I agree with Jerry, if we sign Zeke to a new deal, what if he holds out again?

OK find, but what's the excuse for Dak, Coop, and Jones NOT being signed either and they're in camp. Like I said before, yea, there's a better way Zeke could have handled this but Jerry and Stephen's hands are just as dirty IMO.
Dirty? What the heck does that mean? Zeke signed a high payed contract out of the gate that comes with the ability to have a fifth year option and two franchise tags. That is pretty dog gone good if you asked me. Most players would relish in that deal. Zeke has actually performed to the expectations of the contract which is surprising, most players don't. If anything is dirty, it is the way Zeke has conducted himself since he has become a professional. He has been a "black cloud of a distraction" that has hung over the entire team. He gets suspended, delays the suspension which causes havoc from week to week, has had more controversy at every turn thus far.

The ownership and the players have stood behind him. What makes you think that Zeke will change his behavior with more money? He won't, I actually think it will get worse. In two years look for another holdout. If Dallas wins a Superbowl, look for a holdout. The bottom line is that if Dallas caves into this childish behavior then the behavior will be replicated by Zeke and his teammates. Zeke does not have a leg to stand on with this holdout, he needs another accrued season.

Jerry and Stephen should stand tall with this dispute.

There is no reason that player should be signed before their contract is over.

There will be a period of time in 2020 before they become free agents for the Cowboys to negotiate new contracts.

The idea of a team giving a player a new contract early, it that the team takes the risk of the guaranteed money in exchange for a better cost per season on the contract relative to the cost per season if they waited.

jerry is definitely not my hero.
he has been far too weak in the negotiations.
i would never have made that stupid top-2 offer.
zeke is taking advantage of an old man's kindness.
that is a bad thing for the team's long term financial planning.

sounds like you finally learned zeke has no leverage.

Wait, now he's an old man? The goal posts are completely gone. Jerry in earlier posts was the authority, a billionaire, powerful owner, a savvy negotiator, etc. Now he's been relegated to an old man being taken advantage of by big bad Zeke.

he is a billionaire that has all the leverage
but he needs to use his leverage even though he is also an old man with a soft spot for players.

i hope he uses all his leverage and do what is good for the team.

let it out...
good, you are finally learning zeke has no leverage, young grasshopper.
acceptance is 90% of the game.

It seems as if you've lost all leverage in the argument, so now you've become passive aggressive.

What is best for the team, or the fans?

Jerry is old enough to be my father (I'm 54), so yeah, he's an old man.

2-3 years from now Zeke might be done anyways, I’d hope we did a deal in which we could part ways in that amount of time...

He couldn't care less what you and others think about him. Fans being bent out of shape, are the same individuals that would urinate on themselves for an autograph or selfie.

Speak for yourself: Cut him, I could care less.
There's so much more to life than to be worrying about some greedy NFL player.

True, but you just have your opinion on the greedy NFL player. I sense some care in your statement.

What does his age matter in the negotiations?

It doesn't matter. You seemed to get offended that someone called Jerry an old man. He will be 77 in October - thats old. Hell, I'm old and I don't care who wants to point it out to me.

Lets say we sign Zeke to a new 5 year contract...…...2 or 3 years from now, Barkley gets a new market setting contract for a RB, but Zeke still leads the league in rushing every season.

Is Zeke going to say, "that's not fair, I had more yards rushing than Barkley so I need to make more than him" so Zeke holds out again before his contract is up demanding "renegotiation".

Whats to keep Zeke from doing this?

Serious Question.

Whats to keep Jerry from cutting any of them mid contract like he did Dez and Ware?

u root for the player
i root for the team
that is the difference
u should have finally learned that the team has all the leverage with this situation
but jerry may still be too generous to crush zeke, unfortunately for the team

Absolutely. And most of us want to keep Zeke.

However, now flip that around. The more we pay Zeke, the less the chances of fielding a super bowl team. Since a cap strapping contract definitely can keep you from a super bowl, the Cowboys are trying desperately to both make Zeke very rich and field a contender.

What is so wrong about making Zeke a very rich man and still contending?
He is the engine of the offense. He is really what makes us a contender, essentially.

I just don't want to be down 0-2 at the beginning of the season saying "why didn't we pay Zeke that extra 1.4 million from 13.2 to 14.6 to make him the highest paid. " I just saw ESPNs adam schefter talk about both sides working out a deal this weekend. Hopefully it gets done

Anyone rooting for the team would want Elliott on the field. The rest is agenda driven.

He’s about 75% of our offense. No worries.

And even if we don’t start slow without him once we begin playing tougher teams it will cost us. A loss or two without him might be the difference fr in whether we’d make the playoffs and or have a bye.
