerry: "That's an internal matter. I'll make an announcement at the appropriate time."

Thing is though, he's intentionally spilling his guts. Jerry's posturing through the media. He's letting Zeke, Zeke's agent, and the world, know that the organization is standing firm.

I respect it. You nearly have to take it public when dealing with immature people, like Zeke, and unreasonable people, like Zeke's agent.

Spot on. The agent has his ear and it’s not looking good for him or the team

Zeke ran all over everyone to start the season last year and we were 3-5.

Not sure where you got that from...

Zeke ran for 680 yards on 149 carries in the first 8 games (4.5 ypc) when we went 3-5
He ran for 745 yards on 155 carries in the next 7 games (4.9 ypc) when we went 6-1

So if he ran over everyone while averaging 85 yards per game the half you talked about, what did he do while averaging 108 yards per game the 2nd half? I agree that our passing game improved, but so did our running game. There is a correlation, they were able to feed off each other.

FYI his receiving stats also were vastly higher the 2nd half...

29 receptions for 226 yards the first 8 games
48 receptions for 341 yards the next 7 games

That said I have no problem rolling with Pollard at this point.

We started winning because we threw the ball better.

680 rushing yards over an 8 game stretch is awesome lol.

Good.. Teams that pass the ball efficiently are what wins in the NFL. Running the ball efficiently doesn't really correlate with winning.

We trade for Amari, our passing gets better, and we start winning. Big shocker.
I keep hearing this. I wonder how that passing game would have gone without a running game to go with it?

This QB and head coach needs just about every element to be successful so who knows.

Yet we’re talking about giving Dak 30+ million a year.

Cowboys need a potent running game, potent passing game, potent defense, and potent special teams if they want to win a SB again; with current mediocre coaching and front office.
You got that right. We didn't have much of a running game when Romo was here ( at least until 2014). Even when we could run we went pass happy. End result 8-8.

That's 85 yards per game.

By comparison, Saquon Barkley averaged 82 yards per game for the season. Todd Gurley at 89 yards per over 14 games would be the only player in the league with a better YPG average than the 85 Zeke had over those first 8 games.

Here is an article that goes in depth a little..

The surprising truth about passing and rushing in the NFL

Before the 1991 Super Bowl, Bill Belichick told his Giants defense to let Buffalo running back Thurman Thomas rush for 100 yards.

As David Halberstam writes in Education of a Coach, it was a tough sell. The New York Giants played a physical defense that prided itself on not allowing 100 yard rushers.

No matter, the short, stout coach looked straight into the eyes of Lawrence Taylor and Pepper Johnson and said, “You guys have to believe me. If Thomas runs for a hundred yards, we win this game.”

This is not so subtle public PR stuff, sending the message that the team is willing to go into the season without Zeke on the field, they're not going to just make another higher offer just to get him on the field. Zeke doesn't have the leverage that a guy like Bell had, saying okay I'll sit out the whole season and walk next one. Zeke'd had to sit for 2 full years if he wanted to try to play that card, and the Cowboys could even still franchise him after that if they really wanted to force his hand or trade him.

and yet that's the one SB the Bills should have won. If not for a missed kick. I went out to the kitchen to get something to eat to celebrate the Giants demise and came back in the living room as the kick was missed. I lost my appetite. lol

Not sure how to read this.

Is Jerry saying they don't need Elliott early and just want him signed for the latter part of the year? Is he saying, hey, Zeke, I want you for the playoffs so if you hold out long enough, I'll buckle and give you what you want come October/Nov?

The last part makes me cringe, unless I am missing his point. You want to pay him a crap ton of money but you have to "manage" him, ie his usage?

ya'll do realize Zeke and JJ may already have a deal - and are just working the media until they make an announcement

they might be getting #21 jersey production up to max profits on the surge ... the Dallas Cowboys are a business
Zeke may have broke his hand on that fool in Vegas and can't play now, and just how healthy is Zeke after a 377 touch season?
or some team may have made both sides an offer too juicy to ignore, a Hershel Walker II deal would suite 99% of us just fine
there's probably people to silence ... Boys will be boys
heck, Nike may have just offered to sweeten the pot if Zeke stays here

we have about 10% info on what's really up ...

Yeah there is zero chance a deal has been worked out and the Cowboys and Zeke are waiting a few days just to "work the media".

The Cowboys would want Zeke in the building ASAP to start training with the team.

Yes. He has to show up by Week 10 to count as a season against his contract. But he can't accrue a season towards unrestricted FA status this year. He missed the Aug 6th date.

He apparently can do that next year in TC so that he would be eligible after his 5th year.

Yes he can accrue that needed 4th year to be an unrestricted FA if he shows up by Aug 6th next camp. He can't earn that 4th year accrual this year, however.
